Probing the Majorana nature of TeV-scale radiative seesaw models at the ILC

Two important features of TeV-scale radiative seesaw models, in which tiny neutrino masses are generated at the quantum level, are an extended scalar (Higgs) sector and the Majorana nature. We study phenomenological aspects of these models at the ILC. It is found that the Majorana nature of the models can be tested directly via the electron-positron and electron-electron collision experiments.

Probing the Majorana nature of TeV-scale radiative seesaw models at collider experiments

A general feature of TeV-scale radiative seesaw models, in which tiny neutrino masses are generated via loop corrections, is an extended scalar (Higgs) sector. Another feature is the Majorana nature; e.g., introducing right-handed neutrinos with TeV-scale Majorana masses under the discrete symmetry, or otherwise introducing some lepton number violating interactions in the scalar sector. We study phenomenological aspects of these models at collider experiments. We find that, while properties of the extended Higgs sector of these models can be explored to some extent, the Majorana nature of the models can also be tested directly at the International Linear Collider via the electron-positron and electron-electron collision experiments.

An R-parity conserving radiative neutrino mass model without right-handed neutrinos

The model proposed by A. Zee (1986) and K.S. Babu (1988) is a simple radiative seesaw model, in which tiny neutrino masses are generated at the two-loop level. We investigate a supersymmetric extension of the Zee-Babu model under R-parity conservation. The lightest superpartner particle can then be a dark matter candidate. We find that the neutrino data can be reproduced with satisfying current data from lepton flavour violation even in the scenario where not all the superpartner particles are heavy. Phenomenology at the Large Hadron Collider is also discussed.

Multi-Higgs portal dark matter under the CDMS II results

In a scenario of Higgs portal dark matter, Higgs exchange processes are essential for both dark matter annihilation in the early Universe and direct search experiments. The CDMS II collaboration has recently released their final results on direct dark matter searches. We study a scalar dark matter model with multi-Higgs doublets under the constraint from the CDMS II results and also from the WMAP data. We find that the possible maximal value for the branching ratio of the invisible decay of the Higgs boson can be significantly greater than that in the Higgs portal model with one Higgs doublet, in particular, for the case of the so-called Type-X Yukawa interaction. Therefore, the search for the invisible decay of the Higgs boson at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and future collider experiments would provide useful information not only for the nature of dark matter but also for the structure of the Higgs sector even without directly detecting any extra scalar boson.

A Model of TeV Scale Physics for Neutrino Mass, Dark Matter and Baryon Asymmetry and its Phenomenology

We discuss some details for the model proposed in Ref. \cite{aks-prl}, in which neutrino oscillation, dark matter, and baryon asymmetry of the Universe can be simultaneously explained by the TeV-scale physics without introducing very high mass scales. An exact discrete $Z_2$ symmetry is introduced, under which new particle contents (a real singlet scalar field, a pair of charged singlet scalar fields and TeV-scale right-handed neutrinos) are assigned to have odd quantum number, whereas ordinary gauge fields, quarks and leptons, and two Higgs doublets are even. Tiny neutrino masses are generated at the three loop level due to the exact $Z_2$ symmetry, by which stability of the dark matter candidate is also guaranteed. The extra Higgs doublet is required not only for the tiny neutrino masses but also for successful electroweak baryogenesis. We discuss phenomenological properties of the model, and find that there are successful scenarios in which above three problems are solved simultaneously under the constraint from current experimental data. We then discuss predictions in such scenarios at ongoing and future experiments. It turns out that the model provides discriminative predictions especially in Higgs physics and dark matter physics, so that it is testable in near future.

Models of Yukawa interaction in the two Higgs doublet model, and their collider phenomenology

Possible models of Yukawa interaction are discussed in the two Higgs doublet model (THDM) under the discrete symmetry imposed to avoid the flavor changing neutral current at the leading order. It is known that there are four types of such models corresponding to the possible different assignment of charges for the discrete symmetry on quarks and leptons. We first examine decay properties of Higgs bosons in each type of the models, and summarize constraints on the models from current experimental data. We then shed light on the differences among these models in collider phenomenology. In particular, we mainly discuss so-called the Type-II THDM and the Type-X THDM. The Type-II THDM corresponds to the model with the same Yukawa interaction as the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). On the other hand, in the Type-X THDM, additional Higgs bosons can predominantly decay into leptons. This scenario may be interesting because of the motivation for a light charged Higgs boson scenario such as in the TeV scale model of neutrino, dark matter and baryogenesis. We study how we can distinguish the Type-X THDM from the MSSM at the Large Hadron Collider and the International Linear Collider.

Lepton Flavour Violating Decays tau to lll and mu to e gamma in the Higgs Triplet Model

Singly and doubly charged Higgs bosons in the Higgs Triplet Model mediate the lepton flavour violating (LFV) decays tau to \bar{l}ll and mu to e gamma. The LFV decay rates are proportional to products of two triplet Yukawa couplings (h_{ij}) which can be expressed in terms of the parameters of the neutrino mass matrix and an unknown triplet vacuum expectation value. We determine the parameter space of the neutrino mass matrix in which a signal for tau to \bar{l}ll and/or mu to e gamma is possible at ongoing and planned experiments. The conditions for respecting the stringent upper limit for mu to eee are studied in detail, with emphasis given to the possibility of |h_{ee}|\simeq 0 which can only be realized if Majorana phases are present.

A TeV scale model for neutrino mass, dark matter and baryon asymmetry

We discuss a TeV scale model which would explain neutrino oscillation, dark matter, and baryon asymmetry of the Universe simultaneously by the dynamics of the extended Higgs sector and TeV-scale right-handed neutrinos with imposed an exact $Z_2$ symmetry. Tiny neutrino masses are generated at the three loop level, a singlet scalar field is a candidate of dark matter, and a strong first order phase transition is realized for successful electroweak baryogenesis. The model provides various discriminative predictions, so that it is testable at the current and future experiments.

An extended Higgs sector for neutrino mass, dark matter and baryon asymmetry

In this talk, we discuss a TeV scale model which would explain neutrino oscillation, dark matter, and baryon asymmetry of the Universe simultaneously by the dynamics of the extended Higgs sector and TeV-scale right-handed neutrinos. By the imposed exact $Z_2$ symmetry, tiny neutrino masses are generated at the three loop level, and the stability of the dark matter candidate, an additional singlet scalar field, is guaranteed. The extra Higgs doublet is introduced not only for neutrino masses but also for successful electroweak baryogenesis. The model provides various discriminative predictions in Higgs phenomenology, which can be tested at the Large Hadron Collider and the International Linear Collider.

Neutrino mass, Dark Matter and Baryon Asymmetry via TeV-Scale Physics without Fine-Tuning

We propose an extended version of the standard model, in which neutrino oscillation, dark matter, and baryon asymmetry of the Universe can be simultaneously explained by the TeV-scale physics without assuming unnatural hierarchy among the mass scales. Tiny neutrino masses are generated at the three loop level due to the exact $Z_2$ symmetry, by which stability of the dark matter candidate is guaranteed. The extra Higgs doublet is required not only for the tiny neutrino masses but also for successful electroweak baryogenesis. The model provides discriminative predictions especially in Higgs phenomenology, so that it is testable at current and future collider experiments.

Unitarity bounds in the Higgs model including triplet fields with custodial symmetry

We study bounds on Higgs boson masses from perturbative unitarity in the Georgi-Machacek model, whose Higgs sector is composed of a scalar isospin doublet, a real and a complex isospin triplet fields. This model can be compatible with the electroweak precision data without fine tuning because of the imposed global SU(2)_R symmetry in the Higgs potential, by which the electroweak rho parameter is unity at the tree level. All possible two-body elastic-scattering channels are taken into account to evaluate the S-wave amplitude matrix, and then the condition of perturbative unitarity is imposed on the eigenvalues to obtain constraint on the Higgs parameters. Masses of all scalar bosons turn out to be bounded from above, some of which receive more strict upper bounds as compared to that in the standard model (712 GeV). In particular, the upper bound of the lightest scalar boson, whatever it would be, is about 270 GeV.

Probing Majorana Phases and Neutrino Mass Spectrum in the Higgs Triplet Model at the LHC

Doubly charged Higgs bosons (H^++) are a distinctive signature of the Higgs Triplet Model of neutrino mass generation. If H^++ is relatively light (m_{H^++} < 400GeV) it will be produced copiously at the LHC, which could enable precise measurements of the branching ratios of the decay channels H^++ to l_i l_j. Such branching ratios are determined solely by the neutrino mass matrix which allows the model to be tested at the LHC. We quantify the dependence of the leptonic branching ratios on the absolute neutrino mass and Majorana phases, and present the permitted values for the channels ee, emu and mumu. It is shown that precise measurements of these three branching ratios are sufficient to extract information on the neutrino mass spectrum and probe the presence of CP violation from Majorana phases.

Lepton Flavour Violating tau Decays in the Left-Right Symmetric Model

The Left-Right symmetric extension of the Standard Model with Higgs isospin triplets can provide neutrino masses via a TeV scale seesaw mechanism. The doubly charged Higgs bosons H^{\pm\pm}_L and H^{\pm\pm}_R induce lepton flavour violating decays τ^\pm \to lll at tree-level via a coupling which is related to the Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata matrix (V_{\rm MNS}). We study the magnitude and correlation of τ^\pm \to lll and μ\to eγwith specific assumptions for the origin of the large mixing in V_{\rm MNS} while respecting the stringent bound for μ\to eee. It is also shown that an angular asymmetry for τ^\pm \to lll is sensitive to the relative strength of the H^{\pm\pm}_L and H^{\pm\pm}_R mediated contributions and provides a means of distinguishing models with doubly charged Higgs bosons.

Tau polarization effects in the CNGS tau-neutrino appearance experiments

We studied tau polarization effects on the decay distributions of tau produced in the CNGS tau-neutrino appearance experiments. We show that energy and angular distributions for the decay products in the laboratory frame are significantly affected by the tau polarization. Rather strong azimuthal asymmetry about the tau momentum axis is predicted, which may have observable consequences in experiments even with small statistics.

Single and Pair Production of Doubly Charged Higgs Bosons at Hadron Colliders

Current searches for doubly charged Higgs bosons (H^{\pm\pm}) at the Fermilab Tevatron are sensitive to single production of H^{\pm\pm}, although the pair production mechanism q\bar q\to H^{++}H^{--} is assumed to be dominant. In the context of a Higgs Triplet Model we study the mechanism q'\bar q\to H^{\pm\pm}H^{\mp} at the Tevatron and CERN Large Hadron Collider, and show that its inclusion can significantly improve the search potential for H^{\pm\pm}. Moreover, assuming that the neutrino mass is generated solely by the triplet field Yukawa coupling to leptons, we compare the branching ratios of H^{\pm\pm}\to l^\pm l^\pm and H^{\pm\pm}\to H^\pm W^* for the cases of a normal hierarchical, inverted hierarchical and degenerate neutrino mass spectrum.

The Decay of Tau Leptons Produced in Neutrino-Nucleon Scatterings

Energy and angular distributions of the tau decay products in the CERN-to-Gran Sasso $ν_τ$ appearance experiments are studied for the decay modes $τ\toπν$ and $τ\to l\barνν$ (l=e or mu). We find that the decay particle distributions in the laboratory frame are significantly affected by the tau polarization. Rather strong azimuthal asymmetry of $pi^-$ and $l^-$ about the tau momentum axis is predicted, which may have observable consequences even at small statistics experiments.

Lifting degeneracies in the oscillation parameters by a neutrino factory

We study the potential of a very long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment with a neutrino factory and a large segmented water-Cerenkov calorimeter detector in resolving the degeneracies in the neutrino oscillation parameters; the sign of the larger mass-squared difference $δm^2_{13}$, the sign of $|U_{μ3}|^2 (\equiv \sin^2θ_{ATM)-1/2$, and a possible two-fold ambiguity in the determination of the CP phase $δ_{MNS}$. We find that the above problems can be resolved even if the particle charges are not measured. The following results are obtained in our exploratory study for a neutrino factory which delivers $10^{21}$ decaying $μ^+$ and $μ^-$ at 10 GeV and a 100 kton detector which is placed 2,100 km away and is capable of measuring the event energy and distinguishing $e^\pm$ from $μ^\pm$, but not their charges. The sign of $δm^2_{13}$ can be determined for $4|U_{e3}|^2(1-|U_{e3}|^2)\equiv \sin^22θ_{RCT}\gsim 0.008$. That of $\sin^2θ_{ATM}-1/2$ can be resolved for $\sin^22θ_{ATM}=0.96$ when $\sin^22θ_{RCT}\gsim 0.06$. The CP-violating phase $δ_{MNS}$ can be uniquely constrained for $\sin^22θ_{RCT}\gsim 0.02$ if its true value is around $90^\circ$ or $270^\circ$, while it can be constrained for $\sin^22θ_{RCT}\gsim 0.03$ if its true value is around $0^\circ$ or $180^\circ$.
