Extremal K-contact metrics

Extending a result of He to the non-integrable case of K-contact manifolds, it is shown that transverse Hermitian scalar curvature may be interpreted as a moment map for the strict contactomorphism group. As a consequence, we may generalize the Sasaki-Futaki invariant to K-contact geometry and establish a number of elementary properties. Moreover, we prove that in dimension 5 certain deformation-theoretic results can be established also under weaker integrability conditions by exploiting the relationship between J-anti-invariant and self-dual 2-forms.

Existence of HKT metrics on hypercomplex manifolds of real dimension 8

A hypercomplex manifold $M$ is a manifold equipped with three complex structures satisfying quaternionic relations. Such a manifold admits a canonical torsion-free connection preserving the quaternion action, called Obata connection. A quaternionic Hermitian metric is a Riemannian metric on which is invariant with respect to unitary quaternions. Such a metric is called HKT if it is locally obtained as a Hessian of a function averaged with quaternions. HKT metric is a natural analogue of a Kahler metric on a complex manifold. We push this analogy further, proving a quaternionic analogue of Buchdahl-Lamari's theorem for complex surfaces. Buchdahl and Lamari have shown that a complex surface M admits a Kahler structure iff $b_1(M)$ is even. We show that a hypercomplex manifold M with Obata holonomy $SL(2,{\mathbb H})$ admits an HKT structure iff $H^{0,1}(M)=H^1({\cal O}_M)$ is even.

Stability under deformations of Hermite-Einstein almost-Kähler metrics

On a 4-dimensional compact symplectic manifold, we consider a smooth family of compatible almost-complex structures such that at time zero the induced metric is Hermite-Einstein almost-Kähler metric with zero or negative Hermitian scalar curvature. We prove, under certain hypothesis, the existence of a smooth family of compatible almost-complex structures, diffeomorphic at each time to the initial family, and inducing constant Hermitian scalar curvature metrics.

The J-flow and stability

We study the J-flow from the point of view of an algebro-geometric stability condition. In terms of this we give a lower bound for the natural associated energy functional, and we show that the blowup behavior found by Fang-Lai is reflected by the optimal destabilizer. Finally we prove a general existence result on complex tori.

Extremal almost-Kähler metrics

We generalize the notions of the Futaki invariant and extremal vector field of a compact Kähler manifold to the general almost-Kahler case and show the periodicity of the extremal vector field when the symplectic form represents an integral cohomology class modulo torsion. We also give an explicit formula of the hermitian scalar curvature in Darboux coordinates which allows us to obtain examples of non-integrable extremal almost-Kähler metrics saturating LeBrun's estimates.

Stability under deformations of extremal almost-Kähler metrics in dimension 4

Given a path of almost-Kähler metrics compatible with a fixed symplectic form on a compact 4-manifold such that at time zero the almost-Kähler metric is an extremal Kähler one, we prove, for a short time and under a certain hypothesis, the existence of a smooth family of extremal almost-Kähler metrics compatible with the same symplectic form, such that at each time the induced almost-complex structure is diffeomorphic to the one induced by the path.
