TELEVAL: A Benchmark Designed for Spoken Language Models in Chinese Interactive Scenarios

Spoken Language Models (SLMs) are expected to support natural spoken interaction beyond task completion. However, existing SLM benchmarks primarily evaluate semantic correctness in structured settings and provide limited assessment of interactional behavior grounded in acoustic context. To address this gap, we introduce TELEVAL, a large-scale SLM benchmark for Chinese spoken interaction in instruction-free, audio-conditioned settings. TELEVAL evaluates two complementary aspects: (1) Reliable Content Fulfillment, which measures semantic accuracy of SLMs under diverse acoustic and linguistic conditions, and (2) Interactional Appropriateness, which assesses whether models produce natural and appropriate responses by implicitly grounding behavior in auditory cues. Experiments show that while models perform competitively on semantic tasks, their performance degrades under acoustic variability and in interactional settings. We observe consistent degradation from perceptual instability to interactional errors, and further identify a recurring failure pattern, termed the "Caption Trap", where models tend to describe perceived audio signals rather than produce appropriate interactive responses. These results indicate that current SLMs remain insufficiently aligned with the requirements of natural spoken interaction. TELEVAL provides a targeted framework for evaluating and analyzing interactional behavior in SLMs.

Magnitude and Phase-based Feature Fusion Using Co-attention Mechanism for Speaker recognition

Phase-based features related to vocal source characteristics can be incorporated into magnitude-based speaker recognition systems to improve the system performance. However, traditional feature-level fusion methods typically ignore the unique contributions of speaker semantics in the magnitude and phase domains. To address this issue, this paper proposed a feature-level fusion framework using the co-attention mechanism for speaker recognition. The framework consists of two separate sub-networks for the magnitude and phase domains respectively. Then, the intermediate high-level outputs of both domains are fused by the co-attention mechanism before a pooling layer. A correlation matrix from the co-attention module is supposed to re-assign the weights for dynamically scaling contributions in the magnitude and phase domains according to different pronunciations. Experiments on VoxCeleb showed that the proposed feature-level fusion strategy using the co-attention mechanism gave the Top-1 accuracy of 97.20%, outperforming the state-of-the-art system with 0.82% absolutely, and obtained EER reduction of 0.45% compared to single feature system using FBank.

Speaker Contrastive Learning for Source Speaker Tracing

As a form of biometric authentication technology, the security of speaker verification systems is of utmost importance. However, SV systems are inherently vulnerable to various types of attacks that can compromise their accuracy and reliability. One such attack is voice conversion, which modifies a persons speech to sound like another person by altering various vocal characteristics. This poses a significant threat to SV systems. To address this challenge, the Source Speaker Tracing Challenge in IEEE SLT2024 aims to identify the source speaker information in manipulated speech signals. Specifically, SSTC focuses on source speaker verification against voice conversion to determine whether two converted speech samples originate from the same source speaker. In this study, we propose a speaker contrastive learning-based approach for source speaker tracing to learn the latent source speaker information in converted speech. To learn a more source-speaker-related representation, we employ speaker contrastive loss during the training of the embedding extractor. This speaker contrastive loss helps identify the true source speaker embedding among several distractor speaker embeddings, enabling the embedding extractor to learn the potentially possessing source speaker information present in the converted speech. Experiments demonstrate that our proposed speaker contrastive learning system achieves the lowest EER of 16.788% on the challenge test set, securing first place in the challenge.

ChinaTelecom System Description to VoxCeleb Speaker Recognition Challenge 2023

This technical report describes ChinaTelecom system for Track 1 (closed) of the VoxCeleb2023 Speaker Recognition Challenge (VoxSRC 2023). Our system consists of several ResNet variants trained only on VoxCeleb2, which were fused for better performance later. Score calibration was also applied for each variant and the fused system. The final submission achieved minDCF of 0.1066 and EER of 1.980%.
