Xpertbench: Expert Level Tasks with Rubrics-Based Evaluation

As Large Language Models (LLMs) exhibit plateauing performance on conventional benchmarks, a pivotal challenge persists: evaluating their proficiency in complex, open-ended tasks characterizing genuine expert-level cognition. Existing frameworks suffer from narrow domain coverage, reliance on generalist tasks, or self-evaluation biases. To bridge this gap, we present XpertBench, a high-fidelity benchmark engineered to assess LLMs across authentic professional domains. XpertBench consists of 1,346 meticulously curated tasks across 80 categories, spanning finance, healthcare, legal services, education, and dual-track research (STEM and Humanities). These tasks are derived from over 1,000 submissions by domain experts--including researchers from elite institutions and practitioners with extensive clinical or industrial experience--ensuring superior ecological validity. Each task uses detailed rubrics with mostly 15-40 weighted checkpoints to assess professional rigor. To facilitate scalable yet human-aligned assessment, we introduce ShotJudge, a novel evaluation paradigm that employs LLM judges calibrated with expert few-shot exemplars to mitigate self-rewarding biases. Our empirical evaluation of state-of-the-art LLMs reveals a pronounced performance ceiling: even leading models achieve a peak success rate of only ~66%, with a mean score around 55%. Models also exhibit domain-specific divergence, showing non-overlapping strengths in quantitative reasoning versus linguistic synthesis.. These findings underscore a significant "expert-gap" in current AI systems and establish XpertBench as a critical instrument for navigating the transition from general-purpose assistants to specialized professional collaborators.

EdgeNav-QE: QLoRA Quantization and Dynamic Early Exit for LAM-based Navigation on Edge Devices

Large Action Models (LAMs) have shown immense potential in autonomous navigation by bridging high-level reasoning with low-level control. However, deploying these multi-billion parameter models on edge devices remains a significant challenge due to memory constraints and latency requirements. In this paper, we propose EdgeNav-QE, a novel framework that integrates Quantized Low-Rank Adaptation (QLoRA) with a dynamic early-exit (DEE) mechanism to optimize LAMs for real-time edge navigation. By quantizing the backbone to 4-bit precision and strategically placing early-exit branches, we enable the model to terminate inference early for simple navigation tasks while retaining full depth for complex decision-making. Experimental results on the Habitat-Sim environment with Matterport3D dataset using OpenVLA-7B backbone, demonstrate that EdgeNav-QE reduces inference latency by 82.7% and memory footprint by 66.7% compared to full-precision baselines, while maintaining 81.8% navigation success rate. Furthermore, it outperforms state-of-the-art static early-exit method by 17.9% in latency, demonstrating the superiority of content-aware adaptive computation for safety-critical applications.

DiscoX: Benchmarking Discourse-Level Translation task in Expert Domains

The evaluation of discourse-level translation in expert domains remains inadequate, despite its centrality to knowledge dissemination and cross-lingual scholarly communication. While these translations demand discourse-level coherence and strict terminological precision, current evaluation methods predominantly focus on segment-level accuracy and fluency. To address this limitation, we introduce DiscoX, a new benchmark for discourse-level and expert-level Chinese-English translation. It comprises 200 professionally-curated texts from 7 domains, with an average length exceeding 1700 tokens. To evaluate performance on DiscoX, we also develop Metric-S, a reference-free system that provides fine-grained automatic assessments across accuracy, fluency, and appropriateness. Metric-S demonstrates strong consistency with human judgments, significantly outperforming existing metrics. Our experiments reveal a remarkable performance gap: even the most advanced LLMs still trail human experts on these tasks. This finding validates the difficulty of DiscoX and underscores the challenges that remain in achieving professional-grade machine translation. The proposed benchmark and evaluation system provide a robust framework for more rigorous evaluation, facilitating future advancements in LLM-based translation.

Inverse IFEval: Can LLMs Unlearn Stubborn Training Conventions to Follow Real Instructions?

Large Language Models (LLMs) achieve strong performance on diverse tasks but often exhibit cognitive inertia, struggling to follow instructions that conflict with the standardized patterns learned during supervised fine-tuning (SFT). To evaluate this limitation, we propose Inverse IFEval, a benchmark that measures models Counter-intuitive Abilitytheir capacity to override training-induced biases and comply with adversarial instructions. Inverse IFEval introduces eight types of such challenges, including Question Correction, Intentional Textual Flaws, Code without Comments, and Counterfactual Answering. Using a human-in-the-loop pipeline, we construct a dataset of 1012 high-quality Chinese and English questions across 23 domains, evaluated under an optimized LLM-as-a-Judge framework. Experiments on existing leading LLMs demonstrate the necessity of our proposed Inverse IFEval benchmark. Our findings emphasize that future alignment efforts should not only pursue fluency and factual correctness but also account for adaptability under unconventional contexts. We hope that Inverse IFEval serves as both a diagnostic tool and a foundation for developing methods that mitigate cognitive inertia, reduce overfitting to narrow patterns, and ultimately enhance the instruction-following reliability of LLMs in diverse and unpredictable real-world scenarios.

Finite time blow up for systems of wave equations with multiple speeds posed on asymptotically Euclidean manifold

In this work, we study the finite time blow-up phenomenon of three types of semilinear wave systems with multiple speeds, posed on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds. We establish the upper bound estimates for the lifespan of solutions when the spatial dimension $n\geq 2$. In particular, for system related to the Glassey conjecture, we obtained the finite time blow up results under a new curve. This new curve is sharp at least for $n=3$.

Blow-up for semilinear wave equations on Kerr black hole backgrounds

We examine solutions to semilinear wave equations on black hole backgrounds and give a proof of an analog of the blow up part of the John theorem, with $F_p(u)=|u|^{p}$, on the Schwarzschild and Kerr black hole backgrounds. Concerning the case of Schwarzschild, we construct a class of small data, so that the solution blows up along the outgoing null cone, which applies for both $F_p(u)=|u|^{p}$ and the focusing nonlinearity $F_p(u)=|u|^{p-1}u$. The proof suggests that the black hole does not have any essential influence on the formation of singularity, in the region away from the Cauchy horizon $r=r_-$ or the singularity $r=0$. Our approach is also robust enough to be adapted for general asymptotically flat space-time manifolds, possibly exterior to a compact domain, with spatial dimension $n\ge 2$. Typical examples include exterior domains, asymptotically Euclidean spaces, Reissner-Nördström space-times, and Kerr-Newman space-times.

Lifespan estimates for wave equations with damping and potential posed on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds

In this work, we investigate the problem of finite time blow up as well as the upper bound estimates of lifespan for solutions to small-amplitude semilinear wave equations with time dependent damping and potential, and mixed nonlinearities $c_1 |u_t|^p+c_2 |u|^q$, posed on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds, which is related to both the Strauss conjecture and the Glassey conjecture.

Lifespan estimates for $2$-dimensional semilinear wave equations in asymptotically Euclidean exterior domains

In this paper we study the initial boundary value problem for two-dimensional semilinear wave equations with small data, in asymptotically Euclidean exterior domains. We prove that if $1<p\le p_c(2)$, the problem admits almost the same upper bound of the lifespan as that of the corresponding Cauchy problem, only with a small loss for $1<p\le 2$. It is interesting to see that the logarithmic increase of the harmonic function in $2$-D has no influence to the estimate of the upper bound of the lifespan for $2<p\le p_c(2)$. One of the novelties is that we can deal with the problem with flat metric and general obstacles (bounded and simple connected), and it will be reduced to the corresponding problem with compact perturbation of the flat metric outside a ball.

Lifespan estimates for semilinear wave equations with space dependent damping and potential

In this work, we investigate the influence of general damping and potential terms on the blow-up and lifespan estimates for energy solutions to power-type semilinear wave equations. The space-dependent damping and potential functions are assumed to be critical or short range, spherically symmetric perturbation. The blow up results and the upper bound of lifespan estimates are obtained by the so-called test function method. The key ingredient is to construct special positive solutions to the linear dual problem with the desired asymptotic behavior, which is reduced, in turn, to constructing solutions to certain elliptic "eigenvalue" problems.

The blow up of solutions to semilinear wave equations on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds

In this paper, we investigate the problem of blow up and sharp upper bound estimates of the lifespan for the solutions to the semilinear wave equations, posed on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds. Here the metric is assumed to be exponential perturbation of the spherical symmetric, long range asymptotically Euclidean metric. One of the main ingredients in our proof is the construction of (unbounded) positive entire solutions for $Δ_{g}ϕ_λ=λ^{2}ϕ_λ$, with certain estimates which are uniform for small parameter $λ\in (0,λ_0)$. In addition, our argument works equally well for semilinear damped wave equations, when the coefficient of the dissipation term is integrable (without sign condition) and space-independent.

Blow up for small-amplitude semilinear wave equations with mixed nonlinearities on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds

In this work, we investigate the problem of finite time blow up as well as the upper bound estimates of lifespan for solutions to small-amplitude semilinear wave equations with mixed nonlinearities $a |u_t|^p+b |u|^q$, posed on asymptotically Euclidean manifolds, which is related to both the Strauss conjecture and Glassey conjecture. In some cases, we obtain existence results, where the lower bound of the lifespan agrees with the upper bound in order. In addition, our results apply for semilinear damped wave equations, when the coefficient of the dissipation term is integrable (without sign condition) and space-independent.

Concerning ill-posedness for semilinear wave equations

In this paper, we investigate the problem of optimal regularity for derivative semilinear wave equations to be locally well-posed in $H^{s}$ with spatial dimension $n \leq 5$. We show this equation, with power $2\le p\le 1+4/(n-1)$, is (strongly) ill-posed in $H^{s}$ with $s = (n+5)/4$ in general. Moreover, when the nonlinearity is quadratic we establish a characterization of the structure of nonlinear terms in terms of the regularity. As a byproduct, we give an alternative proof of the failure of the local in time endpoint scale-invariant $L_{t}^{4/(n-1)}L_{x}^{\infty}$ Strichartz estimates. Finally, as an application, we also prove ill-posed results for some semilinear half wave equations.

Quark-antiquark asymmetry of helicity distributions in the nucleon sea

We study the helicity distributions of light flavor quark-antiquark ($q \bar{q}$) pairs in the nucleon sea. The valence quarks are handled by adopting the light-cone SU(6) quark-spectator-diquark model and the sea $q \bar{q}$ pairs are treated from statistical consideration by introducing the helicity suppression factors $l_q(x)$ and $\bar l_q(x)$ to parametrize the helicity distributions of q-flavor sea quark and antiquark respectively, while $Δl_q(x)=l_q(x)-\bar l_q(x)$ represents a combined effect of helicity contribution due to sea $q \bar{q}$ pairs. From fitting the nucleon polarization asymmetries $A^N_1$ in inclusive deep inelastic scattering processes and the single-spin asymmetries $A^{W^{\pm}}_L$ in Drell-Yan type processes, we find a significant asymmetry between the quark and antiquark helicity distributions of the nucleon sea. Therefore the quark-antiquark asymmetry of helicity distributions of nucleon sea $q \bar{q}$ pairs, i.e., $Δq_s(x) \neq Δ\bar q_s(x)$, plays an important role for a comprehensive understanding of the nucleon spin content.

Global existence for the 3-D semilinear damped wave equations in the scattering case

We study the global existence of solutions to semilinear damped wave equations in the scattering case with derivative power-type nonlinearity on (1+3) dimensional nontrapping asymptotically Euclidean manifolds. The main idea is to exploit local energy estimate, together with local existence to convert the parameter $μ$ to small one.
