The baryon number fluctuation $κσ^2$ as a probe of nuclear matter phase transition at high baryon density

Two critical end points (CEPs) of the chiral phase transition and the nuclear liquid-gas phase transition show up at finite baryon chemical potential. The kurtosis $κσ^2$ of baryon number fluctuation on the $T-μ_B$ plane is positive on the first-order side and negative on the crossover side along the phase boundary. The freeze-out line extracted from the heavy ion collisions crosses between these two phase boundaries, one can observe a peak of $κσ^2$ around the collision energy $5 {\rm GeV}$ near the CEP of the chiral phase transition, and negative $κσ^2$ at low collision energies due to the CEP of the nuclear liquid-gas phase transition. This expalains the experimental measurement of $κσ^2$ at the collision energies of 2.4 GeV at HADES and 3 GeV and 7.7-200 GeV at STAR for most central collision. Thus we propose that the baryon number fluctuation $κσ^2$ can be used as a probe of nuclear matter phase structure at high baryon density.

Functional renormalization group study of neutral and charged pion under magnetic fields in the quark-meson model

We calculated the masses of neutral and charged pion and pion decay constants under an extra magnetic field at zero temperature. The quantum fluctuations are integrated through the functional renormalization group. We consider the quark and meson propagators in the Landau level representation and weak-field expansion, respectively. The neutral pion mass monotonically decreases with the magnetic field, while the charged pion mass monotonically increases with the magnetic field. The pion decay constant and the quark mass show the magnetic catalysis behavior at vanishing temperature. The neutral pion mass and pion decay constant are quantitatively in agreement with the lattice QCD results in the region of $eB < 1.2 {\rm GeV}^2$, and no non-monotonic mass behavior for charged pion has been observed in this framework.

Dynamical magnetic fields in heavy-ion collisions

The magnetic fields in heavy-ion collisions are important ingredients for many interesting phenomena, such as the Chiral Magnetic Effect, Chiral Magnetic Wave, the directed flow $v_1$ of $D^0$ mesons and the splitting of the spin polarization of the $Λ$/$\barΛ$. Quantitative studies of these phenomena however suffer from limited understanding on the dynamical evolution of these fields in the medium created by the collisions, which remains a critical and challenging problem. The initial magnetic fields from the colliding nuclei decay very fast in the vacuum but their lifetime could be extended through medium response due to electrically conducting quarks and antiquarks. Here we perform a detailed analysis of such medium effect on the dynamical magnetic fields by numerically solving the Maxwell's equations concurrently with the expanding medium described by viscous hydrodynamics, under the assumption of negligible back reaction of the fields on the fluid evolution. Our results suggest a considerable enhancement of late time magnetic fields, the magnitude of which depends sensitively on the fireball expansion as well as the medium electric conductivity both before and during hydrodynamic stage.

Gravitational waves and primordial black holes from chirality imbalanced QCD first-order phase transition with $\mathcal {P}$ and $\mathcal {CP}$ violation

The chirality imbalance in QCD is spontaneously induced by a repulsive axial-vector interaction from the instanton anti-instanton pairing at high temperature above the chiral phase transition, and vanishes at low temperature. The chiral chemical potential $μ_5$ is in the same magnitude as estimated from the sphaleron transition. Phase transition of the chirality imbalance is always a first-order one in the early universe with $\mathcal {P}$ and $\mathcal {CP}$ violation. The spectra of gravitational waves and the formation of the primordial black holes from this first-order phase transition is investigated in this work, and the effect of a strong magnetic field is also analyzed. The gravitational waves produced by chirality imbalance can be detected by LISA, Taiji and DECIGO, with the peak energy density locating in the range of $10^{-11}$ to $10^{-9}$ and the peak frequencies lying in the range of $10^{-5}$ Hz to $10^{-2}$ Hz. The spectrum with larger axial vector coupling strength and stronger magnetic field has higher peak energy density and lower peak frequency. According to this trend, the gravitational waves spectra might also be able to be detected by SKA, IPTA and EPTA. The Phase transition inverse duration $β/H_*$ calculated from the bounce solution is in the order of $10^4$, which is much higher than typical value $10-100$ from electroweak phase transitions. Based on the mechanism of postponement of the false vacuum decay, it is found that the formation of the primordial black hole is not favored because the phase transition completes in an extreme short time due to the large value of $β/H_*$ and thus the false vacuum energy density decays sharply.

Deciding on the anomalous magnetic moment of quarks in a framework of nonlocal NJL model

Anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of quarks in presence of an external magnetic field has been explored using a nonlocal Nambu\textemdash Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. Various strengths of AMM differing in orders of magnitude are used in the literature. We explore them in our nonlocal framework to decide on their strength. We checked the validity of using constant AMM of quarks and investigate two different temperature and magnetic field dependent forms. The forms are taken as the AMM being proportional to the i) meanfield and the ii) square of the meanfield. On comparison with the lattice data for both the condensate averages and differences, it turns out that the second choice is the most suitable one, in such an effective model scenario. In the process, we also keep track of the phase diagram in the $T-eB$ plane arising from our model calculation. The outcome is reasonable as far as the lattice QCD result is concerned.

The hadron spectra and pion form factor in dynamical holographic QCD model with anomalous 5D mass of scalar field

The simplest version of the dynamical holographic QCD model is described by adding the KKSS model action on a dilaton-graviton coupled background, in which the AdS$_5$ metric is deformed by the gluon condensation and further deformed by the chiral condensation. In this framework, both the chiral symmetry breaking and linear confinement can be realized, the light-flavor hadron spectra and the pion form factor were investigated but it was difficult to reconcile the light-flavor hadron spectra and pion form factor. By considering the anomalous 5-dimension mass correction of the scalar field from QCD running coupling, it is found that the light flavor hadron spectra and pion form factor can be described well simultaneously, especially the ground state and lower excitation states of scalar, pseudo scalar and axial vector meson spectra are improved, but the vector meson spectra is not sensitive to the anomalous 5-dimension mass correction of the scalar field.

Bubble nucleation and gravitational wave from holography

We investigate the bounce solution in the holographic QCD and electroweak models with first-order phase transition. The strength parameter $α$, inverse duration time $β/H$, and bubble wall velocity $v_w$ in the gravitational wave power spectra are calculated by holographic bounce solution. In contrast to the results of field theory, we find the parameter $α$ is about $\mathcal{O}(1)$ and $β/H$ is about $10^4$, which imply that the phase transition is fast and strong. The critical, nucleation and percolation temperatures of the phase transition are close to each other in the holographic model. In addition, the velocity $v_w$ is found to be less than the sound speed of the plasma $c_{s}=1/\sqrt{3}$, which corresponds to the deflagration scenario. For QCD phase transition, the gravitational wave power spectrum can reach $10^{-13}-10^{-14}$ around the peak frequency of 0.01 Hz, which can be detected by BBO and Ultimate-DECIGO. For electroweak phase transition, the gravitational wave power spectrum can reach $10^{-12}-10^{-16}$ around the peak frequency $1-10$ Hz. Moreover, the primordial black hole is not favorable for formation due to the large parameter $β/H$ and small velocity $v_w$.

Anisotropic gravitational waves induced by hypermagnetic fields during the electroweak phase transition epoch

We study the anisotropies of gravitational waves induced by weak hypermagnetic fields which are randomly distributed and oriented during the electroweak phase transition in the early universe. The theory setup of this study is the standard model plus a real singlet scalar field, which can produce the needed strongly first order electroweak phase transition. Then we investigate how the hypermagnetic fields can convert to magnetic fields and we compute the departure of energy difference between the symmetric phase and the broken phase when the magnetic fields are turned on. It is found that the presence of the hypermagnetic fields can increase the Euclidean action, thus can decrease nucleation temperature, which can lead to a supercool plasma. We point out that the hypermagnetic field can enhance the gravitational wave production from a first order electroweak phase transition and the inhomogeneity of primordial hypermagnetic field can lead to anisotropies of gravitational waves. By examining three well-motivated distribution of hypermagnetic fields, we calculate the corresponding angular power spectra of stochastic gravitational wave background and find they can be significantly larger than the contributions of the Sachs-Wolfe effects and integrated Sachs-Wolfe effects. Our results show that the anisotropies of gravitational wave could provide a novel probe to the primordial hypermagnetic field in the electroweak phase transition epoch.

$Λ/{\bar Λ}$ Polarization and Splitting Induced by Rotation and Magnetic Field

The global polarization of $Λ/{\bar Λ}$ and the splitting of ${\bar Λ}-Λ$ polarization induced by rotation and magnetic field has been investigated in a dynamical quark model by taking into account the axial vector interaction and the anomalous magnetic moment of quarks. It is found that the rotation leads to the spin polarization of quarks and anti-quarks with the same sign, while the magnetic field to opposite sign, which corresponds to the ${\bar Λ}-Λ$ polarization splitting. The combination of the two effects leads to perfect agreement with experiment data. Quantitatively, the axial vector spin polarization contributes 30$\%$ of the global polarization and the anomalous magnetic moment of quarks contributes 40$\%$ to the splitting of ${\bar Λ}-Λ$ polarization. However, at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} \leq 7.7 \text{GeV}$, it still remains a challenge to reach enough magnitude of the magnetic field at freeze-out.

Holographic cold dense matter constrained by neutron stars

The equation of state (EoS) for cold dense matter inside neutron stars is investigated by using holographic QCD models in the framework of the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMD) system and the improved Karch-Katz-Son-Stephanov (KKSS) action for matter part. This method of describing holographic nuclear matter in the EMD$+$KKSS framework is different from that by using the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action and the Chern-Simons (CS) terms. Combining with the Hebeler-Lattimer-Pethick-Schwenk (HLPS) intermediate equation of state (EoS), the hybrid EoS inside the neutron stars is constructed. The obtained hybrid EoS is located in the range that is defined by the low-density chiral effective theory, the high-density perturbative QCD, and the polytropic interpolations between them, and is constrained by the astrophysics observations. The square of the sound velocity reaches a maximum value larger than $0.8$ in the region of $2-5$ times the saturation baryon number density and approaches the conformal limit at the high baryon density range. The mass-radius relation and the tidal deformability of the neutron stars are in agreement with astrophysical measurements. The possible maximum mass for the neutron star is about $2.5 M_{\odot}$ and the radius is about $12 \mathrm{km}$ then. It is noticed that the holographic quark matter branch in the mass-radius relation is always unstable and the holographic nuclear matter can produce a stable branch. These results indicate that even in the core of the NS, the matter is still in the confinement phase and the quark matter is not favored.

Inhomogeneous chiral condensation under rotation in the holographic QCD

We investigate inhomogeneous chiral condensation under rotation considering finite size effects and boundary conditions in the holographic QCD model. The rotational suppression effect determined by $Ωr$ is confirmed in the holographic model which is not influenced by the boundary conditions. For chiral condensation at the center, it is found that under Neumann boundary condition the finite size exhibits two opposite effects, i.e., catalysis at high temperatures and inverse catalysis at low temperatures. In contrast, under Dirichlet boundary condition, the effect of finite size on condensation is inverse catalysis, and small size induces a phase transition from inhomogeneous to homogeneous phase. The temperature-angular velocity phase diagrams of QCD are obtained for different boundary conditions and sizes, and it is found that the critical temperature decreases with angular velocity.

Elastic proton-proton scattering at LHC energies in holographic QCD

The cross sections of the high energy proton-proton scattering are studied in a holographic QCD model, focusing on the Regge regime. In our model setup, the involved nonperturbative partonic dynamics is described by the Pomeron exchange, which is realized by applying the Reggeized spin-2 particle propagator together with the proton gravitational form factor obtained from the bottom-up AdS/QCD model. Our model includes three adjustable parameters which are to be fitted by experimental data. We show that both the resulting differential and total cross sections are consistent with data, including the ones recently measured at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV by the TOTEM collaboration at the LHC. Our results imply that the present framework works well in the considered TeV scale, and further applications to other high energy scattering processes, in which the involved strong interaction can be approximated by the Pomeron exchange, are possible.

The dynamical holographic QCD method for hadron physics and QCD matter

In this paper we present a short overview on the dynamical holographic QCD method for hadron physics and QCD matter. The 5-dimensional dynamical holographic QCD model is constructed in the graviton-dilaton-scalar framework with the dilaton background field $Φ$ and the scalar field $X$ dual to the gluon condensate and the chiral condensate operator thus can represent the gluodynamics (linear confinement) and chiral dynamics (chiral symmetry breaking), respectively. The dilaton background field and the scalar field are a function of the 5th dimension, which plays the role of the energy scale, in this way, the DhQCD model can resemble the renormalization group from ultraviolet (UV) to infrared (IR). By solving the Einstein equation, the metric structure at IR is automatically deformed by the nonperturbative gluon condensation and chiral condensation in the vacuum. We review the results on the hadron spectra including the glueball spectra, the light/heavy meson spectra, as well as on QCD phase transitions, and thermodynamical as well as transport properties in the framework of the dynamical holographic QCD model.

Restriction on the form of quark anomalous magnetic moment from lattice QCD results

The quark anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) is dynamically generated through the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. It has been revealed that even though its exact form is still unknown, the quark AMM is essential to explore quark matter properties and QCD phase structure under external magnetic fields. In this study, we take three different forms of the quark AMM and investigate its influence on the chiral phase transition under magnetic field. In general, a negative quark AMM plays the role as magnetic catalyzer and a positive quark AMM plays the role of magnetic inhibition. It is found that a constant quark AMM drives an unexpected 1st order chiral phase transition; a quark AMM proportional to the chiral condensate gives a flip of the sign on the chiral condensate; and a quark AMM proportional to the square of chiral condensate can produce results of chiral condensate as functions of the temperature and the magnetic field in good agreement with the lattice result.

Magnetism of QCD matter and pion mass from tensor-type spin polarization and anomalous magnetic moment of quarks

We investigate the magnetism of QCD matter and pion mass under magnetic field considering the contribution from the tensor-type spin polarization and the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of quarks. It is found that the tensor-type spin polarization (TSP) induces the magnetic catalysis of chiral condensate and diamagnetism (negative magnetic susceptibility) of quark matter at low temperature, both neutral and charged pion masses increase quickly with magnetic field in the case of TSP. The anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of quarks induces magnetic inhibition and a magnetic dependent AMM causes inverse magnetic catalysis at finite temperature, and the neutral pion mass decreases with magnetic field while the charged pion mass shows nonmonotonic behavior with the magnetic field, which is qualitatively in agreement with lattice result. However, the magnetic susceptibility is positive at low temperature with AMM. In the current framework, our results show the irreconcilable contradiction between the diamagnetism and inverse magnetic catalysis.

Production rate and ellipticity of lepton pairs from a rotating hot and dense QCD medium

Using a current-current correlation function (CF), the photon polarization tensor is calculated for a rotating hot and dense QCD medium. The spectral function (SF) and the dilepton rate (DR) are estimated therefrom. Numerical results show that both SF and DR are enhanced in a rotating medium, especially in a low invariant mass region. SF and DR are also explored in the consequences of the interplay among the angular velocity, temperature and chemical potential. We also estimated the electromagnetic screening by calculating the Debye mass and it shows a suppression for a rotating QCD medium. The most interesting observation is the azimuthal anisotropy of the dilepton production, i.e, the elliptic flow $v_{2}$ of the lepton pair induced by the rotation as an external field. The competition between the centrifugal effect and the spin polarization effect due to rotation results in a convex down behaviour of the elliptic flow as a function of the transverse momentum in a relatively large magnitude of angular velocity. It is noticed that quark spin polarization induces a negative $v_2$ in the case of large angular velocity.

Zero-mode contribution and quantized first order phase transition in a droplet quark matter

The finite size effect on hadron physics and quark matter has attracted much interest for more than three decades, normally both the periodic (with zero-momentum mode) and the anti-periodic (without zero-momentum mode) spatial boundary condition are applied for fermions. By comparing the thermodynamical potential, it is found that if there is no other physical constraint, the droplet quark matter is always more stable when the periodic spatial boundary condition is applied, and the catalysis of chiral symmetry breaking is observed with the decrease of the system size, while the pions excited from the droplet vacuum keep as pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons. Furthermore, it is found that the zero-momentum mode contribution brings significant change of the chiral apparent phase transition in a droplet of cold dense quark matter: the 1st-order chiral apparent phase transition becomes quantized, i.e., the 1st-order apparent phase transition is completed in two steps, which is a brand-new quantum phenomena. It is expected that the catalysis of chiral symmetry breaking and the quantized 1st-order apparent phase transition are common features for fermionic systems with quantized momentum spectrum with zero-mode contribution, which also show up in quark matter under magnetic field.

Besicovitch almost periodic solutions of abstract semi-linear differential equations with delay

In this paper, we first use the Bohr property to give a definition of Besicovitch almost periodic functions, and study some basic properties of Besicovitch almost periodic functions, including the equivalence of the Bohr property and the Bochner property. Then, as an application, we use the contraction principal to obtain the existence and uniqueness of Besicovitch almost periodic solutions for a class of abstract semi-linear differential equations with delay.
