Reflexivity of Banach $C(K)$-modules via the reflexivity of Banach lattices

We extend the well known criteria of reflexivity of Banach lattices due to Lozanovsky and Lotz to the class of finitely generated Banach $C(K)$- modules. Namely we prove that a finitely generated Banach $C(K)$-module is reflexive if and only if it does not contain any subspace isomorphic to either $l^1$ or $c_0$.

Strong Monotonicity of Spectral Radius of Positive Operators

The classic result of Perron and Frobenius states that if $A$ and $B$ are matrices with nonnegative elements, such that $A \leq B$, $A$ is irreducible, and $ρ(A) = ρ(B)$ then $A = B$. We extend this result to a large class of band irreducible positive operators on a large class of Banach lattices and provide examples to show that the conditions we put on operators and Banach lattices cannot be weakened.

Multiplication operators on vector-valued function spaces

Let $E$ be a Banach function space on a probability measure space $(Ω,Σ,μ).$ Let $X$ be a Banach space and $E(X)$ be the associated Köthe-Bochner space. An operator on $E(X)$ is called a multiplication operator if it is given by multiplication by a function in $L^{\infty}(μ).$ In the main result of this paper, we show that an operator $T$ on $E(X)$ is a multiplication operator if and only if $T$ commutes with $L^{\infty}(μ)$ and leaves invariant the cyclic subspaces generated by the constant vector-valued functions in $E(X).$ As a corollary we show that this is equivalent to $T$ satisfying a functional equation considered by Calabuig, Rodríguez, Sánchez-Pérez in [3].

The ideal center of the dual of a Banach lattice

Let $E$ be a Banach lattice. Its ideal center $Z(E)$ is embedded naturally in the ideal center $Z(E')$ of its dual. The embedding may be extended to a contractive algebra and lattice homomorphism of $Z(E)"$ into $Z(E')$. We show that the extension is onto $Z(E')$ if and only if $E$ has a topologically full center. (That is, for each $x\in E$, the closure of $Z(E)x$ is the closed ideal generated by $x$.) The result can be generalized to the ideal center of the order dual of an Archimedean Riesz space and in a modified form to the orthomorphisms on the order dual of an Archimedean Riesz space.

Generalizing Hartogs' Trichotomy Theorem

A celebrated argument of F. Hartogs (1915) deduces the Axiom of Choice from the hypothesis of comparability for any pair of cardinals. We show how each of a sequence of seemingly much weaker hypotheses suffices. Fixing a finite number $k>1$, the Axiom of Choice follows if merely any family of $k$ cardinals contains at least one comparable pair.
