A Lightweight CNN Integrated Compact Convolutional Transformer for Multi-Scale Feature Learning and reducing computational complexity for breast cancer mammography image detection and classification

Over the years, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have demonstrated strong capability in cancer detection and classification using medical images. However, CNN-based models often struggle to capture long-range contextual dependencies. In such scenarios, integrating Compact Convolutional Transformer (CCT) architectures after the CCT layer allows CNN-extracted features to reshape into compact patch tokens using a CCT tokenizer, followed by the addition of positional embeddings to preserve spatial structure. Using 5-fold cross-validation, the model was tested on 3 sets of breast cancer mammography. With only 250,435 parameters, the model achieved 99%-100% accuracy across 3 datasets, indicating robust generalization. Explainable AI (XAI) was integrated into the model to explain the breast cancer classification process to enhance clinical trust. The results indicate that the proposed framework is suitable for computer-aided diagnosis systems, particularly in resource-constrained clinical environments. The novelty of the proposed CNN-integrated CCT overcomes the limitation of CNN's gradient degradation in the last layers by integrating convolutional tokenization with transformer-based learning. Lighter than ViT, which is effective in capturing long-range dependencies, the model has also proven efficient in breast cancer classification by capturing long-range dependencies among breast tissue regions.

A study on Deep Convolutional Neural Networks, transfer learning, and Mnet model for Cervical Cancer Detection

Early and accurate detection through Pap smear analysis is critical to improving patient outcomes and reducing mortality of Cervical cancer. State-of-the-art (SOTA) Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) require substantial computational resources, extended training time, and large datasets. In this study, a lightweight CNN model, S-Net (Simple Net), is developed specifically for cervical cancer detection and classification using Pap smear images to address these limitations. Alongside S-Net, six SOTA CNNs were evaluated using transfer learning, including multi-path (DenseNet201, ResNet152), depth-based (Serasnet152), width-based multi-connection (Xception), depth-wise separable convolutions (MobileNetV2), and spatial exploitation-based (VGG19). All models, including S-Net, achieved comparable accuracy, with S-Net reaching 99.99%. However, S-Net significantly outperforms the SOTA CNNs in terms of computational efficiency and inference time, making it a more practical choice for real-time and resource-constrained applications. A major limitation in CNN-based medical diagnosis remains the lack of transparency in the decision-making process. To address this, Explainable AI (XAI) techniques, such as SHAP, LIME, and Grad-CAM, were employed to visualize and interpret the key image regions influencing model predictions. The novelty of this study lies in the development of a highly accurate yet computationally lightweight model (S-Net) caPable of rapid inference while maintaining interpretability through XAI integration. Furthermore, this work analyzes the behavior of SOTA CNNs, investigates the effects of negative transfer learning on Pap smear images, and examines pixel intensity patterns in correctly and incorrectly classified samples.

R-Net: A Reliable and Resource-Efficient CNN for Colorectal Cancer Detection with XAI Integration

State-of-the-art (SOTA) Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are criticized for their extensive computational power, long training times, and large datasets. To overcome this limitation, we propose a reasonable network (R-Net), a lightweight CNN only to detect and classify colorectal cancer (CRC) using the Enteroscope Biopsy Histopathological Hematoxylin and Eosin Image Dataset (EBHI). Furthermore, six SOTA CNNs, including Multipath-based CNNs (DenseNet121, ResNet50), Depth-based CNNs (InceptionV3), width-based multi-connection CNNs (Xception), depth-wise separable convolutions (MobileNetV2), spatial exploitation-based CNNs (VGG16), Transfer learning, and two ensemble models are also tested on the same dataset. The ensemble models are a multipath-depth-width combination (DenseNet121-InceptionV3-Xception) and a multipath-depth-spatial combination (ResNet18-InceptionV3-VGG16). However, the proposed R-Net lightweight achieved 99.37% accuracy, outperforming MobileNet (95.83%) and ResNet50 (96.94%). Most importantly, to understand the decision-making of R-Net, Explainable AI such as SHAP, LIME, and Grad-CAM are integrated to visualize which parts of the EBHI image contribute to the detection and classification process of R-Net. The main novelty of this research lies in building a reliable, lightweight CNN R-Net that requires fewer computing resources yet maintains strong prediction results. SOTA CNNs, transfer learning, and ensemble models also extend our knowledge on CRC classification and detection. XAI functionality and the impact of pixel intensity on correct and incorrect classification images are also some novelties in CRC detection and classification.

DVS: Blood cancer detection using novel CNN-based ensemble approach

Blood cancer can only be diagnosed properly if it is detected early. Each year, more than 1.24 million new cases of blood cancer are reported worldwide. There are about 6,000 cancers worldwide due to this disease. The importance of cancer detection and classification has prompted researchers to evaluate Deep Convolutional Neural Networks for the purpose of classifying blood cancers. The objective of this research is to conduct an in-depth investigation of the efficacy and suitability of modern Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architectures for the detection and classification of blood malignancies. The study focuses on investigating the potential of Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (D-CNNs), comprising not only the foundational CNN models but also those improved through transfer learning methods and incorporated into ensemble strategies, to detect diverse forms of blood cancer with a high degree of accuracy. This paper provides a comprehensive investigation into five deep learning architectures derived from CNNs. These models, namely VGG19, ResNet152v2, SEresNet152, ResNet101, and DenseNet201, integrate ensemble learning techniques with transfer learning strategies. A comparison of DenseNet201 (98.08%), VGG19 (96.94%), and SEresNet152 (90.93%) shows that DVS outperforms CNN. With transfer learning, DenseNet201 had 95.00% accuracy, VGG19 had 72.29%, and SEresNet152 had 94.16%. In the study, the ensemble DVS model achieved 98.76% accuracy. Based on our study, the ensemble DVS model is the best for detecting and classifying blood cancers.

A comprehensive study on Blood Cancer detection and classification using Convolutional Neural Network

Over the years in object detection several efficient Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) networks, such as DenseNet201, InceptionV3, ResNet152v2, SEresNet152, VGG19, Xception gained significant attention due to their performance. Moreover, CNN paradigms have expanded to transfer learning and ensemble models from original CNN architectures. Research studies suggest that transfer learning and ensemble models are capable of increasing the accuracy of deep learning (DL) models. However, very few studies have conducted comprehensive experiments utilizing these techniques in detecting and localizing blood malignancies. Realizing the gap, this study conducted three experiments; in the first experiment -- six original CNNs were used, in the second experiment -- transfer learning and, in the third experiment a novel ensemble model DIX (DenseNet201, InceptionV3, and Xception) was developed to detect and classify blood cancer. The statistical result suggests that DIX outperformed the original and transfer learning performance, providing an accuracy of 99.12%. However, this study also provides a negative result in the case of transfer learning, as the transfer learning did not increase the accuracy of the original CNNs. Like many other cancers, blood cancer diseases require timely identification for effective treatment plans and increased survival possibilities. The high accuracy in detecting and categorization blood cancer detection using CNN suggests that the CNN model is promising in blood cancer disease detection. This research is significant in the fields of biomedical engineering, computer-aided disease diagnosis, and ML-based disease detection.

A study on Deep Convolutional Neural Networks, Transfer Learning and Ensemble Model for Breast Cancer Detection

In deep learning, transfer learning and ensemble models have shown promise in improving computer-aided disease diagnosis. However, applying the transfer learning and ensemble model is still relatively limited. Moreover, the ensemble model's development is ad-hoc, overlooks redundant layers, and suffers from imbalanced datasets and inadequate augmentation. Lastly, significant Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (D-CNNs) have been introduced to detect and classify breast cancer. Still, very few comparative studies were conducted to investigate the accuracy and efficiency of existing CNN architectures. Realising the gaps, this study compares the performance of D-CNN, which includes the original CNN, transfer learning, and an ensemble model, in detecting breast cancer. The comparison study of this paper consists of comparison using six CNN-based deep learning architectures (SE-ResNet152, MobileNetV2, VGG19, ResNet18, InceptionV3, and DenseNet-121), a transfer learning, and an ensemble model on breast cancer detection. Among the comparison of these models, the ensemble model provides the highest detection and classification accuracy of 99.94% for breast cancer detection and classification. However, this study also provides a negative result in the case of transfer learning, as the transfer learning did not increase the accuracy of the original SE-ResNet152, MobileNetV2, VGG19, ResNet18, InceptionV3, and DenseNet-121 model. The high accuracy in detecting and categorising breast cancer detection using CNN suggests that the CNN model is promising in breast cancer disease detection. This research is significant in biomedical engineering, computer-aided disease diagnosis, and ML-based disease detection.

Developing an efficient corpus using Ensemble Data cleaning approach

Despite the observable benefit of Natural Language Processing (NLP) in processing a large amount of textual medical data within a limited time for information retrieval, a handful of research efforts have been devoted to uncovering novel data-cleaning methods. Data cleaning in NLP is at the centre point for extracting validated information. Another observed limitation in the NLP domain is having limited medical corpora that provide answers to a given medical question. Realising the limitations and challenges from two perspectives, this research aims to clean a medical dataset using ensemble techniques and to develop a corpus. The corpora expect that it will answer the question based on the semantic relationship of corpus sequences. However, the data cleaning method in this research suggests that the ensemble technique provides the highest accuracy (94%) compared to the single process, which includes vectorisation, exploratory data analysis, and feeding the vectorised data. The second aim of having an adequate corpus was realised by extracting answers from the dataset. This research is significant in machine learning, specifically data cleaning and the medical sector, but it also underscores the importance of NLP in the medical field, where accurate and timely information extraction can be a matter of life and death. It establishes text data processing using NLP as a powerful tool for extracting valuable information like image data.

Identity documentation for refugees is a complex process and crucial for host nations. A secured identity management system ensures both security and the efficient provision of services for the host nation and the donor organizations. Realizing the benefits, a handful of studies enriched the blockchain-based security identification for refugees. The research studies presented the introductory, conceptual, and practical solution related to the blockchain-based smart contract. There is a common agreement in the studies that blockchain-based smart contract not only streamlines refugee identity verification but also safeguards against unauthorized entries. Since it is a technology as well, it has been essential to know the present status of the technology in the social context. In such a situation it becomes essential to review the existing research studies to provide insight for future studies. In this study, we reviewed current studies using a thematic approach. Our findings suggest researchers are more inclined to provide conceptual models as the models are important in advancing technology; however, the models need to be implemented for practical advances. However, the main contribution of this study is that this study gathers current efforts in smart contract-based refugee identity management. This study is important for the refugee host nations as well as for stakeholders. Knowledge gained from the study is expected to provide insight into how the technology can be developed using existing theory and implementation frameworks.

A Comparison Study of Deep CNN Architecture in Detecting of Pneumonia

Pneumonia, a respiratory infection brought on by bacteria or viruses, affects a large number of people, especially in developing and impoverished countries where high levels of pollution, unclean living conditions, and overcrowding are frequently observed, along with insufficient medical infrastructure. Pleural effusion, a condition in which fluids fill the lung and complicate breathing, is brought on by pneumonia. Early detection of pneumonia is essential for ensuring curative care and boosting survival rates. The approach most usually used to diagnose pneumonia is chest X-ray imaging. The purpose of this work is to develop a method for the automatic diagnosis of bacterial and viral pneumonia in digital x-ray pictures. This article first presents the authors' technique, and then gives a comprehensive report on recent developments in the field of reliable diagnosis of pneumonia. In this study, here tuned a state-of-the-art deep convolutional neural network to classify plant diseases based on images and tested its performance. Deep learning architecture is compared empirically. VGG19, ResNet with 152v2, Resnext101, Seresnet152, Mobilenettv2, and DenseNet with 201 layers are among the architectures tested. Experiment data consists of two groups, sick and healthy X-ray pictures. To take appropriate action against plant diseases as soon as possible, rapid disease identification models are preferred. DenseNet201 has shown no overfitting or performance degradation in our experiments, and its accuracy tends to increase as the number of epochs increases. Further, DenseNet201 achieves state-of-the-art performance with a significantly a smaller number of parameters and within a reasonable computing time. This architecture outperforms the competition in terms of testing accuracy, scoring 95%. Each architecture was trained using Keras, using Theano as the backend.

Brain Cancer Segmentation Using YOLOv5 Deep Neural Network

An expansion of aberrant brain cells is referred to as a brain tumor. The brain's architecture is extremely intricate, with several regions controlling various nervous system processes. Any portion of the brain or skull can develop a brain tumor, including the brain's protective coating, the base of the skull, the brainstem, the sinuses, the nasal cavity, and many other places. Over the past ten years, numerous developments in the field of computer-aided brain tumor diagnosis have been made. Recently, instance segmentation has attracted a lot of interest in numerous computer vision applications. It seeks to assign various IDs to various scene objects, even if they are members of the same class. Typically, a two-stage pipeline is used to perform instance segmentation. This study shows brain cancer segmentation using YOLOv5. Yolo takes dataset as picture format and corresponding text file. You Only Look Once (YOLO) is a viral and widely used algorithm. YOLO is famous for its object recognition properties. You Only Look Once (YOLO) is a popular algorithm that has gone viral. YOLO is well known for its ability to identify objects. YOLO V2, V3, V4, and V5 are some of the YOLO latest versions that experts have published in recent years. Early brain tumor detection is one of the most important jobs that neurologists and radiologists have. However, it can be difficult and error-prone to manually identify and segment brain tumors from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data. For making an early diagnosis of the condition, an automated brain tumor detection system is necessary. The model of the research paper has three classes. They are respectively Meningioma, Pituitary, Glioma. The results show that, our model achieves competitive accuracy, in terms of runtime usage of M2 10 core GPU.

Toward IoT enabled smart offices: Achieving Sustainable Development Goals

Despite research advocating the Internet of Things (IoT) as an effective in-office monitoring system, little research has presented societal and climate centric discussions. Whereas the United Nations (UN) and other development agencies concerned with climate impact, are advocating transformative actions towards smart cities, very little research in the IoT domain analyzes the advantages of IoT in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) to fill this gap. In this study, a smart office (SO) was developed in a Cisco packet tracer. We then presented the SO through the lens of SDGs. We suggest that SOs support targets mentioned in Goal 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12 of the SDGs. This research is crucial - both for developing and developed economies, as we move toward industrialization, while ignoring the adverse impacts of industrialization. This work is expected to provide a pathway with technological innovation toward a more sustainable world for IT practitioners, governments and development agencies.

Towards a secured smart IoT using light weight blockchain: An aim to secure Pharmacy Products

Blockchain has proven a very developed and secured technology. It ensures data integrity with authentic connected nodes. Now-a-days, blockchain with IoT is a great combination for secured and smart end to end product delivery. This observation has motivated the research to develop a conceptual model to provide a secure pharmaceutical product delivery by developing a IoT integrated with lightweight blockchain. The undeveloped and most of the developing countries are facing problems such as drug counterfeits, shortages, opiates and tracking them became difficult because of less transparency. Also, nature sensitive medicines need to be stored under controlled temperature known as cold-chain shipping. The storage of these information in the recent software is done in the centralized databases that is prone to data manipulations and hacks. Due to less production drugs needed to be imported with maintaining drug supply chain regulations by law. This paper proposes a lightweight blockchain model for pharmaceutical industries by using IoT. This model ensures traceability of drugs within a very simple way which is less complex compared to the existing ones.
