Universal thermodynamic topological classes of the charged dRGT black string

In this study, we explore universal thermodynamic topological classes of charged dRGT black string within both the canonical ensemble and grand canonical ensemble frameworks, and further analyze its asymptotic behavior under limiting parameter regimes. We demonstrate that, while the outermost large black string branch remains thermodynamically stable in both ensembles, the innermost small black string branch exhibits distinctly different stability properties: it is stable in the canonical ensemble but becomes thermodynamically unstable in the grand canonical ensemble, corresponding to the $W^{1+}$ and $W^{0-}$ topological categories, respectively. Furthermore, the local thermodynamic stability of the charged dRGT black string is investigated through the behavior of the heat capacity. These findings demonstrate that the selection of thermodynamic ensemble has a significant influence on the thermodynamic configuration of the charged dRGT black string. In the limit where gravitational effects are neglected, the charge contribution does not modify the underlying topological classification. This implies that the coupling between dRGT massive gravity and the electromagnetic sector is essential for the emergence of nontrivial thermodynamic topology. These results contribute to a deeper understanding of the black string thermodynamics and provide a novel theoretical basis for exploring the basic properties of quantum gravity.

Universal Thermodynamic Topological Classes of BTZ Black Holes in Einstein and F(R) Gravity

In this paper, we systematically study three classes of three-dimensional Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black holes based on different gravitational frameworks and matter field structures: the Einstein-Maxwell BTZ, the F(R)-Maxwell BTZ, and the F(R)-phantom BTZ.Within the canonical and grand canonical ensemble frameworks, we construct the generalized free energy of these black hole systems and systematically analyze the asymptotic behavior of Hawking thermodynamics. The results indicate that both gravitational modifications and matter fields significantly influence black hole topology: the F(R) gravitational modification alters the intrinsic topological class of the black hole compared to the BTZ black hole under Einsteinian gravity, while different matter fields further modulate the topological classification results. Furthermore, by comparing the two types of ensembles, we find significant differences in black hole topological classes, and these differences are correlated with the gravitational framework and matter fields. In summary, the gravitational framework, matter fields, and ensemble selection are key factors governing the topological classification of black holes; all identified topological categories belong to the existing three-dimensional spacetime topological classification system, highlighting their universality. This work deepens our understanding of the thermodynamic-topological connection in three-dimensional BTZ black holes and provides a rigorous theoretical foundation for extending such topological classifications to modified gravity theories and different matter field backgrounds.

Thermodynamic topology of dyonic AdS black holes with quasitopological electromagnetism in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

In this study, we investigate the thermodynamic topology of the high-dimensional dyonic AdS black holes with quasitopological electromagnetism in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet background. We first examine the topological charge connected to the critical point and find that the two conventional critical points $CP_{1},CP_{2}$ of the black hole are physical critical point, and the novel critical point $CP_{3}$ that lacks the capability to minimize the Gibbs free energy ($α=0.5$). The critical points $CP_{1}$ and $CP_{2}$ are observed to occur at the maximum extreme points of temperature in the isobaric curve, while the critical point $CP_{3}$, emerges at the minimum extreme points of temperature. Furthermore, the number of phases at the novel critical point exhibits an upward trend, followed by a subsequent decline at the conventional critical points. With the increase of the coupling constant ($α= 1$), although the system has three critical points, only the conventional $CP_{1}$ is a (physical) critical point, and the conventional $CP_{2}$ serves as the phase annihilation point. This means that the coupling constant $α$ has significant impact on the phase structure. Additionally, we regard dyonic AdS black holes as a topological defect within the thermodynamic space, our findings indicate that alterations in pressure can result in the system exhibiting distinct points of generation and annihilation. However, the total topological number of black holes in different dimensions is $1$, the system shares a similar topological classification as the charged RN-AdS black holes. The discovery we have made provides a crucial component in understanding the thermodynamic topology of dyonic AdS black holes.

Novel topological subclass in Hourava-Lifshitz black holes

This work explores the universal classification of thermodynamic topology for charged static black holes within the $z=3$ Hourava-Lifshitz gravity theory, considering both canonical and grand canonical ensembles. We introduce a new topological subclass, denoted as $\ddot{W}^{1-}$. This finding expands the existing topological classification, going beyond the five previously defined classes and their respective subclasses. The $\ddot{W}^{1-}$ subclass presents a distinct and previously unobserved stability profile: In the low-temperature regime, an unstable small black hole appears in the phase space, whereas, while in the high temperature regime, two unstable small black holes exist together with a stable large black hole. Our study underscores the dependence of charged black hole stability on the selection of the ensemble. These results contribute to refining and expanding the topological framework in black hole thermodynamics, providing key perspectives on the underlying nature of black holes and gravity.

Universal topological classes of black holes surrounded by quintessence

This work explores the universal topological classes of various black hole configurations immersed in a quintessence field. The results indicate that the Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by quintessence is of the $W^{1-}$ type, exhibiting thermodynamic instability in both extremal temperature limits. The introduction of rotation alters its topological nature to the $W^{0+}$ class, where the Kerr black hole displays coexistence of a stable small black hole and an unstable large black hole at low temperatures. In comparison, anti de Sitter (adS) black holes display different thermodynamic topologies. The Schwarzschild-adS solution corresponds to the $W^{0-}$ class, where an unstable small branch and a stable large branch emerge in the high temperatures. Meanwhile, the Kerr-adS classified as $W^{1+}$, maintains stability in both high- and low-temperature limits. Furthermore, the 4D/5D quintessential black hole belongs to the $W^{0+}$ class within the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet framework. Overall, parameters such as rotation and Gauss-Bonnet in quintessence background field affect the topological classifications of the black holes, while the quintessence field primarily modifies the stability range without changing the topological class itself.

Universal thermodynamic topological classes of static black holes in Conformal Killing Gravity

In this study, we develop universal thermodynamic topological classes for the static black holes in the context of the Conformal Killing Gravity. Our findings indicate that the Conformal Killing Gravity significantly reconstructs the thermodynamic properties of both the smallest inner and the largest outer black hole states. Additionally, it considerably alters the thermodynamic stability of black holes across both high-temperature and low-temperature regimes. This analysis shows that different CKG parameter settings will lead to $W^{0+}$ $(λ>0)$ and $W^{1+}$ $(λ<0)$ categories for the charged AdS black hole, the Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m black hole in Conformal Killing Gravity is classified into the $W^{0+}$ and $W^{1+}$ categories. Furthermore, we examine the specific scenario where charge is neglected. The study reveals that within the framework of Conformal Killing Gravity, the Schwarzschild black hole similar to the Schwarzschild-AdS black hole, can be classified into the $W^{1-}$ and $W^{0-}$ categories. This work provides key insights into the fundamental nature of quantum gravity theory.

Thermodynamic topology of Phantom AdS Black Holes in Massive Gravity

In this work, we explore the thermodynamic topology of phantom AdS black holes in the context of massive gravity. To this end, we evaluate these black holes in two distinct ensembles: the canonical and grand canonical ensembles (GCE). We begin by examining the topological charge linked to the critical point and confirming the existence of a conventional critical point $(CP_{1})$ in the canonical ensemble (CE), this critical point has a topological charge of $-1$ and acts as a point of phase annihilation, this situation can only be considered within the context of the classical Einstein-Maxwell (CEM) theory $(η=1)$, while no critical point is identified in the GCE. Furthermore, we consider black holes as a topological defect within the thermodynamic space. To gain an understanding of the local and global topological configuration of this defect, we will analyze its winding numbers, and observe that the total topological charge in the CE consistently remains at $1$. When the system experiences a pressure below the critical threshold, it gives rise to the occurrence of annihilation and generation points. The value of electric potential determines whether the total topological charge in the GCE is zero or one. As a result, we detect a point of generation point or absence of generation/annihilation point. Based on our analysis, it can be inferred that ensembles significantly impact the topological class of phantom AdS black holes in massive gravity.

Thermodynamic topology of Kerr-Sen black holes via Rényi statistics

In the present study, we investigate the topological properties of black holes in terms of Rényi statistics as an extension of the Gibbs-Boltzmann (GB) statistics, aiming to characterize the non-Boltzmannian thermodynamic topology of Kerr-Sen and dyonic Kerr-Sen black holes. Through this research, we discover that the topological number derived via Rényi statistics differs from that obtained through GB statistics. Interestingly, although the non-extended parameter $λ$ changes the topological number, the topological classification of the Kerr-Sen and dyonic Kerr-Sen black holes remains consistent under both GB and Rényi statistics. In addition, the topological numbers associated with these two types of black holes without cosmological constant using Rényi entropy processes are the same as the AdS cases of them by considering the GB entropy, as further evidenced by such a study found here. This indicates the cosmological constant has some potential connections the with the nonextensive Rényi parameter from the perspective of thermodynamic topology.

Critical behavior and Joule-Thomson expansion of charged AdS black holes surrounded by exotic fluid with modified Chaplygin equation of state

By considering the concept of a unified single fluid model, referred to as the modified Chaplygin gas (MCG), which amalgamates dark energy and dark matter. In this study, we explore the thermodynamic characteristics of charged anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes existing in an unconventional fluid accompanied by MCG. To accomplish this objective, we derive the equations of state by regarding the charge $Q^{2}$ as a thermodynamic variable. The impact of MCG parameters on the critical thermodynamic quantities ($ψ_{c}$, $T_{c}$, $Q_{c}^{2}$) are examined, followed by a detailed analysis of the $Q^{2}-ψ$ diagram. To provide a clearer explanation of the phase transition, we present an analysis of the Gibbs free energy. It is important to note that if the Hawking temperature exceeds the critical temperature, there is a distinct pattern observed known as swallowtail behavior. This indicates that the system undergoes a first-order phase transition from a smaller black hole to a larger one. The critical exponent of the system is found to be in complete agreement with that of the van der Waals fluid system. Furthermore, we investigate the impact of MCG parameters and black hole charge on the Joule-Thomson (J-T) expansion in the extended phase space. The J-T coefficient is examined to pinpoint the exact region experiencing cooling or heating, the observation reveals that the presence of negative heat capacity results in the occurrence of a cooling process. In addition, it is worth noting that the certain parameters exert a significant influence on the ratio $\frac{T_{min}}{T_{c}}$. The parameters $γ$ and $β$ have a non-negligible effect on the isenthalpy curve.

Topology of nonlinearly charged black hole chemistry via massive gravity

The classification of critical points of charged topological black holes (TBHs) in anti-de Sitter spacetime (AdS) under the Power Maxwell Invariant (PMI)-massive gravity is accomplished within the framework of black hole chemistry (BHC). Considering the grand canonical ensemble (GCE), we show that $d=4$ black hole have only one topological class, whereas $d\ge 5$ black holes belong to two different topology classes. Furthermore, the conventional critical point characterized by negative topological charge coincides with the maximum extreme point of temperature; and the novel critical point featuring opposite topological charge corresponds to the minimum extreme point of temperature. With increasing pressure, new phases emerge at the novel critical point while disappear from the conventional one. Moreover, a atypical van der Waals (vdW) behavior is found in $d\ge 6$ dimensions, and the anomaly disappears at the traditional critical point. In the limit of nonlinearity parameter $s\to1$, different topology classes are only obtained in the GCE and they may not exist within the canonical ensemble. With the absence of electric potential $Φ$, the neutral TBHs share the same topological classification results as the charged TBHs in the GCE of Maxwell-massive gravity.

Joule-Thomson expansion of charged dilatonic black holes

Based on the Einstein-Maxwell theory, the Joule-Thomson (J-T) expansion of charged dilatonic black holes (the solutions are neither flat nor AdS) in $(n+1)$-dimensional spacetime is studied herein. To this end, we analyze the effects of the dimension $n$ and dilaton field $α$ on J-T expansion. An explicit expression for the J-T coefficient is derived, and consequently, a negative heat capacity is found to lead to a cooling process. In contrast to its effect on the dimension, the inversion curve decreases with charge $Q$ at low pressures, whereas the opposite effect is observed at high pressures. We can observe that with an increase in the dimension $n$ or parameter $α$, both the pressure cut-off point and the minimum inversion temperature $T_{min}$ change. Moreover, we analyze the ratio $T_{min}/T_{c}$ numerically and discover that the ratio is independent of charge; however, it depends on the dilaton field and dimension: for $n=3$ and $α=0$, the ratio is 1/2. The dilaton field is found to enhance the ratio. In addition, we identify the cooling-heating regions by investigating the inversion and isenthalpic curves, and the behavior of the minimum inversion mass $M_{min}$ indicates that this cooling-heating transition may not occur under certain special conditions.
