Ground states of all mesons and baryons in a quark model with Hidden Local Symmetry

We extend the chiral quark model for $u$, $d$, $c$ and $b$ quarks with vector mesons, which we proposed in the previous analysis, to a model with the $s$ quark. We include the nonet pseudo-scalar and vector mesons together with the singlet scalar meson based on the SU(3)$_L \times$SU(3)$_R$ chiral symmetry combined with the Hidden Local Symmetry, which mediate force among $u$, $d$ and $s$ quarks. We fit the model parameters to the known ground state mesons and baryons. We show that the mass spectra of those hadrons are beautifully reproduced. We predict the masses of missing ground states, one meson and twenty baryons, which will be tested in the future experiment.

Axial anomaly effect on three-quark and five-quark singly heavy baryons

Effects of the $U(1)_A$ axial anomaly on the mass spectrum of singly heavy baryons (SHBs) is studied in terms of the chiral effective theory based on the chiral linear representation for light flavors. We consider SHBs made of both three quarks ($Qqq$) and five quarks ($Qqqq\bar{q}$). For the three-quark SHBs we prove that the inverse mass hierarchy for the negative-parity $Λ_c$ and $Ξ_c$ is realized only when the $U(1)_A$ anomaly is present. For the five-quark SHBs, in contrast, it is found that the $U(1)_A$ anomaly does not change the mass spectrum at the leading order, and accordingly their decay properties induced by emitting a pseudoscalar meson are not affected by the anomaly. Moreover, taking into account small mixings between the three-quark and five-quark SHBs, we find that the observed $Ξ_c$ excited state, either $Ξ_c(2923)$ or $Ξ_c(2930)$, can be consistently regarded as a negative-parity SHB that is dominated by the five-quark component. We also predict a new negative-parity five-quark dominant $Λ_c$, whose mass is around $2700$ MeV and the decay width is of order a few MeV, which provides useful information for future experiments to check our description.

Nuclear structure in Parity Doublet Model

Using an extended parity doublet model with the hidden local symmetry, we study some properties of nuclei in the mean field approximation to see if the parity doublet model could reproduce nuclear properties and also to estimate the value of the chiral invariant nucleon mass $m_0$ preferred by nuclear structure. We first determine our model parameters using the inputs from free space and from nuclear matter properties. Then, we study some basic nuclear properties such as the nuclear binding energy with several different choices of the chiral invariant mass. We observe that our results approach the experimental values as $m_0$ is increased until $m_0=700$ MeV and start to deviate more from the experiments afterwards with $m_0$ larger than $m_0=700$ MeV. From this observation, we conclude that $m_0=700$ MeV is preferred by nuclear properties. We then calculate some properties of several selected nuclei with $m_0=700$ MeV and compare them with experiments. Finally, we study the neutron-proton mass difference in some nuclei.

Quark model with Hidden Local Symmetry and its application to $T_{cc}$

We propose a chiral quark model including the $ω$ and $ρ$ meson contributions in addition to the $π$ and $σ$ meson contributions. We show that the masses of the ground state baryons such as the nucleon, $Λ_c$ and $Λ_b$ are dramatically improved in the model with the vector mesons compared with the one without them. The study of the tetraquark $T_{cc}$ is also performed in a coupled channel calculation and the resultant mass is much closer to its experimental value than the result without vector meson contribution. This approach can be applied to the future study of multi-quark systems.

Parity doublet model for baryon octets: diquark classifications and mass hierarchy based on the quark-line diagram

We construct $ {\rm SU(3)}_{\rm L} \otimes {\rm SU(3)}_{\rm R}$ invariant parity doublet models within the linear realization of the chiral symmetry. Describing baryons as the superposition of linear representations should be useful description for transitions toward the chiral restoration. The major problem in the construction is that there are much more chiral representations for baryons than in the two-flavor cases. To reduce the number of possible baryon fields, we introduce a hierarchy between representations with good or bad diquarks (called soft and hard baryon representations, respectively). We use $(3,\bar3)+(\bar3,3)$ and $(8,1)+(1,8)$ as soft to construct a chiral invariant Lagrangian, while the $(3,6)+(6,3)$ representations are assumed to be integrated out, leaving some effective interactions. The mass splitting associated with the strange quark mass is analyzed in the first and second order in the meson fields $M$ in $(3,\bar3)+(\bar3,3)$ representations. We found that the chiral $ {\rm SU(3)}_L \otimes {\rm SU(3)}_R$ constraints are far more restrictive than the $ {\rm SU(3)}_V$ constraints used in conventional models for baryons. After extensive analyses within $(3,\bar3)+(\bar3,3)$ and $(8,1)+(1,8)$ models, we found that models in the first order of $M$ do not reproduce the mass hierarchy correctly, although the {\GO} is satisfied. In the second order, the masses of the positive parity channels are reproduced well up to the first radial excitations, while some problem in the mass ordering remains in a negative parity channel. Apparently the baryon dynamics is not well-saturated by just $(3,\bar3)+(\bar3,3)$ and $(8,1)+(1,8)$ representations, as indicated by the necessity of terms higher order in $M$.

Chiral restoration of nucleons in neutron star matter: studies based on a parity doublet model

We review the chiral variant and invariant components of nucleon masses and its consequence on the chiral restoration in extreme conditions, neutron star matter in particular. We consider a model of linear realization of chiral symmetry with the nucleon parity doublet structure that permits the chiral invariant mass, $m_0$, for positive and negative parity nucleons. Nuclear matter is constructed with the parity doublet nucleon model coupled to scalar fields $σ$, vector fields $(ω, ρ)$, and to mesons with strangeness through the U(1)$_A$ anomaly. In models with large $m_0$, the nucleon mass is insensitive to the medium, and the nuclear saturation properties can be reproduced without demanding strong couplings of nucleons to scalar fields $σ$ and vector fields $ω$. We confront the resulting nuclear equations of state with nuclear constraints and neutron star observations, and delineate the chiral invariant mass and effective interactions. To further examine nuclear equations of state beyond the saturation density, we supplement quark models to set the boundary conditions from the high density side. The quark models are constrained by the two-solar mass conditions, and such constraints are transferred to nuclear models through the causality and thermodynamic stability conditions. We also calculate various condensates and matter composition from nuclear to quark matter in a unified matter, by constructing a generating functional that interpolates nuclear and quark matter with external fields. Two types of chiral restoration are discussed; the one due to the positive scalar charges of nucleons, and the other triggered by the evolution of the Dirac sea. We found the U(1)$_A$ anomaly softens equations of state from low to high density.

Inverse mass ordering of light scalar mesons in the Nambu Jona-Lasinio model

The masses of the low-lying scalar mesons are investigated in the three-flavor Nambu Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model by treating the scalar mesons as composite objects of a quark and an antiquark. It is known that a simple $\bar qq$ picture fails to reproduce so-called inverse mass ordering for the scalar mesons. Recently a new mechanism to reproduce the observed mass spectrum of the scalar mesons was proposed in a linear sigma model by introducing flavor symmetry breaking induced by the U(1) axial anomaly. Motivated by this proposal, we examine whether this new mechanism works also in the NJL model. By calculating the scalar meson masses, we find that the NJL model reproduces the observed mass ordering with sufficient strength of the new term. With this mechanism, it turns out that the constituent strange quark mass gets degenerate to that of the up and down quark if the inverse mass ordering is reproduced. We also discuss the scalar diquark masses to check the consistency of the degeneracy of the constituent quark masses with the light baryon masses.

Impacts of anomaly on nuclear and neutron star equation of state based on a parity doublet model

We examine the role of the $U(1)_A$ anomaly in a parity doublet model of nucleons which include the chiral variant and invariant masses. Our model expresses the $U(1)_A$ anomaly by the Kobayashi-Maskawa-'t\,Hooft (KMT) interaction in the mesonic sector. After examining the roles of the KMT term in vacuum, we discuss its impacts on nuclear equations of state (EOS). The $U(1)_A$ anomaly increases the masses of the $η'$ and $σ$ mesons and enhances the chiral symmetry breaking. The $U(1)_A$ anomaly enlarges the energy difference between chiral symmetric and symmetry broken vacuum; in turn, the chiral restoration at high density adds a larger energy density (often referred as a bag constant) to EOSs than in the case without the anomaly, leading to softer EOSs. Including these $U(1)_A$ effects, we update the previously constructed unified equations of state that interpolate the nucleonic EOS at $n_B \le 2n_0$ ($n_{0} = 0.16\, \rm{fm^{-3}}$: nuclear saturation density) and quark EOS at $n_B \ge 5n_0$. The unified EOS is confronted with the observational constraints on the masses and radii of neutron stars. The softening of EOSs associated with the $U(1)$ anomaly reduces the overall radii, relaxing the previous constraint on the chiral invariant mass $m_0$. Including the attractive nonlinear $ρ$-$ω$ coupling to improved estimates for the slope parameter in the symmetry energy, our new estimate is $400\,{\rm MeV} \leq m_0 \leq 700\,{\rm MeV}$, with $m_0$ smaller than our previous estimate by $\sim 200$ MeV.

Chiral condensates for neutron stars in hadron-quark crossover; from a parity doublet nucleon model to an NJL quark model

In this contribution, we summarize our recent studies on the chiral invariant mass and the chiral condensates in neutron star matter. We construct a unified equations of state assuming the crossover phase transition from hadronic matter described by a parity doublet model to quark matter by an Nambu--Jona-Lasinio type quark model. We first show that the chiral invariant mass is constrained to be 600 MeV $\lesssim m_0 \lesssim$ 900 MeV from recent observations of neutron stars. We then determine the density dependence of the chiral condensate in the crossover description, and show that the chiral condensates are actually smoothly connected from the hadronic matter where the change is driven by the positive chiral scalar charge in a nucleon, to the quark matter where the change is by the modification of the quark Dirac sea, reflecting the hadron-quark crossover.

Chiral condensates for neutron stars in hadron-quark crossover: from a parity doublet nucleon model to an NJL quark model

We study the chiral condensates in neutron star matter from nuclear to quark matter domain. We describe nuclear matter with a parity doublet model (PDM), quark matter with the Nambu--Jona-Lasino (NJL) model, and a matter at the intermediate density by interpolating nuclear and quark matter equations of state. The model parameters are constrained by nuclear physics and neutron star observations. Various condensates in the interpolated domain are estimated from the chemical potential dependence of the condensates at the boundaries of the interpolation. The use of the PDM with substantial chiral invariant mass ($m_0 \gtrsim 500$ MeV, which is favored by the neutron star observations) predicts the mild chiral restoration, and the significant chiral condensate remains to baryon density $n_B \sim 2-3n_0$ ($n_0\simeq 0.16\,{\rm fm}^{-3}$: nuclear saturation density), smoothly approaching the NJL predictions for the color-flavor-locked phase at $n_B \gtrsim 5n_0$. The same method is applied to estimate diquark condensates, number densities of up-, down- and strange-quarks, and the lepton fraction. In our descriptions the chiral restoration in the interpolated domain proceeds with two conceptually distinct chiral restoration effects; the first is associated with the positive scalar density in a nucleon, relevant in dilute regime, and the other primarily arises from the modification of the quark Dirac sea, which is triggered by the growth of the quark Fermi sea. We discuss several qualitative conjectures to interpolate the microphysics in nuclear and quark matter.

Role of U$_{A}$(1) breaking term in dynamical chiral symmetry breaking of chiral effective theories

The spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry is examined by chiral effective theories, such as the linear sigma model and the Nambu Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. Indicating that sufficiently large contribution of the UA(1) anomaly can break chiral symmetry spontaneously, we discuss such anomaly driven symmetry breaking and its implication. We derive a mass relation among the SU(3) flavor singlet mesons, eta0 and sigma0, in the linear sigma model to be satisfied for the anomaly driven symmetry breaking in the chiral limit, and find that it is also supported in the NJL model. With the explicit breaking of chiral symmetry, we find that the chiral effective models reproducing the observed physical quantities suggest that the sigma0 meson regarded as the quantum fluctuation of the chiral condensate should have a mass smaller than an order of 800 MeV when the anomaly driven symmetry breaking takes place.

Doubly Heavy Tetraquark Resonant States

Spectrum of the doubly heavy tetraquarks, $bb\bar q\bar q$, is studied in a constituent quark model. Four-body problem is solved in a variational method where the real scaling technique is used to identify resonant states above the fall-apart decay thresholds. In addition to the two bound states that were reported in the previous study we have found several narrow resonant states above the $BB^*$ and $B^*B^*$ thresholds. Their structures are studied and are interpreted by the quark dynamics. A narrow resonance with spin-parity $J^P=1^+$ is found to be a mixed state of a compact tetraquark and a $B^*B^*$ scattering state. This is driven by a strong color Coulombic attraction between the $bb$ quarks. Negative-parity excited resonances with $J^P=0^-$, $1^-$ and $2^-$ form a triplet under the heavy-quark spin symmetry. It turns out that they share a similar structure to the $λ$-mode of a singly heavy baryon as a result of the strongly attractive correlation for the doubly heavy diquark.

Quark-hadron crossover equations of state for neutron stars: constraining the chiral invariant mass in a parity doublet model

We construct an equation of state (EOS) for neutron stars by interpolating hadronic EOS at low density and quark EOS at high density. A hadronic model based on the parity doublet structure is used for hadronic matter and a quark model of Nambu--Jona-Lasinio type is for quark matter. We assume crossover between hadronic matter and quark matter in the the color-flavor locked phase. The nucleon mass of the parity doublet model has a mass associated with the chiral symmetry breaking, and a chiral invariant mass $m_0$ which is insensitive to the chiral condensate. The value of $m_0$ affects the nuclear EOSs at low density, and has strong correlations with the radii of neutron stars. Using the constraint to the radius obtained by LIGO-Virgo and NICER, we find that $m_0$ is restricted as $600\,\mathrm{MeV}\lesssim m_0 \lesssim 900\,\mathrm{MeV}$.

Suppression of decay widths in singly heavy baryons induced by the $U_A (1)$ anomaly

We study strong and radiative decays of excited singly heavy baryons (SHBs) using an effective chiral Lagrangian based on the diquark picture proposed in Ref. [1]. The effective Lagrangian contains a $U_A (1)$ anomaly term, which induces an inverse mass ordering between strange and non-strange SHBs with spin-parity $1/2^-$. We find that the effect of the $U_A (1)$ anomaly combined with flavor-symmetry breaking modifies the Goldberger-Treiman relation for the mass difference between the ground state $Λ_Q (1/2^+)$ and its chiral partner $Λ_Q (1/2^-)$, and $Λ_Q (1/2^-) Λ_Q (1/2^+) η$ coupling, which results in suppression of the decay width of $Λ_Q (1/2^-) \to Λ_Q (1/2^+) η$. We also investigate the other various decays such as $Λ_Q (1/2^-) \to Σ_Q (1/2^+, \, 3/2^+) ππ$, $Λ_Q (1/2^-) \to Σ_Q (1/2^+) π$, $Λ_Q (1/2^-) \to Σ_Q (1/2^+, \, 3/2^+) γ$, and $Λ_Q (1/2^-) \to Λ_Q (1/2^+) π^0$ for wide range of mass of $Λ_Q (1/2^-)$.

Inverse Mass Hierarchy of Light Scalar Mesons Driven by Anomaly-Induced Flavor Breaking

We propose a novel mechanism to reproduce the observed mass hierarchy for the scalar mesons lighter than 1 GeV (called the inverse hierarchy) regarding them as mesons made of a quark and an anti-quark ($q\bar{q}$ mesons). The source is provided by the SU(3)-flavor symmetry-breaking induced by U(1) axial anomaly. In particular, the anomaly term including the explicit-chiral symmetry-breaking plays a significant role for the light scalar meson spectrum. To be concrete, we construct a linear sigma model for the scalar mesons of $q\bar{q}$ type together with their pseudoscalar chiral partners, including an anomaly-induced explicit-chiral symmetry-breaking term. We find that, due to the proposed mechanism, the inverse hierarchy, i.e., $m\left[ a_0 (980) \right] \simeq m\left[ f_0 (980) \right] > m \left[ K_0^\ast (700) \right] > m \left[ f_0(500) \right]$ is indeed realized. Consequently, the quark content of $f_0 (500)$ is dominated by the isoscalar $\bar uu+ \bar dd$ component, and $f_0 (980)$ is by the strange quark bilinear's, $s\bar{s}$.

Chiral effective theory of diquarks and the U_A(1) anomaly

The diquark is a strongly correlated quark pair that plays an important role in hadrons and hadronic matter. In order to treat the diquak as a building block of hadrons, we formulate an effective theory of diquark fields with $SU(3)_R \times SU(3)_L$ chiral symmetry. We concentrate on the scalar ($0^+$) and pseudoscalar ($0^-$) diquarks and construct a linear-sigma-model Lagrangian. It is found that the effective Lagrangian contains a new type of chirally symmetric meson-diquark-diquark coupling that breaks axial $U_A(1)$ symmetry. We discuss consequences of the $U_A(1)$ anomaly term to the diquark masses as well as to the singly heavy baryon spectrum, which is directly related to the diquark spectrum. We find an inverse mass ordering between strange and nonstrange diquarks. The parameters of the effective theory can be determined by the help of lattice QCD calculations of diquarks and also from the mass spectrum of the singly heavy baryons. We determine the strength of the $U_A(1)$ anomaly term, which is found to give a significant portion of the diquark masses.

Single heavy baryons with chiral partner structure in a three-flavor chiral model

We construct an effective hadronic model including single heavy baryons (SHBs) belonging to the $(\mathbf{3},\mathbf{3})$ representation under $\mbox{SU}(3)_L \times \mbox{SU}(3)_R$ symmetry, respecting the chiral symmetry and heavy-qaurk spin-flavor symmetry. When the chiral symmetry is spontaneously broken, the SHBs are divided into the baryons with negative parity of $\bar{\mathbf 3}$ representation under $\mbox{SU}(3)$ flavor symmetry which is the chiral partners to the ones with positive parity of ${\mathbf 6}$ representation. We determine the model parameters from the available experimental data for the masses and strong decay widths of $Σ_c^{(\ast)}$, $Λ_c (2595)$, $Ξ_c (2790)$, and $Ξ_c (2815)$. Then, we predict the masses and strong decay widths of other baryons including $Ξ_b$ with negative parity. We also study radiative decays of SHBs including $Ω_c^\ast$ and $Ω_b^\ast$ with positive parity.

Heavy quark spin multiplet structure of $P_c(4312)$, $P_c(4440)$, and $P_c(4457)$

Very recently, the LHCb collaboration has reported the new result about the hidden-charm pentaquarks: $P_c(4312)$ near the $\bar{D}Σ_c$ threshold, and $P_c(4440)$ and $P_c(4457)$ near $\bar{D}^*Σ_c$ threshold. We study the heavy quark spin (HQS) multiplet structures of these newly $P_c$ pentaquarks under the heavy quark spin symmetry based on the hadronic molecular picture. We point out that $P_c(4312)$ is the $J^P = 1/2^-$ member of an HQS triplet, and $P_c(4440)$ and $P_c(4457)$ are the $J^P = 3/2^-$ member of the HQS triplet and an HQS singlet with $J^P = 3/2^-$. Namely, the $P_c(4312)$ and one of $P_c(4440)$ and $P_c(4457)$ belong to an HQS triplet. The HQS multiplet structure predicts the existence of $J^P = 5/2^-$ state near $\bar{D}^\astΣ_c^\ast$ threshold.
