Lightweight Model for Poultry Disease Detection from Fecal Images Using Multi-Color Space Feature Optimization and Machine Learning

Poultry farming is a vital component of the global food supply chain, yet it remains highly vulnerable to infectious diseases such as coccidiosis, salmonellosis, and Newcastle disease. This study proposes a lightweight machine learning-based approach to detect these diseases by analyzing poultry fecal images. We utilize multi-color space feature extraction (RGB, HSV, LAB) and explore a wide range of color, texture, and shape-based descriptors, including color histograms, local binary patterns (LBP), wavelet transforms, and edge detectors. Through a systematic ablation study and dimensionality reduction using PCA and XGBoost feature selection, we identify a compact global feature set that balances accuracy and computational efficiency. An artificial neural network (ANN) classifier trained on these features achieved 95.85% accuracy while requiring no GPU and only 638 seconds of execution time in Google Colab. Compared to deep learning models such as Xception and MobileNetV3, our proposed model offers comparable accuracy with drastically lower resource usage. This work demonstrates a cost-effective, interpretable, and scalable alternative to deep learning for real-time poultry disease detection in low-resource agricultural settings.

Damped dust-ion-acoustic solitons in collisional magnetized nonthermal plasmas

A multi-species magnetized collisional nonthermal plasma system containing inertial ion species, non-inertial electron species following nonthermal $κ-$ distribution, and immobile dust particles, is considered to examine the characteristics of the dissipative dust-ion-acoustic (DIA) soliton modes, \textbf{theoretically and parametrically}. The electrostatic solitary modes are found to be associated with the low frequency dissipative dust-ion-acoustic solitary waves (DIASWs). The ion-neutral collision is taken into account, and the influence of ion-neutral collisional effects on the dynamics of dissipative DIASWs is investigated. It is reported that most of the plasma mediums in space and laboratory are far from thermal equilibrium, and the particles in such plasma systems are well fitted via the $κ-$nonthermal distribution than via the thermal Maxwellian distribution. The reductive perturbation approach is adopted to derive the damped KdV (dKdV) equation, and the solitary wave solution of the dKdV equation is derived via the tangent hyperbolic method to analyze the basic features (amplitude, width, speed, time evolution, etc.) of dissipative DIASWs. The propagation nature and also the basic features of dissipative DIASWs are seen to influence significantly due to the variation of the plasma configuration parameters and also due to the variation of the supethermality index $κ$ in the considered plasma system. The implication of the results of this study could be useful for better understanding the electrostatic localized disturbances, in the ion length and time scale, in space and experimental dusty plasmas, where the presence of excess energetic electrons and ion-neutral collisional damping are accountable.

An Improved ACS Algorithm for the Solutions of Larger TSP Problems

Solving large traveling salesman problem (TSP) in an efficient way is a challenging area for the researchers of computer science. This paper presents a modified version of the ant colony system (ACS) algorithm called Red-Black Ant Colony System (RB-ACS) for the solutions of TSP which is the most prominent member of the combinatorial optimization problem. RB-ACS uses the concept of ant colony system together with the parallel search of genetic algorithm for obtaining the optimal solutions quickly. In this paper, it is shown that the proposed RB-ACS algorithm yields significantly better performance than the existing best-known algorithms.
