Parity violation effects in helical osmocene: theoretical analysis and experimental prospects

We present a computational investigation of the parity-violating (PV) contributions to the vibrational transitions and nuclear magnetic resonance shieldings of helical osmocene. A number of promising transitions within the spectral window of currently available sub-Hz metrology-grade lasers are identified, exhibiting high intensities and parity violation shifts of up to 7 Hz. We discuss the prospects for the synthesis of this compound and for subsequent ultra-precise mid-IR spectroscopy towards the first detection of parity violation in a chiral molecule.

Electron chirality and hydrodynamic helicity: Analysis in the atomic limit

Electron chirality has been proposed as a microscopic quantity that characterizes electronic handedness, yet its underlying control parameter has not been clearly identified. Furthermore, its applicability is limited to systems with spin-orbit coupling, which motivates the need for alternative measures of chirality. In this work, we explore two complementary measures of chirality: electron chirality and hydrodynamic helicity. By analyzing a minimal atomic model under chiral crystal fields, we clarify how the interplay among crystal fields, spin-orbit coupling, and electron correlation gives rise to non-zero values of chirality measures. Although electron chirality increases with both spin-orbit coupling and chiral crystal field strength, the dependence on these two factors is highly non-trivial. Particularly, when the chiral crystal field is varied continuously and the energy levels approach quasidegenerate points, the electron chirality is insensitive to spin-orbit coupling, resulting in a remarkable enhancement of chirality. In contrast, the hydrodynamic helicity, defined as a two-body pseudoscalar quantity, remains non-zero even without spin-orbit coupling, originating from electron-electron interactions. Perturbative analysis reveals distinct symmetry selection rules governing the two quantities. Our results provide fundamental insight into the origin of chiralities in electronic systems.

Regional chemical potential analysis for material surfaces

We propose a local regional chemical potential (RCP) analysis method based on an energy window scheme to quantitatively estimate the selectivity of atomic and molecular adsorption on surfaces, as well as the strength of chemical bonding forces between a probe tip and a surface in atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements. In particular, focusing on the local picture of covalent bonding, we use a simple H$_2$ molecular model to demonstrate a clear relationship between chemical bonding forces and the local RCP. Moreover, density functional theory calculations on molecular systems and diamond C(001) surfaces reveal that the local RCP at the surfaces successfully visualizes electron-donating regions such as dangling bonds and double bonds. These results suggest that the local RCP can serve as an effective measure to analyze high-resolution non-contact or near-contact AFM images enhanced by chemical bonding forces.

Enhancement of the molecular electron chirality by electronic excitation

Previously, it was predicted that the parity-violating energy difference (PVED) between enantiomers and the molecular electron chirality (MEC), which is the integrated value of the electron chirality density over the entire molecule are enhanced for ionization or electronic excitation. Following the confirmation of the enhancement of the PVED by electronic excitation in our previous papers, the present work confirms that electronic excitation enhances the MEC for H$_2$Te$_2$ and H$_2$Se$_2$. The PVED in the first excited state is explained by the contribution from the highest occupied molecular orbital if the PVED contribution from the highest occupied molecular orbital in the ground state dominates over any other contributions. In this paper, it is checked whether this explanation can also be applicable to the MEC. It is also reported that the MEC is not the simple sum of contributions from each atom and the mixing by the superposition between atomic orbitals of different atoms is important.

Enhancement of parity-violating energy difference of CHFClBr, CHFClI, and CHFBrI by breaking the cancellation among valence orbital contributions

The enhancement of the parity-violating energy difference (PVED) by electronic excitation is studied for H$_2X_2$ ($X =$ O, S, Se, Te), CHFClBr, CHFClI, and CHFBrI. To clarify the enhancement mechanism, the dihedral angle dependence of the PVED of H$_2X_2$ in excited states is studied. If the contribution from the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) to the PVED in the ground state is larger than the sum of those from all occupied orbitals, the PVED in the first excited state has a much larger value compared to the ground state due to cancellation breaking among valence orbital contributions. This enhancement is named cancellation breaking enhancement. The PVED enhancement is also studied for CHFClBr, CHFClI, and CHFBrI in excited states, and the cancellation breaking enhancement is confirmed. When the PVED contribution from the HOMO is larger than any other contribution, the cancellation breaking enhancement hypothesis provides the estimate of PVED in the first excited state from the HOMO contribution.

Enhancement of parity-violating energy difference of H$_2 $X$_2$ molecules by electronic excitation

The parity-violating energy difference (PVED) between two enantiomers of a chiral molecule is caused by the weak interaction. Because of the smallness of the PVED, nonzero PVED is yet to be discovered in experimental searches. To detect the PVED, the search for molecules with large PVED values is important. Previously, one of the authors proposed that the PVED may be significantly enhanced in ionized or excited states. The significant enhancement of the PVED in some electronic excited states is proven in this study using H$_2$X$_2$ (X=O, S, Se, Te) molecules as examples. The maximum enhancement was an about 360-fold increase for H$_2$Se$_2$. For the PVED calculation, we employ the finite-field perturbation theory (FFPT) within the equation-of-motion coupled-cluster theory based on the exact two-component molecular-mean field Hamiltonian. The relation between the enhancement of the PVED and the contribution to the PVED from the highest occupied molecular orbital is also examined. The effects of computational elements, such as parameters related to the electron correlation and FFPT on PVED values in excited states of H$_2$X$_2$ molecules are studied.

Electron Chirality in Amino Acid Molecules

We evaluated the total electron chirality in alanine, serine, and valine, which are molecules that have chiral structures. Previously, it has been considered that the total electron chirality of molecules composed of only light elements cannot be computed within usual computational conditions of relativistic four-component wave functions. In this work, it is shown that the total electron chirality can be calculated if some diffuse functions are added to Gaussian basis sets. This is demonstrated for the H$_2$O$_2$ molecule. By adding diffuse Gaussian functions to basis sets, the total electron chirality of L-alanine, L-serine, and L-valine are evaluated. It is also shown that the total electron chirality is derived by the cancellation between large contributions from each orbital, and the total electron chirality in excited and ionized states is expected to be much larger than that of the ground state.

Comprehensive Analysis on the Light Higgs Boson Scenario

Comprehensive analysis on the light Higgs scenario of the minimal supersymmetric standard model is performed in the framework of the non-universal Higgs mass model (NUHM). The NUHM is known to be the simplest framework realizing the light Higgs scenario with the unifications of gaugino and sfermion masses at the scale of grand unified theory being consistent. All important constraints from collider experiments, flavor-changing processes, and cosmological observations are considered in order to clarify the allowed region of the model parameter space, where the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method is used to obtain the region. We show that the region is excluded by current LHC results for the SUSY particle searches. We discuss possible extensions to save the LHS. Even with such extensions, the measurement of B_s to mu^+ mu^- would enable us to test the LHS in the near future.

Fate of the False Vacuum Revisited

We find the novel effect on the decay of a false vacuum in view of quantum field theory, which is induced by a field coupling to the scalar field related to a first-order phase transition. This effect of the environment can never be included in the traditional method using the effective potential, and, in fact, acts as dissipative and fluctuation effects on tunneling phenomena. We show that the decay of the false vacuum is drastically either enhanced or suppressed. It is also clarified what kind of interaction enhance or suppress the tunneling probability.

CDMS II result and Light Higgs Boson Scenario of the MSSM

The CDMS Collaboration has reported two candidate events for dark matter. If the events are due to the elastic scattering of dark matter, the dark matter would be a WIMP dark matter with its mass of the order of 10-100GeV and its scattering cross section with a nucleon is about 10^-43cm^2. We show that such a dark matter is properly realized as a neutralino dark matter in the light higgs boson scenario of the MSSM. The lightest higgs boson mass can be lighter than 114.4GeV in the scenario because of a suppressed interaction between higgs boson and Z bosons. As a result, a large scattering cross section between the dark matter and ordinary matter is obtained.

Productions of second Kaluza-Klein gauge bosons in the minimal universal extra dimension model at LHC

We calculate the production rates of the second Kaluza-Klein (KK) photon $γ^{(2)}$ and Z boson $Z^{(2)}$ at the LHC including all significant processes in the minimal Universal Extra Dimension (MUED) model. For discrimination of the MUED model from other TeV scale models at the LHC, $γ^{(2)}$ and $Z^{(2)}$ play a crucial role. In order to discuss the discrimination and calculate their production rates, we derive KK number violating operators including the contribution of the top Yukawa coupling. Using these operators, we accurately calculate branching ratios of second KK particles. In addition we find that these KK number violating operators provide new processes for $γ^{(2)}$ and $Z^{(2)}$ productions, such as cascade decay from second KK quarks produced through these operators. They have large contributions to their total production rates. In particular, these production processes give the dominant contribution for $γ^{(2)}$ production for $1/R \gtrsim 800$ GeV. As a result, with an integrated luminosity of 100 fb$^{-1}$, the number of produced $γ^{(2)}$ and $Z^{(2)}$ are estimated as 10$^6$ - 10$^2$ for the compactification scale between 400 GeV and 2000 GeV.

Production Rate of Second KK Gauge Bosons in UED Models at LHC

We calculate the production rates of the second Kaluza-Klein (KK) photon $γ^{(2)}$ and Z boson $Z^{(2)}$ at the LHC including all significant processes in the minimal universal extra dimension (MUED) model. For discrimination of the MUED model from other TeV scale models in hadron collider experiments, $γ^{(2)}$ and $Z^{(2)}$ play a crucial role. In order to discuss the discrimination and calculate their production rates, we derive effective Lagrangian containing KK number violating operators. We show that KK number violating processes are extremely important for the compactification scale larger than 800 GeV. We find that, with an integrated luminosity of 100 fb$^{-1}$, $γ^{(2)}$ and $Z^{(2)}$ are produced 10$^6$ - 10$^2$ for the compactification scale between 400 GeV and 2000 GeV.

Leptogenesis Scenarios via Non-Thermally Produced Right-handed Neutrino and Sneutrino in Supersymmetric Seesaw Model

We reconsidered leptogenesis scenario from right-handed (s)neutrino produced by the decay of inflaton. Besides the well-investigated case that the neutrino decays instantaneously after the production, leptogenesis is possible if neutrino decays after it dominates the universe. In the latter case, right-handed (s)neutrino can decay either while it is relativistic or after it becomes non-relativistic. Especially, the first case has not been discussed seriously in literatures. Resultant lepton asymmetry and constraints from the gravitino problem are studied in broad parameter region, including all cases of this scenario. It is also shown how this leptogenesis scenario depends on the parameters, the inflaton decay rate (the reheating temperature), the right-handed neutrino mass, the washout parameter, and the constraint from the gravitino problem. Leptogenesis from relativistic neutrino decay is interesting because both thermal and non-thermal gravitino problems can be relaxed.

Universal Extra Dimension models with right-handed neutrinos

Relic abundance of dark matter is investigated in the framework of universal extra dimension (UED) models with right-handed neutrinos. These models are free from the KK graviton problem in the minimal UED model. The first KK particle of the right-handed neutrino is a dark matter candidate in this framework. When ordinary neutrino masses are large enough such as the degenerate mass spectrum case, the dark matter relic abundance can increase significantly. The scale of the extra dimension consistent with cosmological observations can be 500 GeV in the minimal setup of UED models with right-handed neutrinos.

Light Higgs boson scenario in the SUSY seesaw model

It is demonstrated that the light Higgs boson scenario, which the lightest Higgs mass is less than the LEP bound, mh > 114.4 GeV, is consistent with the SUSY seesaw model. With the assumptions of the universal right-handed neutrino mass and the hierarchical mass spectrum of the ordinary neutrinos, the bounds for the right-handed neutrino mass is investigated in terms of lepton flavor violating charged lepton decays. We also discuss the effect of the modification of renormalization group equations by the right-handed neutrinos on the b to s gamma process and the relic abundance of dark matter in the light Higgs boson scenario.

Neutralino Dark Matter in Light Higgs Boson Scenario

Phenomenology of neutralino dark matter in the minimal supersymmetric model is discussed for a scenario where the lightest Higgs boson mass is lighter than 114.4 GeV. We show that the scenario is consistent not only with many collider experiments but also with the observed relic abundance of dark matter. The allowed region may be probed by experiments of Bs to mu^+ mu^- in near future. The scenario predicts a large scattering cross section between the dark matter and ordinary matter and thus it may be tested in present direct detection experiments of dark matter.

Cosmological implications of supersymmetric axion models

We derive general constraints on supersymmetric extension of axion models, in particular paying careful attention to the cosmological effects of saxion. It is found that for every mass range of the saxion from keV to TeV, severe constraints on the energy density of the saxion are imposed. Together with constraints from axino we obtain stringent upper bounds on the reheating temperature.

Affleck-Dine leptogenesis via multiscalar evolution in a supersymmetric seesaw model

A leptogenesis scenario in a supersymmetric standard model extended with introducing right-handed neutrinos is reconsidered. Lepton asymmetry is produced in the condensate of a right-handed sneutrino via the Affleck-Dine mechanism. The LH_u direction develops large value due to a negative effective mass induced by the right-handed sneutrino condensate through the Yukawa coupling of the right-handed neutrino, even if the minimum during the inflation is fixed at the origin. The lepton asymmetry is nonperturbatively transfered to the LH_u direction by this Yukawa coupling.
