Altermagnetism-Induced Spin-resolved electronic structure in Janus FeX0.5Y0.5 Monolayers (X, Y = S, Se, Te)

Realizing the spin-resolved electronic properties in superconducting materials stands as a critical frontier, offering both novel fundamental physics and potential for dissipationless spin-based devices. Here, we predict a series of Janus FeX0.5Y0.5 monolayers derived from iron-based superconductors (e.g., FeSe, FeTe, and FeS) by using Kondo-type model and first-principles calculations. These Janus structures exhibit significant spin-splittingelectronic states, large topological band gaps (51.4 meV) and high Néel temperatures (415 K). We further reveal that valley polarization can be effectively tuned via applied in-plane strain and the resulting valley-polarized anomalous Hall conductivity can be manipulated by shifting the Fermi level. Our work suggests a new strategy based on altermagnetism for engineering spin-splitting states in superconducting systems and inspires further exploration of superconducting spintronics.

Stacking-Engineered Switchable Altermagnetism in Topological FeSe bilayer systems

Altermagnetism and topological insulators represent two of the most transformative frontiers in modern condensed matter physics, spintronics, and quantum information science. Bringing these two paradigms together opens a largely unexplored route toward fundamentally new quantum phenomena. Here, we predict a topological altermagnetic phase in bilayer tetragonal Fe-based superconductors and reveal it as a highly tunable platform for valley-polarized anomalous Hall physics. Based on first-principles calculations, we show that the characteristic spin-splitting and valley polarization can be effectively tuned via applied strain. Moreover, the resulting valley-polarized anomalous Hall conductivity can be manipulated by shifting the Fermi level. These findings reveal a powerful route for controlling altermagnetism in topological materials and identify a realistic material platform for its experimental realization and technological exploitation.

A Tale of Two Hartle-Hawking Wave Functions: Fully Gravitational vs Partially Frozen

We revisit the Hartle-Hawking wave function in AdS spacetime, where natural spatial slices are open and require an additional spacetime boundary. This leads to two constructions: a fully gravitational wave function, in which the boundary configuration is integrated over, and a partially frozen one, in which it is fixed, as in AdS/CFT. To illustrate the fully gravitational construction, we explicitly analyze it in AdS$_3$ Einstein gravity and AdS$_2$ Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity. We then evaluate the one-loop correction to the hyperbolic-ball partition function in $D$-dimensional AdS Einstein gravity, expected to give the leading contribution to the wave-function norm. We demonstrate that the fully gravitational hyperbolic ball partition function, where the boundary fluctuates, develops a nontrivial one-loop phase of $(\mp i)^{D+1}$, analogous to that of the sphere partition function in dS gravity. By contrast, the partially frozen partition function, where the boundary is fixed, remains real and positive. Motivated by this AdS comparison, we conversely investigate a partially frozen dS sphere partition function where the metric on an equator is fixed, finding that its one-loop phase cancels nontrivially. Our results suggest that the phase problem is controlled by whether the gravitational path integral is fully dynamical or partially frozen.

AGoQ: Activation and Gradient Quantization for Memory-Efficient Distributed Training of LLMs

Quantization is a key method for reducing the GPU memory requirement of training large language models (LLMs). Yet, current approaches are ineffective for 4-bit activations and 8-bit gradients, which would easily cause slow convergence or accuracy loss. To address this, we introduce AGoQ, incorporating two new techniques: 1) a layer-aware activation quantization algorithm that allocates appropriate bit-widths for activations of various layers based on their types and pipeline stages to achieve near 4-bit activation storage, and 2) a gradient quantization algorithm that reduces memory usage and shortens communication time by employing 8-bit gradient storage and precision-preserving 8-bit All-Reduce communication. We conduct extensive experiments using different sizes of LLMs on two GPU clusters (up to 64 GPUs), and the experimental results show that our AGoQ reduces the memory by up to 52\% and achieves up to 1.34$\times$ improvement of training speed compared to state-of-the-art training systems Megatron-LM (w/ or w/o ZeRO), COAT and DeepSpeed with 8B to 32B LLaMA models, while achieving convergence loss on pretraining and comparable accuracy on downstream tasks with LLaMA architectures.

Shape-invariant Potentials and Singular Spaces

In this work, we present two brane-world-type solutions in a two-dimensional (2D) dilaton gravity model with singular space-time backgrounds. By employing a first-order superpotential formalism, we first construct the 2D analogues of the thick brane solution previously given by Gremm and analyze the corresponding linear scalar perturbations. We show that for a model with canonical scalar matter fields, the effective potential of the linear perturbation equation is a singular Pöschl--Teller~II type, which does not admit bound states. However, for a model with non-canonical scalar fields, the effective potential becomes an exactly solvable Pöschl--Teller~I potential, which has an infinite tower of normalizable bound states. We also present a second analytic solution inspired by the work of Girardello \emph{et al.}, but with non-canonical scalar field. In this case, the linear perturbation equation is a Schrödinger equation with the Eckart potential, which is also exactly solvable.

StructVRM: Aligning Multimodal Reasoning with Structured and Verifiable Reward Models

Existing Vision-Language Models often struggle with complex, multi-question reasoning tasks where partial correctness is crucial for effective learning. Traditional reward mechanisms, which provide a single binary score for an entire response, are too coarse to guide models through intricate problems with multiple sub-parts. To address this, we introduce StructVRM, a method that aligns multimodal reasoning with Structured and Verifiable Reward Models. At its core is a model-based verifier trained to provide fine-grained, sub-question-level feedback, assessing semantic and mathematical equivalence rather than relying on rigid string matching. This allows for nuanced, partial credit scoring in previously intractable problem formats. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of StructVRM. Our trained model, Seed-StructVRM, achieves state-of-the-art performance on six out of twelve public multimodal benchmarks and our newly curated, high-difficulty STEM-Bench. The success of StructVRM validates that training with structured, verifiable rewards is a highly effective approach for advancing the capabilities of multimodal models in complex, real-world reasoning domains.

3d gravity from Virasoro TQFT: Holography, wormholes and knots

We further develop the description of three-dimensional quantum gravity with negative cosmological constant in terms of Virasoro TQFT formulated in our previous paper arXiv:2304.13650. We compare the partition functions computed in the Virasoro TQFT formalism to the semiclassical evaluation of Euclidean gravity partition functions. This matching is highly non-trivial, but can be checked directly in some examples. We then showcase the formalism in action, by computing the gravity partition functions of many relevant topologies. For holographic applications, we focus on the partition functions of Euclidean multi-boundary wormholes with three-punctured spheres as boundaries. This precisely quantifies the higher moments of the structure constants in the proposed ensemble boundary dual and subjects the proposal to thorough checks. Finally, we investigate in detail the example of the figure eight knot complement as a hyperbolic 3-manifold. We show that the Virasoro TQFT partition function is identical to the partition function computed in Teichmüller theory, thus giving strong evidence for the equivalence of these TQFTs. We also show how to produce a large class of manifolds via Dehn surgery on the figure eight knot.

SYK Correlators from 2D Liouville-de Sitter Gravity

We introduce and study a candidate gravity dual to the double scaled SYK model in the form of an exactly soluble 2D de Sitter gravity model consisting of two spacelike Liouville CFTs with complex central charge adding up to $c_+ + c_- = 26$. In [1] it was shown that the two-point function of physical operators in a doubled SYK model matches in the semi-classical limit with the Green's function of a massive scalar field in 3D de Sitter space. As further evidence of the duality, we adapt a result from Zamolodchikov to compute the boundary two-point function of the 2D Liouville-de Sitter gravity model on a disk and find that it reproduces the exact DSSYK two-point function to all orders in $λ=p^2/N$. We describe how the 2D Liouville-de Sitter gravity model arises from quantizing 3D de Sitter gravity.

Solving 3d Gravity with Virasoro TQFT

We propose a precise reformulation of 3d quantum gravity with negative cosmological constant in terms of a topological quantum field theory based on the quantization of the Teichmüller space of Riemann surfaces that we refer to as ``Virasoro TQFT.'' This TQFT is similar, but importantly not equivalent, to $\text{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ Chern-Simons theory. This sharpens the folklore that 3d gravity is related to $\text{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ Chern-Simons theory into a precise correspondence, and resolves some well-known issues with this lore at the quantum level. Our proposal is computationally very useful and provides a powerful tool for the further study of 3d gravity. In particular, we explain how together with standard TQFT surgery techniques this leads to a fully algorithmic procedure for the computation of the gravity partition function on a fixed topology exactly in the central charge. Mathematically, the relation leads to many nontrivial conjectures for hyperbolic 3-manifolds, Virasoro conformal blocks and crossing kernels.

Probing Supersymmetric Black Holes with Surface Defects

It has long been conjectured that the large $N$ deconfinement phase transition of $\mathcal{N}=4$ ${\rm SU}(N)$ super-Yang-Mills corresponds via AdS/CFT to the Hawking-Page transition in which black holes dominate the thermal ensemble, and quantitative evidence of this has come through the recent matching of the superconformal index of ${1\over 16}$-BPS states to the supersymmetric black hole entropy. We introduce the half-BPS Gukov-Witten surface defect as a probe of the superconformal index, which also serves as an order parameter for the deconfinement transition. This can be studied directly in field theory as a modification of the usual unitary matrix model or in the dual description as a D3-brane probe in the background of a (complex) supersymmetric black hole. Using a saddle point approximation, we determine our defect index in the large $N$ limit as a simple function of the chemical potentials and show independently that it is reproduced by the renormalized action of the brane in the black hole background. Along the way, we also comment on the Cardy limit and the thermodynamics of the D3-brane in the generalized ensemble. The defect index sharply distinguishes between the confining and the deconfining phases of the gauge theory and thus is a supersymmetric non-perturbative order parameter for these large $N$ phase transitions which deserves further investigation. Finally, our work provides an example where the properties of a black hole coupled to an external system can be analyzed precisely.

S-duality in $T\bar{T}$-deformed CFT

$T\bar{T}$ deformed conformal field theories can be reformulated as worldsheet theories of non-critical strings. We use this correspondence to compute and study the $T\bar{T}$ deformed partition sum of a symmetric product CFT. We find that it takes the form of a partition sum of a second quantized string theory with a worldsheet given by the product of the seed CFT and a gaussian sigma model with the two-torus as target space. We show that deformed symmetric product theory admits a natural UV completion that exhibits a strong weak coupling $\mathbb{Z}_2$ duality that interchanges the momentum and winding numbers and maps the $T\bar{T}$-coupling $λ$ to its inverse $1/λ$. The $\mathbb{Z}_2$ duality is part of a full O$(2,2,\mathbb{Z})$-duality group that includes a PSL$(2,\mathbb{Z})$ acting on the complexified $T\bar{T}$ coupling. The duality symmetry eliminates the appearance of complex energies at strong coupling for all seed CFTs with central charge $c\leq 6$.
