Cognitive World Model for Progressive BDI/E Trajectory Evaluation of Conversational Agents

As LLM-based conversational agents advance toward increasingly open-ended and interaction-intensive scenarios, task completion alone provides an incomplete assessment of their effectiveness. The evolution of users' internal states, including beliefs, desires, intentions, and emotions (BDI/E), serves as an intermediate signal connecting agent behaviors with interaction outcomes and reflects how conversational strategies shape users during multi-turn interactions. However, existing evaluation paradigms primarily focus on surface-level responses or final outcomes, providing limited insight into the underlying cognitive processes. This limitation makes it difficult to diagnose why agents succeed or fail and to optimize their interaction strategies. To address this challenge, we propose Cognitive World Model (CogWM), an LLM-based cognitive user model that jointly models users' BDI/E states and corresponding responses, enabling explicit cognitive trajectory tracking. Trained on 150K user-turn samples with Qwen3-14B, CogWM achieves superior performance over existing user simulation baselines in both response fidelity and cognitive state understanding. Interactions with six state-of-the-art LLMs demonstrate that CogWM enables progressive comparison of agents through cognitive trajectories, revealing distinct agent patterns and complementary relationships between cognitive evolution and behavioral outcomes.

Think Thrice Before You Speak: Dual knowledge-enhanced Theory-of-Mind Reasoning for Persuasive Agents

Persuasive dialogue requires reasoning about others' latent mental states, a capability known as Theory of Mind (ToM). However, due to reliance on simple prompting strategies and insufficient ToM knowledge, existing LLMs often fail to capture the intrinsic dependencies among mental states, leading to fragmented representations and unstable reasoning. To address these challenges, we introduce the ToM-based Persuasive Dialogue (ToM-PD) task, grounded in the Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) framework, which explicitly models the sequential dependencies among mental states in multi-turn dialogues. To facilitate research on this task, we construct a large-scale annotated dataset, ToM-based Broad Persuasive Dialogues (ToM-BPD), capturing fine-grained mental states and corresponding persuasive strategies. We further propose Think Thrice Before You Speak (TTBYS), a knowledge-enhanced stepwise reasoning framework that leverages both explicit and implicit prior experiences to improve LLMs' inference of desires, beliefs, and persuasive strategies. Experimental results demonstrate that Qwen3-8B equipped with TTBYS outperforms GPT-5 by 1.20%, 22.80%, and 16.97% in predicting desires, beliefs, and persuasive strategies, respectively. Case studies further show that our approach enhances interpretability and consistency in reasoning.

Bulk-Calibrated Credal Ambiguity Sets: Fast, Tractable Decision Making under Out-of-Sample Contamination

Distributionally robust optimisation (DRO) minimises the worst-case expected loss over an ambiguity set that can capture distributional shifts in out-of-sample environments. While Huber (linear-vacuous) contamination is a classical minimal-assumption model for an $\varepsilon$-fraction of arbitrary perturbations, including it in an ambiguity set can make the worst-case risk infinite and the DRO objective vacuous unless one imposes strong boundedness or support assumptions. We address these challenges by introducing bulk-calibrated credal ambiguity sets: we learn a high-mass bulk set from data while considering contamination inside the bulk and bounding the remaining tail contribution separately. This leads to a closed-form, finite $\mathrm{mean}+\sup$ robust objective and tractable linear or second-order cone programs for common losses and bulk geometries. Through this framework, we highlight and exploit the equivalence between the imprecise probability (IP) notion of upper expectation and the worst-case risk, demonstrating how IP credal sets translate into DRO objectives with interpretable tolerance levels. Experiments on heavy-tailed inventory control, geographically shifted house-price regression, and demographically shifted text classification show competitive robustness-accuracy trade-offs and efficient optimisation times, using Bayesian, frequentist, or empirical reference distributions.

Total robustness in Bayesian Nonlinear Regression

Modern regression analyses are often undermined by covariate measurement error, misspecification of the regression model, and misspecification of the measurement error distribution. We present, to the best of our knowledge, the first Bayesian nonparametric learning framework targeting total robustness to all three challenges in general nonlinear regression. Our framework places a joint Dirichlet process prior on the latent covariate--response distribution and updates it with posterior pseudo-samples of the latent covariates, so that inference is calibrated to the joint law. This yields estimators defined by minimizing the discrepancy between posterior realizations of the joint Dirichlet process and the model-implied joint distribution. We establish generalization bounds and provide a first proof of convergence and consistency of the resulting estimators under non-degenerate measurement error. A gradient-based implementation enables efficient computation; simulations and two real-data studies show improved stability to misspecification under increasing measurement error relative to recent Bayesian and frequentist alternatives.

Imprecise Markov Semigroups and their Ergodicity

We introduce the concept of an imprecise Markov semigroup \(\mathbf Q\). It is a tool that allows us to represent ambiguity around both the transition probabilities and the invariant measure of a continuous-time Markov process via a collection of Markov semigroups, each associated with a (possibly different) Markov process. We use techniques from topology, geometry, and probability to analyze ergodic limits under model uncertainty encoded by \(\mathbf Q\). We establish long-term bounds that are uniform in the initial state and identify regimes in which the imprecision in these bounds collapses asymptotically. Our results are proved in progressively more general settings. We first assume that \(\mathbf Q\) is compact and that the state space is Euclidean or a Riemannian manifold, working with a fixed bounded observable. We then allow the state space to be standard Borel, while keeping \(\mathbf Q\) compact and the observable fixed. Finally, we drop compactness and work on Polish metric spaces of finite diameter, where we treat arbitrary bounded Lipschitz observables. The importance of our findings for the fields of artificial intelligence and computer vision is also discussed at a high level; In particular, in the study of how the probability of an output evolves over time as we perturb the input of a convolutional autoencoder.

OmniLytics+: A Secure, Efficient, and Affordable Blockchain Data Market for Machine Learning through Off-Chain Processing

The rapid development of large machine learning (ML) models requires a massive amount of training data, resulting in booming demands of data sharing and trading through data markets. Traditional centralized data markets suffer from low level of security, and emerging decentralized platforms are faced with efficiency and privacy challenges. In this paper, we propose OmniLytics+, the first decentralized data market, built upon blockchain and smart contract technologies, to simultaneously achieve 1) data (resp., model) privacy for the data (resp. model) owner; 2) robustness against malicious data owners; 3) efficient data validation and aggregation. Specifically, adopting the zero-knowledge (ZK) rollup paradigm, OmniLytics+ proposes to secret share encrypted local gradients, computed from the encrypted global model, with a set of untrusted off-chain servers, who collaboratively generate a ZK proof on the validity of the gradient. In this way, the storage and processing overheads are securely offloaded from blockchain verifiers, significantly improving the privacy, efficiency, and affordability over existing rollup solutions. We implement the proposed OmniLytics+ data market as an Ethereum smart contract [41]. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of OmniLytics+ in training large ML models in presence of malicious data owner, and the substantial advantages of OmniLytics+ in gas cost and execution time over baselines.

The Future of Cognitive Strategy-enhanced Persuasive Dialogue Agents: New Perspectives and Trends

Persuasion, as one of the crucial abilities in human communication, has garnered extensive attention from researchers within the field of intelligent dialogue systems. We humans tend to persuade others to change their viewpoints, attitudes or behaviors through conversations in various scenarios (e.g., persuasion for social good, arguing in online platforms). Developing dialogue agents that can persuade others to accept certain standpoints is essential to achieving truly intelligent and anthropomorphic dialogue system. Benefiting from the substantial progress of Large Language Models (LLMs), dialogue agents have acquired an exceptional capability in context understanding and response generation. However, as a typical and complicated cognitive psychological system, persuasive dialogue agents also require knowledge from the domain of cognitive psychology to attain a level of human-like persuasion. Consequently, the cognitive strategy-enhanced persuasive dialogue agent (defined as CogAgent), which incorporates cognitive strategies to achieve persuasive targets through conversation, has become a predominant research paradigm. To depict the research trends of CogAgent, in this paper, we first present several fundamental cognitive psychology theories and give the formalized definition of three typical cognitive strategies, including the persuasion strategy, the topic path planning strategy, and the argument structure prediction strategy. Then we propose a new system architecture by incorporating the formalized definition to lay the foundation of CogAgent. Representative works are detailed and investigated according to the combined cognitive strategy, followed by the summary of authoritative benchmarks and evaluation metrics. Finally, we summarize our insights on open issues and future directions of CogAgent for upcoming researchers.

High Velocity Kernel File Systems with Bento

High development velocity is critical for modern systems. This is especially true for Linux file systems which are seeing increased pressure from new storage devices and new demands on storage systems. However, high velocity Linux kernel development is challenging due to the ease of introducing bugs, the difficulty of testing and debugging, and the lack of support for redeployment without service disruption. Existing approaches to high-velocity development of file systems for Linux have major downsides, such as the high performance penalty for FUSE file systems, slowing the deployment cycle for new file system functionality. We propose Bento, a framework for high velocity development of Linux kernel file systems. It enables file systems written in safe Rust to be installed in the Linux kernel, with errors largely sandboxed to the file system. Bento file systems can be replaced with no disruption to running applications, allowing daily or weekly upgrades in a cloud server setting. Bento also supports userspace debugging. We implement a simple file system using Bento and show that it performs similarly to VFS-native ext4 on a variety of benchmarks and outperforms a FUSE version by 7x on 'git clone'. We also show that we can dynamically add file provenance tracking to a running kernel file system with only 15ms of service interruption.
