Quasi-quadratic modules in valuation ring and valued field

This is a revised version of the previous version with a new appendix consisting of characteristic two case. We define quasi-quadratic modules in a commutative ring generalizing the notion of quadratic modules. The main theorem is a structure theorem of quasi-quadratic modules in a subring $A$ of a $2$-henselian valued field $(K,{\bf val})$ whose residue class field $F$ of characteristic $\neq 2$. We further assume that the valuation ring $B$ is contained in $A$. Set $H={\bf val}(A^\times)$ and $G_{\geq e}=\{g \in G\;|\; g \geq e\}$. The notation $\mathfrak X_R$ denotes the set of all the quasi-quadratic modules in a commutative ring $R$. Our structure theorem asserts that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between $\mathfrak X_A$ and a subset $\mathcal T_F^{ H \cup G_{\geq e}}$ of $\prod_{g \in H \cup G_{\geq e}}\mathfrak X_F$. We explicitly construct the map $Θ: \mathfrak X_A \rightarrow \mathcal T_F^{ H \cup G_{\geq e}}$ and its inverse. We also give explicit expressions of $Θ(\mathcal M \cap \mathcal N)$ and $Θ(\mathcal M+\mathcal N)$ for $\mathcal M, \mathcal N \in \mathfrak X_A$. In addition, we briefly investigate the case in which the field $F$ is of characteristic two in the appendix as well.

Definable quotients in locally o-minimal structures

Let $\mathcal F=(F, +. \cdot, <, 0, 1, \dots)$ be a definably complete locally o-minimal expansion of an ordered field. We demonstrate the existence of definable quotients of definable sets by definable equivalence relations when several technical conditions are satisfied. These conditions are satisfied when $X$ is a locally closed definable subset of $F^n$ and there is a definable proper action of a definable group $G$ on $X$.

Simple product and locally o-minimal theories

There exist NIP and non-NTP$_2$ theories satisfying all the following conditions: It is not o-minimal; All models are strongly locally o-minimal; It has a model which is an expansion of the linearly ordered abelian group over the reals $(\mathbb R\;;\;0,+,<)$. We construct these examples using the notion of simple product.

Tame extension of almost o-minimal structure

We consider an almost o-minimal expansion of an ordered group $\mathcal M=(M,<,+,0,\ldots)$ and its tame extension $\mathcal N=(N,<,+,0,\ldots)$. We demonstrate that the subset $\{x \in M^n\;|\; \mathcal N \models Φ(x,a)\}$ of $M^n$ defined by a formula $Φ(x,y)$ with $\mathcal M$-bounded parameters $a$ in $\mathcal N$ is $\mathcal M$-definable. We also introduce its corollaries.

Pregeometry over locally o-minimal structure and dimension

We define a discrete closure operation for definably complete locally o-minimal structures $\mathcal M$. The pair of the underlying set of $\mathcal M$ and the discrete closure operation forms a pregeometry. We define the rank of a definable set over a set of parameters using this fact. A definable set $X$ is of dimension equal to the rank of $X$ over the set of parameters of a formula defining the set $X$. The structure $\mathcal M$ is simultaneously a first-order topological structure. The dimension rank of a set definable in the first-order topological structure $\mathcal M$ also coincides with its dimension.

Notes on definably complete locally o-minimal expansions of ordered groups

We study definably complete locally o-minimal expansions of ordered groups in this paper. A definable continuous function defined on a closed, bounded and definable set behave like a continuous function on a compact set. We demonstrate uniform continuity of a definable continuous function on a closed, bounded and definable set and Arzela-Ascoli-type theorem. We propose a notion of special submanifolds with tubular neighborhoods and show that any definable set is decomposed into finitely many special submanifolds with tubular neighborhoods.

Locally o-minimal open core

We demonstrate that the open core of a definably complete expansion of a densely linearly ordered abelian group is locally o-minimal if and only if any definable closed subset of $R$ is either discrete or contains a nonempty open interval. Here, the notation $R$ denotes the universe of the original structure.

Tameness of definably complete locally o-minimal structures and definable bounded multiplication

We first show that the projection image of a discrete definable set is again discrete for an arbitrary definably complete locally o-minimal structure. This fact together with the results in a previous paper implies tame dimension theory and decomposition theorem into good-shaped definable subsets called quasi-special submanifolds. Using this fact, in the latter part of this paper, we investigate definably complete locally o-minimal expansions of ordered groups when the restriction of multiplication to an arbitrary bounded open box is definable. Similarly to o-minimal expansions of ordered fields, Łojasiewicz's inequality, Tietze extension theorem and affiness of psudo-definable spaces hold true for such structures under the extra assumption that the domains of definition and the psudo-definable spaces are definably compact. Here, a pseudo-definable space is a topological spaces having finite definable atlases. We also demonstrate Michael's selection theorem for definable set-valued functions with definably compact domains of definition.

Locally o-minimal structures with tame topological properties

We consider locally o-minimal structures possessing tame topological properties shared by models of DCTC and uniformly locally o-minimal expansions of the second kind of densely linearly ordered abelian groups. We derive basic properties of dimension of a set definable in the structures including the addition property, which is the dimension equality for definable maps whose fibers are equi-dimensional. A decomposition theorem into quasi-special submanifolds is also demonstrated.

Almost o-minimal structures and $\mathfrak X$-structures

We propose new structures called almost o-minimal structures and $\mathfrak X$-structures. The former is a first-order expansion of a dense linear order without endpoints such that the intersection of a definable set with a bounded open interval is a finite union of points and open intervals. The latter is a variant of van den Dries and Miller's analytic geometric categories and Shiota's $\mathfrak X$-sets and $\mathfrak Y$-sets. In them, the family of definable sets are closed only under proper projections unlike first-order structures. We demonstrate that an $\mathfrak X$-expansion of an ordered divisible abelian group always contains an o-minimal expansion of an ordered group such that all bounded $\mathfrak X$-definable sets are definable in the structure. Another contribution of this paper is a uniform local definable cell decomposition theorem for almost o-minimal expansions of ordered groups $\mathcal M=(M,<,0,+,\ldots)$. Let $\{A_λ\}_{λ\inΛ}$ be a finite family of definable subsets of $M^{m+n}$. Take an arbitrary positive element $R \in M$ and set $B=]-R,R[^n$. Then, there exists a finite partition into definable sets \begin{equation*} M^m \times B = X_1 \cup \ldots \cup X_k \end{equation*} such that $B=(X_1)_b \cup \ldots \cup (X_k)_b$ is a definable cell decomposition of $B$ for any $b \in M^m$ and either $X_i \cap A_λ= \emptyset$ or $X_i \subseteq A_λ$ for any $1 \leq i \leq k$ and $λ\in Λ$. Here, the notation $S_b$ denotes the fiber of a definable subset $S$ of $M^{m+n}$ at $b \in M^m$. We introduce the notion of multi-cells and demonstrate that any definable set is a finite union of multi-cells in the course of the proof of the above theorem.

Functions definable in definably complete uniformly locally o-minimal structure of the second kind

We investigate continuous functions definable in a definably complete uniformly locally o-minimal expansion of the second kind of a densely linearly ordered abelian group (DCULOAS structure). We prove a variant of the Arzela-Ascoli theorem for uniformly continuous definable functions and the following assertion: Consider the parameterized function $f:C \times P \rightarrow M$ which is equi-continuous with respect to $P$. The projection image of the set at which $f$ is discontinuous to the parameter space $P$ is of dimension smaller than $\dim P$ when $C$ is closed and bounded. In addition, we demonstrate that an archimedean DCULOAS structure which enjoys definable Tietze extension property is o-minimal. In the appendix, we show that an o-minimal expansion of an ordered group is not semi-bounded if and only if it enjoys definable Tietze extension property.

Definable Tietze extension property in o-minimal expansion of ordered group

The following two assertions are equivalent for an o-minimal expansion of an ordered group $\mathcal M=(M,<,+,0,\ldots)$. There exists a definable bijection between a bounded interval and an unbounded interval. Any definable continuous function $f:A \rightarrow M$ defined on a definable closed subset of $M^n$ has a definable continuous extension $F:M^n \rightarrow M$.

Whitehead group of the ring of smooth functions definable in an o-minimal structure

The Whitney group $K_1(A)$ is isomorphic to $A^\times \times \operatorname{SK}_1(A)$ for some subgroup $\operatorname{SK}_1(A)$, where $A$ is a commutative ring and $A^\times$ denotes the set of units in $A$. Consider an o-minimal expansion of a real closed field $\mathcal R=(R,0,1,+,\cdot,\ldots)$. Let $M$ be an affine definable $C^r$ manifold, where $r$ is a nonnegative integer. We demonstrate its homotopy theorem and that the group $\operatorname{SK}_1(C_{\text{df}}^r)$ is isomorphic to $\operatorname{SK}_1(C_{\text{df}}^0(M))$, where $C_{\text{df}}^r(M)$ denotes the ring of definable $C^r$ functions on $M$.

Definable $C^r$ vector bundles and bilinear spaces in an o-minimal structure and their homotopy theorems

Consider an o-minimal structure on the real field. Let $M$ be a definable $C^r$ manifold, where $r$ is a nonnegative integer. We first demonstrate an equivalence of the category of definable $C^r$ vector bundles over $M$ with the category of finitely generated projective modules over the ring $C_{\text{df}}^r(M)$. Here, the notation $C_{\text{df}}^r(M)$ denotes the ring of definable $C^r$ functions on $M$. We also show an equivalence of the category of definable $C^r$ bilinear spaces over $M$ with the category of bilinear spaces over the ring $C_{\text{df}}^r(M)$. The main theorems of this paper are homotopy theorems for definable $C^r$ vector bundles and definable $C^r$ bilinear spaces over $M$. As an application, we show that the Grothendieck rings $K_0(C_{\text{df}}^r(M))$, $K_0(C_{\text{df}}^0(M))$ and the Witt ring $W(C_{\text{df}}^r(M))$ are all isomorphic.

Closure and Connected Component of a Planar Global Semianalytic Set Defined by Analytic Functions Definable in O-minimal Structure

We consider a global semianalytic set defined by real analytic functions definable in an o-minimal structure. When the o-minimal structure is polynomially bounded, we show that the closure of this set is a global semianalytic set defined by definable real analytic functions. We also demonstrate that a connected component of a planar global semianalytic set defined by real analytic functions definable in a substructure of the restricted analytic field is a global semianalytic set defined by definable real analytic functions.

Dimension inequality for a definably complete uniformly locally o-minimal structure of the second kind

Consider a definably complete uniformly locally o-minimal expansion of the second kind of a densely linearly ordered abelian group. Let $f:X \rightarrow R^n$ be a definable map, where $X$ is a definable set and $R$ is the universe of the structure. We demonstrate the inequality $\dim(f(X)) \leq \dim(X)$ in this paper. As a corollary, we get that the set of the points at which $f$ is discontinuous is of dimension smaller than $\dim(X)$. We also show that the structure is defiably Baire in the course of the proof of the inequality.
