Dilepton Production from Dropping rho in the Vector Manifestation

In this write-up we summarize the main result of our analysis on the thermal dilepton production rate from the dropping rho based on the vector manifestation (VM). In the analysis, we showed that the effect of the strong violation of the vector dominance (VD) predicted by the VM, substantially suppresses the dilepton production rate compared with the one predicted by assuming the VD together with the dropping rho.

Quasi-quark spectrum in the chiral symmetric phase from the Schwinger-Dyson equation

We non-perturbatively study the fermion spectrum in the chiral symmetric phase from the Schwinger-Dyson equation with the Feynman gauge, in which we perform an analytic continuation of the solution on the imaginary time axis to the real time axis with a method employing an integral equation. It is shown that the fermion spectrum has two peaks, which correspond to the normal quasi-fermion and the plasmino, although these peaks in the strong coupling region are very broad, owing to multiple scatterings with gauge bosons. We find that the thermal mass of the quasi-fermion saturates at some value of the gauge coupling, beyond which the thermal (pole) mass satisfies $M \sim T$, independently of the value of the gauge coupling. We also comment on the appearance of a three-peak structure in the fermion spectrum as a non-perturbative effect.

Two or Four: A Hint from Scalar Mesons in Radiative phi Decays ?

In this write-up, we summarize our recent analysis of radiative decays involving light scalar mesons. Our analysis using the vector meson dominance model at tree level indicates that it may be difficult to distinguish $qq\bar{q}\bar{q}$ picture and $q\bar{q}$ picture for the light scalar nonet. Our result on the process of $ϕ\to π^0 ηγ$ shows that the derivative-type $f_0 K\bar{K}$ interaction reproduces experimental data below 950 GeV well, but gives a poor fit above 950 GeV, i.e., in the energy region around the mass of $a_0(980)$, but that the discrepancy can be compensated by the effect of the $K$ loop.

Dropping rho and A1 Meson Masses at the Chiral Phase Transition in the Generalized Hidden Local Symmetry

In this contribution to the proceedings, we present our recent analysis on the chiral symmetry restoration in the generalized hidden local symmetry (GHLS) which incorporates the rho meson, $A_1$ meson and the pion consistently with the chiral symmetry of QCD. It is shown that a set of parameter relations, which ensures the first and second Weinberg sum rules, is invariant under the renormalization group evolution. Then, it is found that the Weinberg sum rules together with the matching of the vector and axial-vector current correlators to the OPE inevitably leads to {\it the dropping masses of both rho and $A_1$ mesons} at the symmetry restoration point, and that the mass ratio flows into one of three fixed points.

Quark spectrum above the critical temperature from Schwinger-Dyson equation

We investigate a spectrum of a fermion, which we call a quark, above the critical temperature of the chiral phase transition in a gauge theory using the Schwinger-Dyson (SD) equation. The SD equation enables us to study the spectrum over a wide range of the gauge coupling. It is shown that the quark spectrum has two sharp peaks which correspond to the normal quasi-quark and the plasmino and is consistent with that obtained in the hard thermal loop approximation in the weak coupling region, while it has also two peaks but with smaller thermal masses and broader widths in the strong coupling region. Temperature-dependence of the quark spectrum is also discussed.

pi^+ - pi^0 mass difference and S parameter in the large N_f QCD

In the framework of the Schwinger-Dyson equation and the Bethe-Salpeter equation in the improved ladder approximation, we calculate the S parameter and an analogue of the π^+ - π^0 mass difference Δm_π^2 \equiv m_{π^+}^2 -m_{π^0}^2 as well as the NG boson decay constant f_πon the same footing in the large N_f QCD, through the difference between the vector current correlator Π_{VV} and the axial-vector current correlator Π_{AA}. Approaching the chiral phase transition point α_*\to α_{\rm cr} (=π/4) from the broken phase, where α_* is the the gauge coupling on the infrared fixed point, Δm_π^2 as well as f_π^2 goes to zero with the essential-singularity scaling (Miransky scaling), while the ratio indicates a blowing up enhancement reflecting the characteristic behavior of the large N_f QCD as a walking theory which is expected to scale as Δm_π^2/f_π^2 \sim (α_*/α_{\rm cr}-1)^{-1/2}. On the other hand, the S parameter takes values somewhat smaller than that of the real-life QCD and indicates slightly decreasing tendency as we approach the phase transition point.

Chiral approach to phi radiative decays

The radiative decays of the phi meson are known to be a good source of information about the a0(980) and f0(980) scalar mesons. We discuss these decays starting from a non-linear model Lagrangian which maintains the (broken) chiral symmetry for the pseudoscalar (P), scalar (S) and vector (V) nonets involved. The characteristic feature is derivative coupling for the SPP interaction. In an initial approximation which models all the scalar nonet radiative processes together with the help of a point like vertex, it is noted that the derivative coupling prevents the a0 and f0 resonance peaks from getting washed out (by falling phase space). However, the shapes of the two final PP mass distributions do not agree well with the experimental ones. For improving the situation we verify that the inclusion of the charged K meson loop diagrams in the model does reproduce the experimental spectrum shapes in the resonance region. The derivative coupling introduces quadratic as well as logaritmic divergneces in this calculation. Using dimensional regularization we show that these divergences actually cancel out among the four diagrams, as expected from gauge invariance. We point out the features which are expected to be important for further work on this model and for learning more about the puzzling scalar mesons.

Vector Manifestation and the Hidden Local Symmetry

In this write-up, I summarize the key ingredients of the vector manifestaion formulated in the hidden local symmetry theory, in which the $ρ$ meson becomes massless degenerated with the pion at the chiral phase transition point.

Pion Velocity near the Chiral Phase Transition Point in the Vector Manifestation

We study the pion velocity near the critical temperature $T_c$ of chiral symmetry restoration in QCD. Using chiral perturbation theory based on hidden local symmetry (HLS) as an effective field theory, where the chiral symmetry restoration is realized as the vector manifestation (VM), we show that the pion velocity for $T \to T_c$ is close to the speed of light, $v_π(T) = 0.83 - 0.99$ which is at variance with the sigma model result which predicts $v_π(T_c) = 0$. Our prediction on $v_π(T_c)$ is compared with the value extracted from the recent RHIC data.

Hidden LocaL Symmetry Theory as an Effective Field Theory of QCD

In this write-up, I summarize the recent development of the hidden local symmetry (HLS) theory as an effective field theory of QCD. I first explain how the systematic chiral perturbation in the HLS is justified in the large Nc limit of QCD, and summarize the basic concept of the Wilsonian matching, through which some of the bare parameters of the HLS are determined by matching the HLS to the operator product expansion in QCD. Then, I briefly review how to formulate the vector manifestation in hot matter.

An Effective Field Theory at Finite Density

An effective theory to treat the dense nuclear medium by the perturbative expansion method is proposed as a natural extension of the Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory (HBChPT). Treating the Fermi momentum scale as a separate scale of the system, we get an improved convergence and the conceptually clear interpretation. We compute the pion decay constant and the pion velocity in the nuclear medium, and find their characters different from what the usual HBChPT predicts. We also obtain the Debye screening scale at the normal nuclear matter density, and the damping scale of the pion wave. Those results indicate that the present theory, albeit its improvement over the HBChPT, has the limitation yet to go over to the medium of about 1.3 times of normal matter density due to the absence of the intrinsic density dependence of the coupling constants. We discuss how we overcome this limitation in terms of the renormalization method.

Scalar Mesons in Radiative Decays and pi-pi Scattering

In this write-up, I summarize the analyses on the low-lying scalar mesons I have done recently with my collaborators. I first briefly review the previous analyses on the hadronic processes related to the scalar mesons, which shows that the scalar nonet takes dominantly the $qq\bar{q}\bar{q}$ structure. Next, I summarize our analysis on the radiative decays involving the scalar mesons, which indicates that it is difficult to distinguish $qq\bar{q}\bar{q}$ picture and $q\bar{q}$ picture just from radiative decays. Finally, I summarize our recent analysis on the $π$-$π$ scattering in the large $N_c$ QCD, which indicates that the $σ$ meson is likely the $qq\bar{q}\bar{q}$ state.

Chiral Doubling of Heavy-Light Hadrons and the Vector Manifestation of Hidden Local Symmetry

Starting with a hidden local symmetry Lagrangian at the vector manifestation (VM) fixed point that incorporates heavy-quark symmetry and matching the bare theory to QCD, we calculate the splitting of chiral doublers of heavy-light mesons proposed by Nowak, Rho and Zahed, and Bardeen and Hill. We show, in the three-flavor chiral limit, that the splitting is directly proportional to the light-quark condensate <\bar{q}q> and comes out to be \sim (1/3) m_N where m_N is the nucleon mass, implying that the splitting vanishes in the chiral limit at the chiral restoration point -- temperature T_c, density n_c or number of flavors N_F^c. The result turns out to be surprisingly simple with the vector (ρ) meson playing the crucial role in quantum corrections, pointing to the relevance of the VM to QCD in the way chiral symmetry is manifested in hadronic matter. We also make predictions on the hadronic decay processes of the excited heavy (charm) -light mesons \tilde{D}.

Vector Manifestation and Violation of Vector Dominance in Hot Matter

We show the details of the calculation of the hadronic thermal corrections to the two-point functions in the effective field theory of QCD for pions and vector mesons based on the hidden local symmetry (HLS) in hot matter using the background field gauge. We study the temperature dependence of the pion velocity in the low temperature region determined from the hadronic thermal corrections, and show that, due to the presence of the dynamical vector meson, the pion velocity is smaller than the speed of the light already at one-loop level, in contrast to the result obtained in the ordinary chiral perturbation theory including only the pion at one-loop. Including the intrinsic temperature dependences of the parameters of the HLS Lagrangian determined from the underlying QCD through the Wilsonian matching, we show how the vector manifestation (VM), in which the massless vector meson becomes the chiral partner of pion, is realized at the critical temperature. We present a new prediction of the VM on the direct photon-$π$-$π$ coupling which measures the validity of the vector dominance (VD) of the electromagnetic form factor of the pion: We find that the VD is largely violated at the critical temperature, which indicates that the assumption of the VD made in several analyses on the dilepton spectra in hot matter may need to be weakened for consistently including the effect of the dropping mass of the vector meson.

pi^+ - pi^0 mass difference from the Bethe-Salpeter equation

In the framework of the Schwinger-Dyson equation and the Bethe-Salpeter equation in the improved ladder approximation, we calculate the pi^+ - pi^0 mass difference on the same footing as the pion decay constant and the QCD S parameter (or L_{10}) through the difference between the vector current correlator Π_{VV} and the axial-vector current correlator Π_{AA}. We find that all the results can be fit to the experimental values for rather large Lambda_{QCD} \sim 700 MeV which reflects the ``scale ambiguity''. By fitting to the calculated data using the pole saturated form of Π_{VV} - Π_{AA}, we also derive masses and decay constants of rho meson and a_1 meson, which we found are consistent with the experiments rather insensitively to the ``scale ambiguity''.
