Hamiltonians arising from L-functions in the Selberg class

We establish a new equivalent condition for the Grand Riemann Hypothesis for L-functions in a wide subclass of the Selberg class in terms of canonical systems of differential equations. A canonical system is determined by a real symmetric matrixvalued function called a Hamiltonian. To establish the equivalent condition, we use an inverse problem for canonical systems of a special type.

Integral operators arising from the Riemann zeta function

In this paper we have two issues coming from the same background. The first one is to describe a certain ratio of Fredholm determinants of integral operators arising from the Riemann zeta function by using the solution of a single integral equation. The second one is to introduce a new integral operator arising from the Riemann zeta function and to study its basic analytic properties.

A canonical system of differential equations arising from the Riemann zeta-function

This paper has two main results, which relate to a criteria for the Riemann hypothesis via the family of functions $Θ_ω(z)=ξ(1/2-ω-iz)/ξ(1/2+ω-iz)$, where $ω>0$ is a real parameter and $ξ(s)$ is the Riemann xi-function. The first main result is necessary and sufficient conditions for $Θ_ω$ to be a meromorphic inner function in the upper half-plane. It is related to the Riemann hypothesis directly whether $Θ_ω$ is a meromorphic inner function. In comparison with this, a relation of the Riemann hypothesis and the second main result is indirect. It relates to the theory of de Branges, which associates a meromorphic inner function and a canonical system of linear differential equations (in the sense of de Branges). As the second main result, the canonical system associated with $Θ_ω$ is constructed explicitly and unconditionally under the restriction of the parameter $ω>1$ by applying a method of J.-F. Burnol in his recent work on the gamma function to the Riemann xi-function. If such construction is extended to all $ω> 0$ unconditionally, we get a criterion for the Riemann hypothesis in terms of a family of canonical systems parametrized by $ω>0$, which explains the validity of the Riemann hypothesis as positive semidefiniteness of the corresponding family of Hamiltonian matrices.

On zeros of self-reciprocal polynomials

We establish a necessary and sufficient condition for all zeros of a self-reciprocal polynomial to lie on the unit circle. Moreover, we relate the necessary and sufficient condition with a canonical system of linear differential equations (in the sense of de Branges). This relationship enable us to understand that the property of a self-reciprocal polynomial having only zeros on the unit circle is equivalent to the positive semidefiniteness of Hamiltonians of corresponding canonical systems.

Mean-periodicity and zeta functions

This paper establishes new bridges between number theory and modern harmonic analysis, namely between the class of complex functions, which contains zeta functions of arithmetic schemes and closed with respect to product and quotient, and the class of mean-periodic functions in several spaces of functions on the real line. In particular, the meromorphic continuation and functional equation of the zeta function of arithmetic scheme with its expected analytic shape is shown to correspond to mean-periodicity of a certain explicitly defined function associated to the zeta function. This correspondence can be viewed as an extension of the Hecke--Weil correspondence. The case of elliptic curves over number fields and their regular models is treated in more details, and many other examples are included as well.

Two dimensional adelic analysis and cuspidal automorphic representations of GL(2)

Two dimensional adelic objects were introduced by I. Fesenko in his study of the Hasse zeta function associated to a regular model $\mathcal E$ of the elliptic curve $E$. The Hasse-Weil $L$-function $L(E,s)$ of $E$ appears in the denominator of the Hasse zeta function of $\mathcal E$. The two dimensional adelic analysis predicts that the integrand $h$ of the boundary term of the two dimensional zeta integral attached to $\mathcal E$ is mean-periodic. The mean-periodicity of $h$ implies the meromorphic continuation and the functional equation of $L(E,s)$. On the other hand, if $E$ is modular, several nice analytic properties of $L(E,s)$, in particular the analytic continuation and the functional equation, are obtained by the theory of the cuspical automorphic representation of GL(2) over the ordinary ring of adele (one dimensional adelic object). In this article we try to relate the theory of two dimensional adelic object to the theory of cuspidal automorphic representation of GL(2) over the one dimensional adelic object, under the assumption that $E$ is modular. Roughly speaking, they are dual each other.

Non-positivity of certain functions associated with analysis on elliptic surfaces

In this paper, we study some basic analytic properties of the boundary term of Fesenko's two-dimensional zeta integrals. In the case of the rational number field, we show that this term is the Laplace transform of certain infinite series consisting of $K$-Bessel functions. It is known that the non-positivity property of the fourth log derivative of such series is a sufficient condition for the Riemann hypothesis of the Hasse-Weil $L$-function attached to an elliptic curve. We show that such non-positivity is a necessary condition under some technical assumption.

Zeta functions for $G_2$ and their zeros

The exceptional group $G_2$ has two maximal parabolic subgroups $P_{long}$, $P_{short}$ corresponding to the so-called long root and short root. In this paper, the second author introduces two zeta functions associated to $(G_2,P_{long})$ and $(G_2,P_{short})$ respectively, and the first author proves that these zetas satisfy the Riemann Hypothesis.

The Riemann hypothesis for Weng's zeta function of $Sp(4)$ over $\mathbb{Q}$

As a generalization of the Dedekind zeta function, Weng defined the high rank zeta functions and proved that they have standard properties of zeta functions, namely, meromorphic continuation, functional equation, and having only two simple poles. The rank one zeta function is the Dedekind zeta function. For the rank two case, the Riemann hypothesis is proved for a general number field. Recently, he defined more general new zeta function associated to a pair of reductive group and its maximal parabolic subgroup. As well as high rank zeta functions, the new zeta function satisfies standard properties of zeta functions. In this paper, we prove that the Riemann hypothesis of Weng's zeta function attached to the sympletic group of degree four. This paper includes an appendix written by L. Weng, in which he explains a general construction for zeta functions associated to $Sp(2n)$.

An analogue of the Chowla-Selberg formula for several automorphic L-functions

In this paper, we will give a certain formula for the Riemann zeta function that expresses the Riemann zeta function by an infinte series consisting of $K$-Bessel functions. Such an infinite series expression can be regarded as an analogue of the Chowla-Selberg formula. Roughly speaking, the Chowla-Selberg formula is the formula that expresses the Epstein zeta-function by an infinite series consisting of $K$-Bessel functions. In addition, we also give certain analogues of the Chowla-Selberg formula for Dirichlet $L$-functions and $L$-functions associated with holomorphic cusp forms. Moreover, we introduce a two variable function which is analogous to the real analytic Eisenstein series and give a certain limit formula for this one. Such a limit formula can be regarded as an analogue of Kronecker's limit formula.

The Riemann hypothesis for certain integrals of Eisenstein series

This paper studies the non-holomorphic Eisenstein series E(z,s) for the modular surface, and shows that integration with respect to certain non-negative measures gives meromorphic functions of s that have all their zeros on the critical line Re(s) = 1/2. For the constant term of the Eisenstein series it shows that all zeros are on the critical line for fixed y= Im(z) \ge 1, except possibly for two real zeros, which are present if and only if y > 4 πe^{-γ} = 7.0555+. It shows the Riemann hypothesis holds for all truncation integrals with truncation parameter T \ge 1. For T=1 this proves the Riemann hypothesis for a zeta function recently introduced by Lin Weng, attached to rank 2 semistable lattices over the rationals.

A relation between the zeros of different two $L$-functions which have the Euler product and functional equation

As automorphic $L$-functions or Artin $L$-functions, several classes of $L$-functions have Euler products and functional equations. In this paper we study the zeros of $L$-functions which have the Euler products and functional equations. We show that there exists some relation between the zeros of the Riemann zeta-function and the zeros of such $L$-functions. As a special case of our results, we find the relations between the zeros of the Riemann zeta-function and the zeros of automorphic $L$-functions attached to elliptic modular forms or the zeros of Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions attached to two elliptic modular forms.
