Dynamical self-averaging for a lattice Schrödinger equation with weak random potential

We study the kinetic, weak coupling limit of the dynamics governed by a discrete random Schrödinger operator on $\mathbb{Z}^3$. For sequences of $\ell^2\left(\mathbb{Z}^3\right)$-bounded initial states and convergent initial Wigner transform, we prove that the scaled Wigner transform converges to the solution of a linear Boltzmann equation in $L^r\left(\mathbb{P}\right)$for all $r>0$, thus considerably strengthening a previous result by Chen. The key ingredients for the proof are a finer classification of graphs in the expansion of the perturbed dynamics as well as a novel resolvent estimate for the unperturbed Schrödinger operator. Under some additional assumption on the sequence of initial states we even prove almost sure convergence.

Existence of a unique strong solution to the DMPK equation

For the transmission of electrons in a weakly disordered strip of material Dorokhov, Mello, Pereyra and Kumar (DMPK) proposed a diffusion process for the transfer matrices. The correspoding transmission eigenvalues satisfy the DMPK stochastic differential equations, like Dyson Brownian motion in the context of GOE/GUE random matrices. We control the singular repulsion terms of this SDE with a stopping-time argument, and its degenerate initial condition by an approximation procedure, and thereby establish the DMPK equation to be well posed.

Disordered quantum wires: microscopic origins of the DMPK theory and Ohm's law

We study the electronic transport properties of the Anderson model on a strip, modeling a quasi one-dimensional disordered quantum wire. In the literature, the standard description of such wires is via random matrix theory (RMT). Our objective is to firmly relate this theory to a microscopic model. We correct and extend previous work (arXiv:0912.1574) on the same topic. In particular, we obtain through a physically motivated scaling limit an ensemble of random matrices that is close to, but not identical to the standard transfer matrix ensembles (sometimes called TOE, TUE), corresponding to the Dyson symmetry classes β=1,2. In the β=2 class, the resulting conductance is the same as the one from the ideal ensemble, i.e.\ from TUE. In the β=1 class, we find a deviation from TOE. It remains to be seen whether or not this deviation vanishes in a thick-wire limit, which is the experimentally relevant regime. For the ideal ensembles, we also prove Ohm's law for all symmetry classes, making mathematically precise a moment expansion by Mello and Stone. This proof bypasses the explicit but intricate solution methods that underlie most previous results.

Dynamical phase transition for a quantum particle source

We analyze the time evolution describing a quantum source for noninteracting particles, either bosons or fermions. The growth behaviour of the particle number (trace of the density matrix) is investigated, leading to spectral criteria for sublinear or linear growth in the fermionic case, but also establishing the possibility of exponential growth for bosons. We further study the local convergence of the density matrix in the long time limit and prove the semiclassical limit.
