A comparison of definitions of equivariant trees

We show that various categories of trees can be modeled by Grothendieck constructions on categories of trees with a fixed set of leaves. We prove this result for the dendroidal category $Ω$, the category $Ω^G$ of trees with a $G$-action for a finite group $G$, and finally for the category of genuine equivariant trees $Ω_G$ that has played an important role in recent work on genuine equivariant operads.

On the classifying space of a Morse flow category

We show that the classifying space of the flow category of a \emph{tame} Morse function on a smooth, closed manifold $M$ recovers the homotopy type of $M$, thereby addressing a claim in a preprint of Cohen--Jones--Segal. The tameness assumption is that the compactified moduli spaces of broken gradient trajectories are locally contractible, ensuring the flow category is topologically well-behaved. We construct a Morse function and Riemannian metric on $S^2\times S^1$ for which the associated flow category fails to recover the correct homotopy type, showing that the tameness hypothesis is crucial. Together, these results clarify the extent to which transversality assumptions can be relaxed so that the flow category models the homotopy type of the underlying manifold.

Squares K-theory and 2-Segal spaces

We define an $S_\bullet$-construction for squares categories, and introduce a class of squares categories we call "proto-Waldhausen" which capture the properties required for the $S_\bullet$-construction to model the K-theory space. The primary question we investigate is when the $S_\bullet$-construction of a squares category produces a 2-Segal space. We show that the answer to this question is affirmative when the squares category satisfies certain "stability" conditions.

Segal K-theory factors through Waldhausen categories

We show that Segal's K-theory of symmetric monoidal categorizes can be factored through Waldhausen categories. In particular, given a symmetric monoidal category $C$, we produce a Waldhausen category $Γ(C)$ whose K-theory is weakly equivalent to the Segal K-theory of $C$. As a consequence, we show that every connective spectrum may be obtained via Waldhausen K-theory.

Equivariant Trees and Partition Complexes

We introduce two definitions of $G$-equivariant partitions of a finite $G$-set, both of which yield $G$-equivariant partition complexes. By considering suitable notions of equivariant trees, we show that $G$-equivariant partitions and $G$-trees are $G$-homotopy equivalent, generalizing existing results for the non-equivariant setting. Along the way, we develop equivariant versions of Quillen's Theorems A and B, which are of independent interest.

Nested cobordisms, Cyl-objects and Temperley-Lieb algebras

We introduce a discrete cobordism category for nested manifolds and nested cobordisms between them. A variation of stratified Morse theory applies in this case, and yields generators for a general nested cobordism category. Restricting to a low-dimensional example of the ``striped cylinder'' cobordism category Cyl, we give a complete set of relations for the generators. With an eye towards the study of TQFTs defined on a nested cobordism category, we describe functors Cyl$\to\mathcal{C}$, which we call Cyl-objects in $\mathcal{C}$, and show that they are related to known algebraic structures such as Temperley-Lieb algebras and cyclic objects. We moreover define novel algebraic constructions inspired by the structure of Cyl-objects, namely a doubling construction on cyclic objects analogous to edgewise subdivision, and a cylindrical bar construction on self-dual objects in a monoidal category.
