Irradiation Studies of TGC Electronics Components for the ATLAS Experiment at High-Luminosity LHC

This paper evaluates the radiation tolerance of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) electronics components for use in the Thin Gap Chamber (TGC) frontend electronics of the ATLAS experiment at the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). The ATLAS experiment has accumulated more than 450 fb^-1 of data as of 2025. Its luminosity upgrade, the HL-LHC scheduled to begin operation in 2030, will deliver 3000-4000 fb^-1 over ten years and lead to substantially higher radiation levels in detector electronics. The radiation levels for the TGC frontend electronics are estimated to be 4.1-7.3 Gy in terms of Total Ionizing Dose (TID) and 1.1-2.2 x 10^11 n_1MeV cm^-2 in terms of Non-Ionizing Energy Loss (NIEL). To evaluate component suitability under these conditions, TID tests were conducted using Cobalt-60 gamma rays at Nagoya University, and NIEL tests were performed with the Tandem Accelerator at Kobe University. Various COTS components, including SFP+ optical transceivers, clock jitter cleaners, optical fibers, voltage references, operational amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, digital-to-analog converters, SD cards, flash memories, and low-dropout regulators, were tested and evaluated against the required radiation levels. The results demonstrate that all evaluated components meet the TID and NIEL tolerance requirements for application in the TGC frontend electronics at the HL-LHC.

Velocity dependence of the mass modifications of $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons in 12 GeV $p+A$ reactions

This study measured the invariant mass spectra of $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons in the $e^+e^-$ decay channel for 12 GeV (12.9 GeV/$c$) $p+\mathrm{C}$ and $p+\mathrm{Cu}$ reactions ($\sqrt{s}_{NN}=5.1$ GeV) at the KEK 12-GeV Proton Synchrotron. The measured spectra were divided into three $βγ$ regions to examine their velocity dependence. Across all regions, significant excesses were observed on the low-mass side of the $ω$ meson peak, beyond the contributions of known hadronic sources, in the data of the C and Cu targets. Model calculations were subsequently performed to evaluate the magnitudes of the mass modifications of $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons.

Analysis of spectral modification of $ϕ$ mesons at finite density using a transport approach in the 12 GeV pA reactions

The hadron spectrum at finite density is an important observable for exploring the origin of hadron masses. In the KEK-PS E325 experiment, the di-electron decays of phi mesons inside and outside nuclei were measured using 12 GeV pA reactions. In the previous analysis, a significant excess was observed on the low-mass side of the phi meson peak in the data for slow-moving phi mesons ($βγ=p_ϕ/m_ϕ<1.25$) with the Cu target, and in-medium vector meson spectral modification was verified. We newly employed the PHSD transport approach to take into account the time evolution of spatial density distribution of the target nuclei. Consistent with the previous analysis, a significant excess was observed in the present analysis as well. It was found that incorporating momentum dependence into the spectral modification leads to better agreement with the experimental results. For the slow-moving $ϕ$ mesons with the Cu target, the newly obtained modification parameters are consistent with those from the previous analysis within the uncertainties.

Application of Particle Transformer to quark flavor tagging in the ILC project

International Linear Collider (ILC) is a next-generation $e^+e^-$ linear collider to explore Beyond-Standard-Models by precise measurements of Higgs bosons. Jet flavor tagging plays a vital role in the ILC project by identification of $H\to b\bar{b},\,c\bar{c},\,g\bar{g},\,s\bar{s}$ to measure Higgs coupling constants and of $HH\to b\bar{b}b\bar{b}$ and $b\bar{b}WW$ which are the main channels to measure the Higgs self-coupling constant. Jet flavor tagging relies on a large amount of jet information such as particle momenta, energies, and impact parameters, obtained from trajectories of particles within a jet. Since jet flavor tagging is a classification task based on massive amounts of information, machine learning techniques have been utilized for faster and more efficient analysis for the last several decades. Particle Transformer (ParT) is a machine learning model based on Transformer architecture developed for jet analysis, including jet flavor tagging. In this study, we apply ParT to ILD full simulation data to improve the efficiency of jet flavor tagging. Our research focused on evaluating the performance of ParT compared to that of the previously used flavor tagging software, LCFIPlus. We will also report the status of the performance of strange tagging on ILD full simulation dataset using ParT, which can be applied to the analysis of Higgs-strange coupling.

High Level Reconstruction with Deep Learning using ILD Full Simulation

Deep learning can give a significant impact on physics performance of electron-positron Higgs factories such as ILC and FCCee. We are working on two topics on event reconstruction to apply deep learning. The first is jet flavor tagging, in which we apply particle transformer to ILD full simulation to obtain jet flavor, including strange tagging. The second is particle flow, which clusters calorimeter hits and assigns tracks to them to improve jet energy resolution. We modified the algorithm developed in context of CMS HGCAL based on GravNet and Object Condensation techniques and add a track-cluster assignment function into the network. The overview and performance of these algorithms are described.

Searching for heavy neutral leptons through exotic Higgs decays at the ILC

In this study we investigate the feasibility of detecting heavy neutral leptons ($N_d$) through exotic Higgs decays at the proposed International Linear Collider (ILC), specifically in the channel of $e^+ e^- \to qq~ H$ with $H\to νN_d \to ν~lW \to νl~qq$. Analyses based on full detector simulations of the ILD are performed at the center-of-mass energy of 250 GeV for two different beam polarization schemes with a total integrated luminosity of 2 $\mathrm{ab}^{-1}$. A range of heavy neutral lepton masses between the $Z$ boson and Higgs boson masses are studied. The $2σ$ significance reach for the joint branching ratio of $BR(H\toνN_d)\cdot BR(N_d\to lW)$ is about 0.1\%, nearly independent of the heavy neutral lepton masses, while the $5σ$ discovery is possible at a branching ratio of $0.3\%$. Interpreting these results in terms of constraints on the mixing parameters $|\varepsilon_{id}|^2$ between SM neutrinos and the heavy neutral lepton, it is expected to have a factor of 10 improvement from current constraints.
