Towards 3D CFT Cartography with the Stress Tensor Bootstrap

We present new numerical results on the space of local, unitary, parity-preserving conformal field theories (CFTs) in three dimensions from the stress tensor bootstrap. In bounds maximizing certain OPE coefficients, we find a plethora of sharp features, such as kinks and ridges, as a function of scaling dimensions. We show that some of these features correspond to known theories, but there are many others that are equally strong but do not match known CFTs. We argue that these features are robust to raising numerical order and could then correspond to numerous as yet unknown CFTs. We conclude in proposing a program of "CFT cartography": the systematic exploration of the landscape of CFTs without individual theory targets in mind.

Classifying GNY-like models

We perform a systematic classification of (2+1)d Gross--Neveu--Yukawa-like models built out of one or more 4-component Dirac fermions and $M$ scalar fields, which preserve an O($M$) symmetry rotating the scalars. We then identify the perturbative fixed points of these models in the $4-\epsilon$ expansion. Our classification highlights several targets for the conformal bootstrap and reveals a new fixed point with $M=3$, which we call the "orthogonal Heisenberg" CFT.

Bootstrapping the 3d Ising Stress Tensor

We compute observables of the critical 3d Ising model to high precision by applying the numerical conformal bootstrap to mixed correlators of the leading scalar operators $σ$ and $ε$, and the stress tensor $T_{μν}$. We obtain new precise determinations of scaling dimensions $(Δ_σ, Δ_ε) = (0.518148806(24), 1.41262528(29))$ as well as OPE coefficients involving $σ$, $ε$, and $T_{μν}$. We also describe several improvements made along the way to algorithms and software tools for the numerical bootstrap.

Bounding irrelevant operators in the 3d Gross-Neveu-Yukawa CFTs

We perform a numerical bootstrap study of scalar operators in the critical 3d Gross-Neveu-Yukawa models, a family of conformal field theories containing N Majorana fermions in the fundamental representation of an O(N) global symmetry. We compute rigorous bounds on the scaling dimensions of the next-to-lowest parity-even and parity-odd singlet scalars at N = 2, 4, and 8. All of these dimensions have lower bounds greater than 3, implying that there are only two relevant singlet scalars and placing constraints on the RG flow structure of these theories.

Efficient Fourier Basis Particle Simulation

The standard particle-in-cell algorithm suffers from grid heating. There exists a gridless alternative which bypasses the deposition step and calculates each Fourier mode of the charge density directly from the particle positions. We show that a gridless method can be computed efficiently through the use of an Unequally Spaced Fast Fourier Transform (USFFT) algorithm. After a spectral field solve, the forces on the particles are calculated via the inverse USFFT (a rapid solution of an approximate linear system). We provide one and two dimensional implementations of this algorithm with an asymptotic runtime of $O(N_p + N_m^D \log N_m^D)$ for each iteration, identical to the standard PIC algorithm (where $N_p$ is the number of particles and $N_m$ is the number of Fourier modes, and $D$ is the spatial dimensionality of the problem) We demonstrate superior energy conservation and reduced noise, as well as convergence of the energy conservation at small time steps.
