Linear perturbations of low angular momentum accretion flow in the Kerr metric and the corresponding emergent gravity phenomena

For certain geometric configuration of matter falling onto a rotating black hole, we develop a novel linear perturbation analysis scheme to perform the stability analysis of stationary integral accretion solutions corresponding to the steady state low angular momentum, inviscid, barotropic, irrotational, general relativistic accretion of hydrodynamic fluid. We demonstrate that such steady states remain stable under linear perturbation, and hence the stationary solutions are reliable to probe the black hole spacetime using the accretion phenomena. We report that a relativistic acoustic geometry emerges out as the consequence of such stability analysis procedure. We study various properties of that sonic geometry in detail. We construct the causal structures to establish the one to one correspondences of the sonic points with the acoustic black hole horizons, and the shock location with an acoustic white hole horizon. The influence of the spin of the rotating black holes on the emergence of such acoustic spacetime has been discussed.

Effective sound speed in relativistic accretion discs around Schwarzschild black holes

For low angular momentum axially symmetric accretion flow maintained in hydrostatic equilibrium along the vertical direction, the value of the Mach number at the critical points deviates from unity, resulting in the non-isomorphism of the critical and the sonic points. This introduces several undesirable complexities while analytically dealing with the stationary integral accretion solutions and the corresponding phase portraits. We propose that introduction of an effective dynamical sound speed may resolve the issue in an elegant way. We linear perturb the full spacetime-dependent general relativistic Euler and the continuity equations governing the structure and the dynamics of accretion disc in vertical equilibrium around Schwarzschild black holes and identify the sonic metric embedded within the stationary background flow. Such metric describes the propagation of the linear acoustic perturbation inside the accretion flow. We construct the wave equation corresponding to that acoustic perturbation and find the speed of propagation of such perturbation. We finally show that the ordinary thermodynamic sound speed should be substituted by the speed of propagation of the linear acoustic wave which has been obtained through the dynamical perturbation. Such substitution will make the value of Mach number at the critical point to be equal to unity. Use of the aforementioned effective sound speed will lead to a modified stationary disc structure where the critical and the sonic points will be identical.

Nonlinear variations in spherically symmetric accretion in the Schwarzschild metric

In this work, we study the implications of nonlinearity in general relativistic spherically symmetric inviscid irrotational accretion flow in a stationary non-rotating spacetime. It has been found that the perturbation scheme leads to a differential equation of the form of general Li{é}nard's equation. We discuss the equilibrium conditions of this system and its implications for globally subsonic accretion flows in the spherically symmetric stationary background. It is found that the stable solution predicted by linear stability analysis may become unstable under inclusion of lowest order nonlinearity.

Acoustic geometry obtained through the perturbation of the Bernoulli's constant

For accretion onto astrophysical black holes, we demonstrate that linear perturbation of Bernoulli's constant defined for an inviscid irrotational adiabatic flow of perfect ideal fluid gives rise to phenomena of analogue gravity. The formulation of our work is done in the Newtonian framework and also within the General relativistic framework, i.e., considering a static spacetime background, as well. The resulting structure of the analogue acoustic metric is similar to the acoustic metric found in perturbing velocity potential and mass accretion rate.

Relativistic sonic geometry for isothermal accretion in the Kerr metric

We linearly perturb advective isothermal transonic accretion onto rotating astrophysical black holes to study the emergence of the relativistic acoustic spacetime and to investigate how the salient features of such spacetime get influenced by the spin angular momentum of the black hole. We have perturbed three different quantities - the velocity potential, the mass accretion rate and the relativistic Bernoulli's constant to show that the acoustic metric obtained for these three cases are same up to a conformal factor. By constructing the required causal structures, it has been demonstrated that the acoustic black holes are formed at the transonic points of the flow and acoustic white holes are formed at the shock location. The corresponding acoustic surface gravity has been computed in terms of the relevant accretion variables and the background metric elements. The linear stability analysis of the background stationary flow has been performed.

Charged wormholes supported by 2-fluid immiscible matter particles

We provide a 2-fluid immiscible matter source that supplies fuel to construct wormhole spacetime. The exact wormhole solutions are found in the model having, besides real matter or ordinary matter, some quintessence matter along with charge distribution. We intend to derive a general metric of a charged wormhole under some density profiles of galaxies that is also consistent with the observational profile of rotation curve of galaxies. We have shown that the effective mass remains positive as well as the wormhole physics violate the null energy conditions. Some physical features are briefly discussed.

Relativistic sonic geometry for isothermal accretion in the Schwarzschild metric

In this work, we perform linear perturbation on general relativistic isothermal accretion onto a non-rotating astrophysical black hole to study the salient features of the corresponding emergent acoustic metric. For spherically symmetric accretion as well as for the axially symmetric matter flow for three different geometric configuration of matter, we perturb the velocity potential, the mass accretion rate, and the integral solution of the time independent part of the general relativistic Euler equation to obtain such acoustic geometry. We provide the procedure to locate the acoustic horizon and identify such horizon with the transonic surfaces of the accreting matter through the construction of the corresponding causal structures. We then discuss how one can compute the value of the acoustic surface gravity in terms of the accretion variable corresponding to the background flow solutions - i.e., stationary integral transonic accretion solutions for different matter geometries. We show that the salient features of the acoustic geometry is independent of the physical variable we perturb, but sensitively depends on the geometric configuration of the black hole accretion disc.
