Five-point Type IIB String Amplitudes at One Loop

Massless type IIB superstring amplitudes are organized according to the number of external states and their ${\mathrm U}(1)$ charge under the R-symmetry of type IIB supergravity. In this work, we analyze the low-energy expansion of one-loop five-point amplitudes in all charge sectors, focusing on the representative processes involving five gravitons and four gravitons with one dilaton. We compute the one-loop contributions to the moduli-dependent couplings in the type IIB effective action up to the $D^{12}R^5$ and $D^{14}ϕR^4$ interactions. The results are consistent with $S$-duality constraints in every charge sector and exhibit rich arithmetic structure, including single-valued multiple zeta values, affine linear combinations of logarithmic derivatives of the Riemann zeta function at odd integers, and a new constant of currently unknown nature.

Canonicalizing zeta generators: genus zero and genus one

Zeta generators are derivations associated with odd Riemann zeta values that act freely on the Lie algebra of the fundamental group of Riemann surfaces with marked points. The genus-zero incarnation of zeta generators are Ihara derivations of certain Lie polynomials in two generators that can be obtained from the Drinfeld associator. We characterize a canonical choice of these polynomials, together with their non-Lie counterparts at even degrees $w\geq 2$, through the action of the dual space of formal and motivic multizeta values. Based on these canonical polynomials, we propose a canonical isomorphism that maps motivic multizeta values into the $f$-alphabet. The canonical Lie polynomials from the genus-zero setup determine canonical zeta generators in genus one that act on the two generators of Enriquez' elliptic associators. Up to a single contribution at fixed degree, the zeta generators in genus one are systematically expanded in terms of Tsunogai's geometric derivations dual to holomorphic Eisenstein series, leading to a wealth of explicit high-order computations. Earlier ambiguities in defining the non-geometric part of genus-one zeta generators are resolved by imposing a new representation-theoretic condition. The tight interplay between zeta generators in genus zero and genus one unravelled in this work connects the construction of single-valued multiple polylogarithms on the sphere with iterated-Eisenstein-integral representations of modular graph forms.

Type II superstring amplitude at one-loop and transcendentality

We calculate the four-graviton scattering amplitude in Type II superstring theory at one loop up to seventh order in the low-energy expansion through the recently developed iterated integral formalism of Modular Graph Functions (MGFs). The machinery of the novel method allows us to propose a general form of the amplitude, which suggests that the expansion is expressible in terms of single-valued multiple zeta values and logarithmic derivatives of the Riemann zeta function at positive and negative odd integers. Furthermore, we comment on the transcendental behavior of the amplitude.

From Modular Graph Forms to Iterated Integrals

Modular graph forms are a class of non-holomorphic modular forms that arise in the low-energy expansion of genus-one closed string amplitudes. In this work, we introduce a systematic procedure to convert lattice-sum representations of modular graph forms into iterated integrals of holomorphic Eisenstein series and provide a \textsc{Mathematica} package that implements all modular graph form topologies up to four vertices. To achieve this, we introduce specific tree-representations of modular graph forms. The presented method enables the conversion of the integrand of the four-graviton one-loop superstring amplitude at eighth order in the inverse string tension $α^{\prime 8}$, which we use to calculate the $α^{\prime 8}ζ_3ζ_5$ contribution to the analytic part of the amplitude.

Non-holomorphic modular forms from zeta generators

We study non-holomorphic modular forms built from iterated integrals of holomorphic modular forms for SL$(2,\mathbb Z)$ known as equivariant iterated Eisenstein integrals. A special subclass of them furnishes an equivalent description of the modular graph forms appearing in the low-energy expansion of string amplitudes at genus one. Notably the Fourier expansion of modular graph forms contains single-valued multiple zeta values. We deduce the appearance of products and higher-depth instances of multiple zeta values in equivariant iterated Eisenstein integrals, and ultimately modular graph forms, from the appearance of simpler odd Riemann zeta values. This analysis relies on so-called zeta generators which act on certain non-commutative variables in the generating series of the iterated integrals. From an extension of these non-commutative variables we incorporate iterated integrals involving holomorphic cusp forms into our setup and use them to construct the modular completion of triple Eisenstein integrals. Our work represents a fully explicit realisation of the modular graph forms within Brown's framework of equivariant iterated Eisenstein integrals and reveals structural analogies between single-valued period functions appearing in genus zero and one string amplitudes.

Integral of depth zero to three basis of Modular Graph Functions

Modular Graph Functions (MGFs) are SL(2,$\mathbb{Z}$)-invariant functions that emerge in the study of the low-energy expansion of the one-loop closed string amplitude. To find the string scattering amplitude, we must integrate MGFs over the moduli space of the torus. In this paper, we use the iterated integral representation of MGFs to establish a depth-dependent basis for them, where "depth" refers to the number of iterations in the integral. This basis has a suitable Laplace equation. We integrate this basis from depth zero to depth three over the fundamental domain of SL(2,$\mathbb{Z}$) with a cut-off.

Modular graph forms from equivariant iterated Eisenstein integrals

The low-energy expansion of closed-string scattering amplitudes at genus one introduces infinite families of non-holomorphic modular forms called modular graph forms. Their differential and number-theoretic properties motivated Brown's alternative construction of non-holomorphic modular forms in the recent mathematics literature from so-called equivariant iterated Eisenstein integrals. In this work, we provide the first validations beyond depth one of Brown's conjecture that equivariant iterated Eisenstein integrals contain modular graph forms. Apart from a variety of examples at depth two and three, we spell out the systematics of the dictionary and make certain elements of Brown's construction fully explicit to all orders.

Planar Maximally Entangled States

We construct a large family of Planar Maximally Entangled (PME) states which are a wider class of multi-partite entangled states than Absolutely Maximally Entangled (AME) states. These are states in which any half of the qudits are in a maximally mixed state, provided that they form a connected subset. We show that in contrast to AMEs, PMEs are easier to find and there are various PMEs for any even number of qudits. In particular, while it is known that no AME state of four qubits exists, we show that there are two distinct multi-parameter classes of four qubit PMEs. We also give explicit families of PMEs for any even number of particles and for any dimension.

Complexity for Charged Thermofield Double States

We study Nielsen's circuit complexity for a charged thermofield double state (cTFD) of free complex scalar quantum field theory in the presence of background electric field. We show that the ratio of the complexity of formation for cTFD state to the thermodynamic entropy is finite and it depends just on the temperature and chemical potential. Moreover, this ratio smoothly approaches the value for real scalar theory. We compare our field theory calculations with holographic complexity of charged black holes and confirm that the same cost function which is used for neutral case continues to work in presence of $U(1)$ background field. For $t>0$, the complexity of cTFD state evolves in time and contrasts with holographic results, it saturates after a time of the order of inverse temperature. This discrepancy can be understood by the fact that holographic QFTs are actually strong interacting theories, not free ones.
