Charged black-hole binary radiation at second post-Newtonian order

In this work, we build on Ref.~[Phys.~Rev.~D 112, 124060 (2025)], where we derived the dynamics of an electrically charged binary system at second post-Newtonian (2PN) order, by extending the analysis, at the same PN accuracy, to the associated emission of electromagnetic and gravitational radiation. We focus on non-spinning binaries that evolve quasi-adiabatically along a sequence of circular orbits, and compute the 2PN expression for the corresponding total energy flux at infinity. With respect to the well-known case of a neutral binary, the presence of charge induces both a new leading-order electromagnetic contribution of dipolar nature and additional charge-dependent corrections in the gravitational sector. To account for this richer phenomenology, we extend both the PN-matched multipolar post-Minkowskian and the effective field theory approaches to the radiation sector of charged binaries, with exact agreement for the contributions computed independently in both formalisms. We derive the radiative symmetric-trace-free multipole moments of the vector and gravitational fields at 2PN order. In doing so, we also compute 2PN-accurate charge-dependent corrections to the spherical multipoles of the waveform emitted by the binary, including a new memory contribution sourced by the stress-energy tensor of the electromagnetic radiation. These results lay the foundation for developing accurate waveform models capable of assessing the observational signatures of electric charge in gravitational-wave signals.

Exploring Gravitational Wave Signatures Due to Primordial Non-gaussianity and Large Scale Structure Using SKAO

This chapter explores theoretical and observational strategies to use the stochastic gravitational-wave background detectable by Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) as a probe of precision cosmology. We detail the critical phenomenon of scalar-induced gravitational waves, demonstrating their unique features and their sensitivity to primordial non-Gaussianity on scales much smaller than those probed by the cosmic microwave background and large-scale structure. We investigate the phenomenology of parity violation in the early Universe through the chirality imprinted in the stochastic gravitational-wave background, demonstrating that a parity-odd primordial trispectrum can generate a detectable scale-dependent helicity. On the observational side, we point out that the standard gravitational-wave angular auto-correlation analysis is significantly limited by astrophysical shot noise. We show that cross-correlating the gravitational wave signal with independent large-scale structure tracers enhances the signal-to-noise ratio and allows us to isolate the astrophysical and cosmological components in the background. These results can be achieved only thanks to the enhanced sensitivity of SKAO, extensive sky coverage, and high angular resolution, which together make such targets observationally feasible.

All-order structure of static gravitational interactions and the seventh post-Newtonian potential

We present a closed formula for the computation of static post-Newtonian corrections to the two-body gravitational dynamics at any odd order, assuming the lower-order results are known. The formula is derived within a correlation function framework and exploits the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry of the static sector, leading to a novel theoretical interpretation of the factorization theorem. As an application, we compute the gravitational interaction of two compact coalescing objects at the seventh post-Newtonian order in the static limit, which receives contributions from seven-loop graphs at order $\mathcal{O}(G_N^8 v^0)$, and find complete agreement with the results obtained using the diagrammatic approach of the factorization theorem.

Six-loop gravitational interactions at the sixth post-Newtonian order

We compute the gravitational interaction of two coalescing compact objects at sixth post-Newtonian order in the static limit, employing the diagrammatic approach within the effective field theory framework of General Relativity. The calculation requires the evaluation of six-loop Feynman diagrams that are mapped onto two-point integrals with a gauge-theory-like structure, which are computed here for the first time. The resulting seventh-order contribution in Newton's constant is finite in three space dimensions. This result provides the most technically demanding missing ingredient for the determination of the conservative dynamics of the gravitational two-body system at sixth post-Newtonian order.

Tests of General Relativity with Einstein Telescope

Gravitational wave signals from compact binary coalescences offer a powerful and reliable probe of General Relativity. To date, the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA collaboration has provided stringent consistency tests of General Relativity predictions. In this work, we present forecasts for the accuracy with which General Relativity can be tested using third-generation ground-based interferometers, focusing on Einstein Telescope (ET) and binary black hole mergers. Given the expected high detection rate, performing full Bayesian analyses for each event becomes computationally challenging. To overcome this, we adopt a Fisher matrix approach, simulating parameter estimation in an idealized observation scenario, which allows us to study large populations of compact binary coalescences with feasible computational efforts. Within this framework, we investigate the constraints that ET, in its different configurations, can impose on inspiral post-Newtonian coefficients, by jointly analyzing events using a Bayesian hierarchical methodology. Our results indicate that ET could in principle achieve an accuracy of $\mathcal{O}(10^{-7})$ on the dipole radiation term and $\mathcal{O}(10^{-3})$ on higher-order post-Newtonian coefficients, for both the triangular and the two L-shaped designs, with $10^4$ catalog events. We also assess the number of detections required to confidently identify deviations from General Relativity at various post-Newtonian orders and for different detector configurations.

Charged Black-Hole Binary Evolution at Second Post-Newtonian Order

We study the dynamics of electrically charged black-hole binaries and their gravitational-wave emission during the inspiral phase. Within the post-Newtonian framework, we derive the conservative and dissipative dynamics up to second order (2PN), combining Effective Field Theory and classical methods. We compute the NNLO conservative Lagrangian, LO dissipative effects in harmonic and Lorenz gauges, and provide the equations of motion, center-of-mass transformations, and the Lagrangian/Hamiltonian in ADM-type coordinates. We also obtain gauge-invariant expressions for the binding energy, periastron advance in quasi-circular orbits, and the scattering angle in unbound orbits. Our results extend previous analyses and are fully consistent with recent post-Minkowskian findings.
