Systematic Synthesis and Design of Ultra-Low Threshold Parametric Frequency Dividers

A new method is discussed for the systematic synthesis, design and performance optimization of varactor-based parametric frequency dividers (PFDs) exhibiting an ultra-low power threshold ($P_{th}$). For the first time, it is analytically shown that the $P_{th}$-value exhibited by any PFD can always be expressed as an explicit closed-form function of the different impedances forming its network. Such a unique and unexplored property permits to rely on linear models, during the PFD design and performance optimization. The validity of our analytical model has been verified, in a commercial circuit simulator, through time-domain and frequency-domain algorithms. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our new synthesis approach, we also report on a lumped prototype of a 200:100MHz PFD, realized on a printed circuit board (PCB). Although inductors with quality factors lower than 50 were used, the PFD prototype exhibits a $P_{th}$-value lower than $-$15dBm. Such a low $P_{th}$-value is the lowest one ever reported for passive varactor-based PFDs, operating in the same frequency range.

Pure glueball states in a Light-Front holographic approach

A phenomenological analysis of the scalar glueball and scalar meson spectra is carried out by using the AdS/QCD framework in the bottom-up approach. The resulting spectra are in good agreement for glueballs with lattice QCD results and for mesons with PDG data. We make use of the relation between the mode functions in AdS/QCD and the wave functions in Light-Front $QCD$ to discuss the mixing of glueballs and mesons. The results of our investigation point out that above 2 GeV scalar particles will appear in almost degenerate pairs of unmixed glueball and mesons states leading to an interesting phenomenology whereby gluon dynamics could be well investigated.

A proton imagining via double parton scattering

In this contribution we discuss the main outcomes of our studies on the so called double parton distribution functions (dPDFs), accessible quantities in high energy proton-proton and proton nucleus collisions, in double parton scattering processes (DPS). These new distributions are almost unknown, nevertheless they encode information on how partons inside a proton are correlated among each other. Double PDFs represent a new tool to explore the three dimensional partonic structure of hadrons. Here, we show results obtained from calculations of dPFDs. In particular we focus our attention on the impact of double correlations in experimental observables by showing how the latter could be studied in the next LHC run. We also discuss how the present knowledge on a peculiar experimental observable could unveil new information on the transverse proton structure

Glueballs as gravitons in holographic approaches

In this contribution we present a a phenomenological analysis of the scalar glueball and scalar meson spectra within AdS/QCD models in the bottom-up approach. In particular, we consider a Light-Front QCD framework which allows to relate the AdS/QCD mode functions to the hadronic wave-functions. Such a procedure is here adopted to analyse the mixing between scalar mesons and glueballs.

AlN Combined Overtone Resonators for the 5G mmWave Spectrum

This work presents a new acoustic MEMS resonator technology, dubbed Aluminum Nitride (AlN) Combined Overtone Resonator (COR), capable of addressing the filter requirements for the 5G mmWave spectrum in the 6-40GHz range. The COR exploits the multimodal excitation of two higher-order Lamb waves (2nd and 3rd order Asymmetrical Lamb Waves) in a suspended thin-film AlN plate to transduce a 2-dimensional vibration mode with high electromechanical coupling coefficient kt2 (up to 1.9%) and quality factor Q >1100 at twice the frequency of a fundamental thickness-extensional mode in the same structure. Analytical and finite-element method (FEM) models are developed to describe the working principle of the COR technology and predict the achievable kt2, Q and lithographic frequency tunability. An 8.8 GHz COR prototype was fabricated showing a high kt2~0.3% (using a simple top-electrode-only configuration with a 2-mask process) and a groundbreaking Q~1100 which is the highest ever achieved among piezoelectric resonators above 6 GHz. The f-Q product ~1x10e13 is the highest among all demonstrated piezoelectric resonators with metallic coverage >50%. Additionally, the capability of the COR technology to deliver contiguous filters with bandwidths between 355 and 592 MHz (aggregated BW>2GHz) in the mmWave spectrum, with relaxed lithographic requirements, is demonstrated by FEM.

The proton structure via double parton scattering

In this talk we present the results of the investigation on the so called double parton distribution functions (dPDFs), accessible quantities in high energy proton-proton and proton nucleus collisions, in double parton scattering processes (DPS). These new and almost unknown distributions encode information on how partons inside a proton are correlated among each other and represent a new tool to explore the three dimensional partonic structure of hadrons. In the present contribution, results of the calculations of dPFDs are presented also including phenomenological investigations on the impact of double correlations in experimental observables, showing how the latter could be observed in the next LHC run. In addition we discuss how present information on experimental observables could be related to the transverse proton structure.

Double parton scattering and the proton transverse structure at the LHC

We consider double parton distribution functions (dPDFs), essential quantities in double parton scattering (DPS) studies, which encode novel non perturbative insight on the partonic proton structure. We develop the formalism to extract this information from dPDFs and present results by using constituent quark model calculations within the Light-Front approach, focusing on radiatively generated gluon dPDFs. Moreover, we generalize the relation between the mean transverse partonic distance between two active partons in a DPS process and the so called effective cross section to include partonic correlations and the so called 2v1 mechanism contribution. Finally we investigate the impact of relativistic effects on digluon distributions and study the structure of the corresponding longitudinal and transverse correlations.

Highly-Linear Magnet-Free Microelectromechanical Circulators

This paper reports the first demonstration of a magnet-free, high performance microelectromechanical system (MEMS) based circulator. An innovative circuit based on the commutation of MEMS resonators with high quality (Q) factor using RF switches is designed and implemented. Thanks to the high Q factor, a much smaller modulation frequency can be achieved compared to the previous demonstrations, reducing the power consumption and enabling the use of high power-handling switches. Furthermore, the MEMS resonators greatly reduce the required inductance value, guaranteeing much smaller form factor compared to the previous LC demonstrations. The demonstrated circulator shows broad BW (15 dB-IX BW=34.7 MHz for an operational frequency around 2.5 GHz), low IL (4 dB), high IX (30 dB), high linearity (P1dB=28 dBm; IIP3=40 dBm) and at the same time low power consumption, addressing several of the current limitations hindering the full development of magnet-free circulators.

Radio Frequency Magnet-free Circulators Based on Spatiotemporal Modulation of Surface Acoustic Wave Filters

In this paper, a new generation of magnet-free circulators with high performance is proposed. Circulators are crucial devices in modern communication systems due to their ability to enable full-duplexing and double the spectral efficiency directly in the physical layer of the radio-frequency (RF) front-end. Traditionally, Lorentz reciprocity is broken by applying magnetic bias to ferrite materials, therefore conventional circulators are bulky and expensive. In this paper, this problem is addressed by replacing the magnetic bias with periodic spatiotemporal modulation. Compared to previous works, the proposed circulator is constructed using surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters instead of transmission lines (TL), which reduces the modulation frequency by at least a factor of 20 and ensures ultra-low power consumption and high linearity. The miniaturized high quality (Q) factor SAW filters also lead to a low-loss non-reciprocal band with strong isolation (IX) and broad bandwidth (BW) on a chip scale, therefore addressing such limitations in previous magnet-free demonstrations. Furthermore, compared to the conventional differential circuit configuration, a novel quad configuration is developed, which doubles the intermodulation-free bandwidth.

Scalar and Tensor Glueballs as Gravitons

The bottom-up approach of the AdS/CFT correspondence leads to the study of field equations in an $AdS_5$ background and from their solutions to the determination of the hadronic mass spectrum. We extend the study to the equations of $AdS_5$ gravitons and determine from them the glueball spectrum. We propose an original presentation of the results which facilitates the comparison of the various models with the spectrum obtained by lattice QCD. This comparison allows to draw some phenomenological conclusions.

A model calculation of double parton distribution functions of the pion

Two-parton correlations in the pion are investigated in terms of double parton distribution functions. A Poincaré covariant Light-Front framework has been adopted. As non perturbative input, the pion wave function obtained within the so-called soft-wall AdS/QCD model has been used. Results show how novel dynamical information on the structure of the pion, not accessible through one-body parton distribution, are encoded in double parton distribution functions.

Hadronic structure from double parton scattering

In the present paper we consider the so-called effective cross section, a quantity which encodes the experimental knowledge on double parton scattering in hadronic collisions that has been accomulated so far. We show that the effective cross section, under some assumptions close to those adopted in its experimental extractions, can be used to obtain a range of mean transverse distance between an interacting parton pair in double parton scattering. Therefore we have proved that the effective cross section offers a way to access information on the hadronic structure.

Neutron Parton Structure And The Light-Front Spectral Function Of 3He

Semi-inclusive deep inelastic electron scattering off polarized 3He is studied in a non-relativistic framework, using a distorted spin-dependent spectral function for 3He to take care of the final state interaction between the observed pion and the remnant. A simple procedure is shown to be valuable for the extraction of Sivers and Collins asymmetries for the neutron fromthe corresponding asymmetries for 3He. To extend this study in a relativistic framework, a novel approach for a Poincaré covariant description of nuclear dynamics is presented, based on the light-front Hamiltonian dynamics. The key quantity is the light-front spectral function, where both normalization and momentum sum rule can be satisfied at the same time. Preliminary results are discussed for an initial analysis of the role of relativity in the EMC effect in 3He, and the generalization of the procedure for the extraction of neutron asymmetries within the light-front dynamics is outlined.

Light-Front Dynamics and the 3He Spectral Function

Two topics are presented. The first one is a novel approach for a Poincare' covariant description of nuclear dynamics based on light-front Hamiltonian dynamics. The key quantity is the light-front spectral function, where both normalization and momentum sum rule can be satisfied at the same time. Preliminary results are discussed for an initial analysis of the role of relativity in the EMC effect in 3He. A second issue, very challenging, is considered in a non-relativistic framework, namely a distorted spin-dependent spectral function for 3He in order to take care of the final state interaction between the observed pion and the remnant in semi-inclusive deep inelastic electron scattering off polarized 3He. The generalization of the analysis within the light-front dynamics is outlined.

Three--Dimensional parton structure of light nuclei

Two promising directions beyond inclusive deep inelastic scattering experiments, aimed at unveiling the three dimensional structure of the bound nucleon, are reviewed, considering in particular the $^3$He nucleus. The 3D structure in coordinate space can be accessed through deep exclusive processes, whose non-perturbative part is encoded in generalized parton distributions (GPDs). In this way, the distribution of partons in the transverse plane can be obtained. As an example, coherent deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) off $^3$He nuclei, important to access the neutron GPDs, will be discussed. In Impulse Approximation (IA), the sum of two GPDs of $^3$He, $H$ and $E$, at low momentum transfer, turns out to be dominated by the neutron contribution. Besides, a technique, able to take into account the nuclear effects included in the Impulse Approximation analysis, has been developed. The spin dependent GPD $\tilde H$ of $^3$He is also found to be largely dominated, at low momentum transfer, by the neutron contribution. Semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering processes access the momentum space 3D structure parameterized through transverse momentum dependent parton distributions. A distorted spin-dependent spectral function has been recently introduced for $^3$He, in a non-relativistic framework, to take care of the final state interaction between the observed pion and the remnant in semi-inclusive deep inelastic electron scattering off transversely polarized $^3$He. The calculation of the Sivers and Collins single spin asymmetries for $^3$He, and a straightforward procedure to effectively take into account nuclear dynamics and final state interactions, will be reviewed. The Light-front dynamics generalization of the analysis is also addressed.

Nucleon 3D structure from double parton scattering: a Light-Front quark model analysis

Double parton distribution functions (dPDFs) represent a tool to explore the 3D partonic structure of the proton. They can be measured in high energy proton-proton and proton nucleus collisions and encode information on how partons inside a proton are correlated among each other. dPFDs are studied here in the valence region by means of a constituent quark model scenario within the relativistic Light Front approach, where two particle correlations are present without any additional prescription. Furthermore, a study of the QCD evolution at high energy scale, of the model results, has been completed in order to compare our predictions with future data analyses. In closing, results on the evaluation of the so called σ_{eff} , crucial ingredient for the description of double parton scattering, where dPDFs can be accessed, are presented and discussed.
