Beyond Maintenance Manual Multimodal RAG: Suggesting What Tool

Aircraft technicians are required to consult the maintenance manual (MM) for nearly every task, and locating the relevant procedure across hundreds of pages remains time-consuming. Multimodal retrieval augmented generation (MRAG) has been proposed to address this, allowing technicians to retrieve procedures, together with the accompanying figures, through natural-language queries. However, retrieval alone does not tell the technicians which tools the task requires. The MM identifies special tools only when the corresponding step is reached, and it does not state hand tool requirements at all; to select hand tools, technicians are required to find the hardware dimension from the illustrated parts catalog (IPC) and infer the right tool from it. We therefore propose MRAG-SWAT, an extension of the MRAG pipeline that returns the required hand tools and special tools alongside the retrieved procedure. The framework was implemented for the Lycoming IO-360-N1A engine and demonstrated on eight test queries. By presenting the correct tools together with the procedure, MRAG-SWAT may help reduce repeated trips to the tool crib, prevent damage to aircraft caused by improper tool selection, and thereby avoid additional maintenance tasks and support continued airworthiness.

A Deep Learning-Based Stacking Ensemble Framework for Turbofan Engine Remaining Useful Life Prediction

This study proposes a two-level stacking ensemble framework for Remaining Useful Life (RUL) prediction of turbofan engines, evaluated on the NASA C-MAPSS benchmark using the FD001 and FD003 subsets. The framework integrates four heterogeneous deep learning base learners: Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), CNN-LSTM, and CNN-GRU, whose out-of-fold predictions are combined by an XGBoost meta-learner to capture complex degradation patterns while mitigating individual model biases. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that the stacking ensemble achieves superior predictive performance, with Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 9.989 and 8.613, Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 7.081 and 5.195, and R-squared values of 0.899 and 0.906 for FD001 and FD003, respectively. Compared to the best-reported baseline (TCAT: RMSE 11.12 and 11.02), the proposed method achieves RMSE reductions of 10.2 percent and 21.8 percent for FD001 and FD003, respectively. Feature correlation analysis, residual diagnostics, and training convergence curves validate the model's robustness. These findings underscore the efficacy of stacking ensemble methods for prognostics and health management in safety-critical aerospace applications.

Reducing Technician Search Burden: A Multimodal RAG for Cessna 172 Maintenance Manual

Proper use of the aircraft maintenance manual is essential for correct maintenance, providing procedures, diagrams, cautions, and specifications. However, technicians often avoid consulting it because it is difficult to navigate and time-consuming under strict schedules. Retrieval augmented generation (RAG) models have recently been introduced in aircraft maintenance, yet existing models focus solely on textual retrieval. This research therefore targeted the Cessna 172 Maintenance Manual (C172-MM), widely used in general aviation, and developed a multimodal manual retriever (MMR) capable of retrieving multimodal manual pages. Retrieval performance was evaluated using synthetic queries covering procedures, diagrams, caution/safety information, and specifications; the MMR achieved 93.37% recall@5. Beyond retrieval, a multimodal RAG (MRAG) pipeline was examined, in which retrieved pages were input to a vision-language model that generated responses to the synthetic queries, achieving 87.20% semantic similarity to ground-truth answers. Three practical feasibilities were also assessed: inference time, operational cost, and interpretability. Average retrieval time for five pages was 11.93 seconds and response generation took 4.95 seconds, at $0.0091 per query, while interpretability was validated through heatmap visualizations. These results indicate that the MRAG pipeline for the C172-MM can reduce the time technicians spend searching manuals and retrieving multimodal information.

Predictive Analytics for Dementia: Machine Learning on Healthcare Data

Dementia is a complex syndrome impacting cognitive and emotional functions, with Alzheimer's disease being the most common form. This study focuses on enhancing dementia prediction using machine learning (ML) techniques on patient health data. Supervised learning algorithms are applied in this study, including K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Quadratic Discriminant Analysis (QDA), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), and Gaussian Process Classifiers. To address class imbalance and improve model performance, techniques such as Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) and Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) vectorization were employed. Among the models, LDA achieved the highest testing accuracy of 98%. This study highlights the importance of model interpretability and the correlation of dementia with features such as the presence of the APOE-epsilon4 allele and chronic conditions like diabetes. This research advocates for future ML innovations, particularly in integrating explainable AI approaches, to further improve predictive capabilities in dementia care.

Oitijjo-3D: Generative AI Framework for Rapid 3D Heritage Reconstruction from Street View Imagery

Cultural heritage restoration in Bangladesh faces a dual challenge of limited resources and scarce technical expertise. Traditional 3D digitization methods, such as photogrammetry or LiDAR scanning, require expensive hardware, expert operators, and extensive on-site access, which are often infeasible in developing contexts. As a result, many of Bangladesh's architectural treasures, from the Paharpur Buddhist Monastery to Ahsan Manzil, remain vulnerable to decay and inaccessible in digital form. This paper introduces Oitijjo-3D, a cost-free generative AI framework that democratizes 3D cultural preservation. By using publicly available Google Street View imagery, Oitijjo-3D reconstructs faithful 3D models of heritage structures through a two-stage pipeline - multimodal visual reasoning with Gemini 2.5 Flash Image for structure-texture synthesis, and neural image-to-3D generation through Hexagen for geometry recovery. The system produces photorealistic, metrically coherent reconstructions in seconds, achieving significant speedups compared to conventional Structure-from-Motion pipelines, without requiring any specialized hardware or expert supervision. Experiments on landmarks such as Ahsan Manzil, Choto Sona Mosque, and Paharpur demonstrate that Oitijjo-3D preserves both visual and structural fidelity while drastically lowering economic and technical barriers. By turning open imagery into digital heritage, this work reframes preservation as a community-driven, AI-assisted act of cultural continuity for resource-limited nations.

CAGN-GAT Fusion: A Hybrid Contrastive Attentive Graph Neural Network for Network Intrusion Detection

Cybersecurity threats are growing, making network intrusion detection essential. Traditional machine learning models remain effective in resource-limited environments due to their efficiency, requiring fewer parameters and less computational time. However, handling short and highly imbalanced datasets remains challenging. In this study, we propose the fusion of a Contrastive Attentive Graph Network and Graph Attention Network (CAGN-GAT Fusion) and benchmark it against 15 other models, including both Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and traditional ML models. Our evaluation is conducted on four benchmark datasets (KDD-CUP-1999, NSL-KDD, UNSW-NB15, and CICIDS2017) using a short and proportionally imbalanced dataset with a constant size of 5000 samples to ensure fairness in comparison. Results show that CAGN-GAT Fusion demonstrates stable and competitive accuracy, recall, and F1-score, even though it does not achieve the highest performance in every dataset. Our analysis also highlights the impact of adaptive graph construction techniques, including small changes in connections (edge perturbation) and selective hiding of features (feature masking), improving detection performance. The findings confirm that GNNs, particularly CAGN-GAT Fusion, are robust and computationally efficient, making them well-suited for resource-constrained environments. Future work will explore GraphSAGE layers and multiview graph construction techniques to further enhance adaptability and detection accuracy.

A hybrid transformer and attention based recurrent neural network for robust and interpretable sentiment analysis of tweets

Sentiment analysis is crucial for understanding public opinion and consumer behavior. Existing models face challenges with linguistic diversity, generalizability, and explainability. We propose TRABSA, a hybrid framework integrating transformer-based architectures, attention mechanisms, and BiLSTM networks to address this. Leveraging RoBERTa-trained on 124M tweets, we bridge gaps in sentiment analysis benchmarks, ensuring state-of-the-art accuracy. Augmenting datasets with tweets from 32 countries and US states, we compare six word-embedding techniques and three lexicon-based labeling techniques, selecting the best for optimal sentiment analysis. TRABSA outperforms traditional ML and deep learning models with 94% accuracy and significant precision, recall, and F1-score gains. Evaluation across diverse datasets demonstrates consistent superiority and generalizability. SHAP and LIME analyses enhance interpretability, improving confidence in predictions. Our study facilitates pandemic resource management, aiding resource planning, policy formation, and vaccination tactics.
