Conditional GLMMs for reaction times in choice tasks

This study connects two methods for modeling reaction times (RTs) in choice tasks: (1) the first-hitting time of a simple diffusion model with a single barrier, representing the cognitive process leading to a response, and (2) Generalized Linear Mixed Models (GLMMs). We achieve this by analyzing RT distributions conditioned on each response alternative. Because certain diffusion model variants yield Inverse Gaussian (IG) and Gamma distributions for first-hitting times, we can justify using these distributions in RT models. Conversely, employing IG and Gamma distributions within GLMMs allows us to infer the underlying cognitive processes. We demonstrate this concept through simulations and apply it to previously published real-world data. Finally, we discuss the scope and potential extensions of our approach.

Age-structured stochastic populations under dynamic harvesters' behavior: well-posedness, asymptotic stability and numerically-amenable approximations

In this paper we study a model of age-structured ecological populations in continuous interaction with a community of harvesters. We propose an individual-based model for this feedback interactions and prove its convergence to a system of coupled stochastic differential equations. This limit process is complemented with socio-ecological and environmental factors. For the resulting system we establish well-posedness, positivity, and the non-attainability of extinction boundaries, together with its long-term behavior and numerical approximation, relying on ad-hoc arguments to handle the super-linear growth and non-Lipschitz coefficients. Finally, we illustrate some of our findings with numerical experiments.

Persistence and neutrality in interacting replicator dynamics

We study the large-time behavior of an ensemble of entities obeying replicator-like stochastic dynamics with mean-field interactions as a model for a primordial ecology. We prove the propagation-of-chaos property and establish conditions for the strong persistence of the $N$-replicator system and the existence of invariant distributions for a class of associated McKean-Vlasov dynamics. In particular, our results show that, unlike typical models of neutral ecology, fitness equivalence does not need to be assumed but emerges as a condition for the persistence of the system. Further, neutrality is associated with a unique Dirichlet invariant probability measure. We illustrate our findings with some simple case studies, provide numerical results, and discuss our conclusions in the light of Neutral Theory in ecology.
