Unboundedness of fiber invariants of canonically fibred varieties of general type

We answer an open question concerning the boundedness of canonical fiber spaces in high dimensions and prove the following: for any set of integers $n\geq 3$, $0 0$, there exists a nonsingular projective $n$-fold $X$ of general type so that $X$ is canonically fibred by $d$-dimensional varieties $F$ with $p_g(F)\geq N$. This disproves the desired boundedness parallel to Beauville's boundedness theorem in the surface case.

On a question of Demailly-Peternell-Schneider

This note aims to give an affirmative answer to an open question posed by Demailly-Peternell-Schneider [DPS] in 2001 and recently by Peternell [P] again. Let $f:X\mapsto Y$ be a surjective morphism from a log canonical pair (X,D) onto a ${\mathbb Q}$-Gorenstein variety $Y$. If $-(K_X+D)$ is nef, we show that $-K_Y$ is pseudo-effective.

Bicanonical and adjoint linear systems on surfaces of general type

This note contains a new proof of a theorem of Gang Xiao saying that the bicanonical map of a surface S of general type is generically finite if and only if the second plurigenus of S is strictly larger than 2. Such properties are also studied for adjoint linear systems |K_S+L|, where L is any divisor with at least 2 linearly independent sections.

On an efficient induction step with Nklt(X,D)

Applying the effective induction on Nklt(X,D) developed by Hacon, Mckernan and Takayama, Todorov proved that the 5-canonical map is birational for projective 3-folds V with Vol(V) sufficiently large, which was recently improved by Di Biagio in loosing the volume constraint. The observation is that the least efficient induction step can be studied in an alternative way, which allows to assert Todorov's statement for $vol(V)>12^3$. The 4-dimensional analog is also given in this note. The idea works well in all dimensions.

On canonically fibred algebraic 3-folds - some new examples

This note aims to improve known numerical bounds proved earlier by Chen \cite{PAMS} and Chen-Hacon \cite{Chen-Hacon} and to present some new examples of smooth minimal 3-folds canonically fibred by surfaces (resp. curves) of geometric genus as large as 19 (resp. 13). As an interesting by-product, we present a new class of general type surfaces which are canonically fibred by curves of genus 13.

Explicit birational geometry of 3-folds of general type, II

Let $V$ be a complex nonsingular projective 3-fold of general type. We shall give a detailed classification up to baskets of singularities on a minimal model of $V$. We show that the $m$-canonical map of $V$ is birational for all $m\geq 73$ and that the canonical volume $\text{Vol}(V)\geq {1/2660}$. When $χ(\mathcal{O}_V)\leq 1$, our result is $\text{Vol}(V)\geq {1/420}$, which is optimal. Other effective results are also included in the paper.

Explicit birational geometry of 3-folds of general type, I

Let $V$ be a complex nonsingular projective 3-fold of general type. We prove $P_{12}(V):=\text{dim} H^0(V, 12K_V)>0$ and $P_{m_0}(V)>1$ for some positive integer $m_0\leq 24$. A direct consequence is the birationality of the pluricanonical map $φ_m$ for all $m\geq 126$. Besides, the canonical volume $\text{Vol}(V)$ has a universal lower bound $ν(3)\geq \frac{1}{63\cdot 126^2}$.

On Quasismooth Weighted Complete Intersections

We prove two conjectures on weighted complete intersections and give the complete classification of threefold weighted complete intersections in weighted projective space that are canonically or anticanonically embedded.

An optimal boundedness on weak $\bQ$-Fano threefolds

Let $X$ be a terminal weak $\bQ$-Fano threefold. We prove that $P_{-6}(X)>0$ and $P_{-8}(X)>1$. We also prove that the anti-canonical volume has a universal lower bound $-K_X^3 \geq 1/330$. This lower bound is optimal.

Explicit birational geometry of threefolds of general type

Let $V$ be a complex nonsingular projective 3-fold of general type. We prove $P_{12}(V)>0$ and $P_{24}(V)>1$ (which answers an open problem of J. Kollar and S. Mori). We also prove that the canonical volume has an universal lower bound $\text{Vol}(V) \geq 1/2660$ and that the pluri-canonical map $Φ_m$ is birational onto its image for all $m\geq 77$. As an application of our method, we prove Fletcher's conjecture on weighted hyper-surface 3-folds with terminal quotient singularities. Another featured result is the optimal lower bound $\text{Vol}(V)\geq {1/420}$ among all those 3-folds $V$ with $χ({\mathcal O}_V)\leq 1$.

Projective 3-folds of general type with X=1

There are many examples of 3-folds of general type with $χ(\mathcal {O})=1$ found by Iano-Fletcher and Reid about twenty years ago. Iano-Fletcher has ever proved $P_{12}(X)\ge 1$ and $P_{24}(X)\ge 2$ for all minimal 3-folds $X$ of general type with $χ(\mathcal {O}_X)=1$. In this paper, we improve on Fletcher's method. Our main result is that $ϕ_m$ is birational onto its image for all $m\ge 54$. To prove this we establish a general theory on birationality for general 3-folds which improve known results. Also we will show $P_m\geq 1$ for all $m\geq 14$ and $P_{18}\geq 3$.
