Black string surrounded by a static anisotropic quintessence fluid

A black string is a solution of the four-dimensional general relativity in cylindrical symmetric anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime pioneered by Lemos [6]. We obtain an exact rotating black string surrounded by quintessence matter in anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime and analyze its properties. The solution has an additional parameter $N_q$ due to background quintessence matter and it also depends on quintessence state parameter $w_q$. Our rotating solution encompasses the Lemos black string \cite{Lemos:1994xp}, which can be recovered in the absence of background matter ($N_q=0$). The special case of rotating charged black string ($w_q=1/3$) has both Cauchy and event horizons. We find that thermodynamic quantities mass, temperature, entropy and heat capacity get corrected due to quintessence background. The counterterm method is utilized to calculate the associated conserved quantities to conclude that the first law of thermodynamics is satisfied. The cloud of strings background ($w_q= -1/3$) has been included as a special case.

Shadow of rotating charged black hole with Weyl corrections

We construct theoretical investigation of the black hole shadow for rotating charged black hole in an asymptotically flat, axisymmetric, and stationary spacetime with Weyl corrections. This spacetime is characterized by mass ($M$), charge parameter ($q$), rotation parameter ($a$), and Weyl coupling constant ($α$). We derive photon geodesics around the black hole and compute expressions for impact parameters with the help of photon spherical orbits conditions. We show how the presence of coupling constant $α$ affects the shapes of black hole shadow from the usual Kerr-Newman black hole. A comparison with the standard Kerr and Kerr-Newman black hole is also include to observe the potential deviation from them. We find that the radius of black hole shadow decreases and the distortion in the shape of shadow increases with an increase in charge $q$ for both positive and negative values of coupling constant $α$. We further extend our study by considering the plasma environment around the black hole and find out the essential expressions for the black hole shadow.

2D sub-half-wavelength atom localization in a three-level V-type atomic system

It is shown, using density matrix calculation, that high precision two-dimensional (2D) atom localization in V-type system can be achieved by applying an additional microwave coupling field between the excited states. In the present scheme, two lasers, probe and pump, form a V-type system by coupling the ground state to the excited states while an additional 2D standing microwave field is used to couple the excited states. The solutions of the density matrix equations reveal that the off-diagonal density matrix element $ρ_{31}$, which signify the coherence between the states connected by the probe laser, is position dependent. As the imaginary part of $ρ_{31}$ is proportional to the imaginary part of the susceptibility, the probe absorption also becomes position dependent and in this situation one can readily obtain information about the atom position from the probe absorption spectra. Perfect 2D atom localization can be achieved by carefully selecting different system parameters such as detuning, relative phase, dephasing and field strength. It is found that the atom localization is highly dependent on the probe and coupling field detuning values. In view of this, a systematic study is performed on the system parameters and different zones have been identified which give rise to different absorption shapes, e.g. "dip", "wall", "peak" as well as negative absorption or amplification. Probe absorption spectrum is also found to be dependent on relative phase between the applied fields. The dependence of the dephasing parameter on the probe absorption is investigated and found to be detrimental to atom localization. The effect of the microwave coupling strength on "wall" type absorption shape is also studied and the results are discussed. Finally, a possible practical realization of the present scheme is discussed in Conclusion section.

Light bending, static dark energy and related uniqueness of Schwarzschild-de Sitter spacetime

Since the Schwarzschild-de Sitter spacetime is static inside the cosmological event horizon, if the dark energy state parameter is sufficiently close to $-1$, apparently one could still expect an effectively static geometry, in the attraction dominated region inside the maximum turn around radius, $R_{\rm TA, max}$, of a cosmic structure. We take the first order metric derived recently assuming a static and ideal dark energy fluid with equation of state $P(r)=αρ(r)$ as a source in Ref. [1], which reproduced the expression for $R_{\rm TA, max}$ found earlier in the cosmological McVittie spacetime. Here we show that the equality originates from the equivalence of geodesic motion in these two backgrounds, in the non-relativistic regime. We extend this metric up to the third order and compute the bending of light using the Rindler-Ishak method. For $ α\neq -1$, a dark energy dependent term appears in the bending equation, unlike the case of the cosmological constant, $α=-1$. Due to this new term in particular, existing data for the light bending at galactic scales yields, $(1+α)\lesssim {\cal O}(10^{-14})$, thereby practically ruling out any such static and inhomogeneous dark energy fluid we started with. Implication of this result pertaining the uniqueness of the Schwarzschild-de Sitter spacetime in such inhomogeneous dark energy background is discussed.

Noncommutative geometry inspired rotating black string

Noncommutativity is an idea dating back to the early times of Quantum Mechanics and that string theory induced noncommutative (NC) geometry which provides an effective framework to study short distance spacetime dynamics. Also, string theory, a candidate for a consistent quantum theory of gravity, admits a variety of classical black hole solutions including black strings. In this paper, we study a NC geometry inspired rotating black string to cylindrical spacetime with a source given by a Gaussian distribution of mass. The resulting metric is a regular, i.e. curvature-singularity free, rotating black string, that in large $r$ limit interpolates Lemos \cite{lemos96} black string. Thermodynamical properties of the black strings are also investigated and exact expressions for the temperature, the entropy and the heat capacity are obtained. Owing to the NC correction in the solution, the thermodynamic quantities have been also modified and that the NC geometry inspired black string is always thermodynamically stable.
