Computation of genus 2 Kleinian hyperelliptic functions via Richelot isogenies

In this work we propose an algorithm that numerically evaluates Kleinian hyperelliptic functions associated with a complex curve of genus 2. This algorithm is based upon constructing a sequence of curves with Richelot isogenous Jacobians and a recurrent procedures that reduces the calculation to a degenerate curve. As a part of mentioned algorithm we propose a method of choosing a Richelot isogenous curve (among 15 possibilities) that guarantees convergence of the equations of the curves and associated Kleinian functions of weight 2 under iterations.

Kleinian hyperelliptic funtions of weight 2 associated with curves of genus 2

We introduce a new collection of special functions associated to a complex curve of genus 2 similar to Kleinian hyperelliptic $σ$-function. These functions are related to weight 2 $θ$-functions in the same fashion as $σ$-function is related to the classical $θ$-function. A key feature of the introduced functions is the fact that they are well-defined for genus 2 algebraic curves without any restrictions (in particular it is not needed to assume that the curve has a Weierstrass point at infinity).

Accelerating Newton-Schulz Iteration for Orthogonalization via Chebyshev-type Polynomials

The problem of computing optimal orthogonal approximation to a given matrix has attracted growing interest in machine learning. Notable applications include the recent Muon optimizer or Riemannian optimization on the Stiefel manifold. Among existing approaches, the Newton-Schulz iteration has emerged as a particularly effective solution, as it relies solely on matrix multiplications and thus achieves high computational efficiency on GPU hardware. Despite its efficiency, the method has inherent limitations - its coefficients are fixed and thus not optimized for a given matrix. In this paper we address this issue by proposing a Chebyshev-optimized version of Newton-Schulz (CANS). Based on the Chebyshev's alternance theorem, we theoretically derive optimal coefficients for the 3-rd order Newton-Schulz iteration and apply a Remez algorithm to compute optimal higher-degree polynomials. We leverage these polynomials to construct controlled approximate orthogonalization schemes, which is of interest in deep learning applications. Practically, we demonstrate the method's effectiveness in two key applications: orthogonalization in the Muon optimizer, and providing an efficient retraction alternative for Riemannian optimization on the Stiefel manifold.

A Landen-type method for computation of Weierstrass functions

We establish a version of the Landen's transformation for Weierstrass functions and invariants that is applicable to general lattices in complex plane. Using it we present an effective method for computing Weierstrass functions, their periods, and elliptic integral in Weierstrass form given Weierstrass invariants $g_2$ and $g_3$ of an elliptic curve. Similarly to the classical Landen's method our algorithm has quadratic rate of convergence.

Estimates for the quantized tensor train ranks for the power functions

In this work we provide theoretical estimates for the ranks of the power functions $f(k) = k^{-α}$, $α>1$ in the quantized tensor train (QTT) format for $k = 1, 2, 3, \ldots, 2^{d}$. Such functions and their several generalizations (e.~g. $f(k) = k^{-α} \cdot e^{-λk}, λ> 0$) play an important role in studies of the asymptotic solutions of the aggregation-fragmentation kinetic equations. In order to support the constructed theory we verify the values of QTT-ranks of these functions in practice with the use of the TTSVD procedure and show an agreement between the numerical and analytical results.

On the optimal rank-1 approximation of matrices in the Chebyshev norm

The problem of low rank approximation is ubiquitous in science. Traditionally this problem is solved in unitary invariant norms such as Frobenius or spectral norm due to existence of efficient methods for building approximations. However, recent results reveal the potential of low rank approximations in Chebyshev norm, which naturally arises in many applications. In this paper we tackle the problem of building optimal rank-1 approximations in the Chebyshev norm. We investigate the properties of alternating minimization algorithm for building the low rank approximations and demonstrate how to use it to construct optimal rank-1 approximation. As a result we propose an algorithm that is capable of building optimal rank-1 approximations in Chebyshev norm for small matrices.

On the solution of a conformal mapping problem by means of Weierstrass functions

The conformal mapping problem for the section of a channel filled with porous material under a rectangular dam onto the upper half-plane is considered. Similar problems arise in computing of fluid flow in hydraulic structures. As a solution method, the representation of Christoffel-Schwartz elliptic integral in terms of Weierstrass functions is used. The calculation is based on Taylor series for the sigma function, the coefficients of which are determined recursively. A simple formula for a conformal mapping is obtained, which depends on four parameters and uses the sigma function. A numerical experiment was carried out for a specific area. The degeneration of the region, which consists in the dam width tending to zero, is considered, and it is shown that the resulting formula has a limit that implements the solution of the limiting problem. A refined proof of Weierstrass recursive formula for the coefficients of Taylor series of the sigma function is presented.
