Quantum R\'enyi-Jarzynski Equality

The Jarzynski equality provides a strict link between nonequilibrium work and equilibrium free energy changes. Its typical quantum formulations, however, rely on measurement protocols that destroy coherence. In this Letter, we use the resource-theoretic approach to derive a non-destructive quantum Jarzynski equality conditioned on the outcomes of an arbitrary bath observable. This yields the R\'enyi-Jarzynski equality, which quantifies a finite bath's drift from equilibrium under a non-adiabatic drive via the R\'enyi $k$-divergence. We further demonstrate that the R\'enyi-Jarzynski equality provides a tunable cost function for quantum optimal control problems where minimizing bath drift is desired, such as state preparation and gate design, enabling the minimization of cross-talk in finite quantum systems. Our toy model exhibits a transition between competing minima for some critical value of $k$, illustrating how the R\'enyi order tunes sensitivity to different regions of a bath distribution. Strikingly, when drive parameters vary across bath energy levels, minimizing bath drift requires generating system-bath entanglement.

Concurrence of Symmetry Breaking and Nonlocality Phase Transitions in Diffusion Models

Diffusion models undergo a phase transition in a critical time window during generation dynamics, with two complementary diagnoses of criticality. The symmetry breaking picture views the critical window as when trajectories bifurcate into different semantic minima of the energy landscape, whereas the nonlocality picture views the critical window as when local denoising fails. We study whether two notions of such phase transitions are concurrent in modern diffusion transformers. By evaluating the dynamics and outcomes of the generation trajectory, we observe a near-simultaneous occurrence of the non-locality and symmetry breaking critical times. Our work is the first to unify the two notions of phase transitions in practice: it provides a concrete diagnostic for when and why diffusion models rely on conditioning and global denoising, enabling principled evaluation of model efficiency and guiding the design of architectures and sampling schemes that avoid unnecessary computation.

Exact analytic toolbox for quantum dynamics with tunable noise strength

We introduce a framework that allows for the exact analytic treatment of quantum dynamics subject to coherent noise. The noise is modeled via unitary evolution under a Hamiltonian drawn from a random-matrix ensemble for arbitrary Hilbert-space dimension $N$. While the methods we develop apply to generic such ensembles with a notion of rotation invariance, we focus largely on the Gaussian unitary ensemble (GUE). Averaging over the ensemble of ''noisy'' Hamiltonians produces an effective quantum channel, the properties of which are analytically calculable and determined by the spectral form factors of the relevant ensemble. We compute spectral form factors of the GUE exactly for any finite $N$, along with the corresponding GUE quantum channel, and its variance. Key advantages of our approach include the ability to access exact analytic results for any $N$ and the ability to tune to the noise-free limit (in contrast, e.g., to the Haar ensemble), and analytic access to moments beyond the variance. We also highlight some unusual features of the GUE channel, including the nonmonotonicity of the coefficients of various operators as a function of noise strength and the failure to saturate the Haar-random limit, even with infinite noise strength.

Bethe states on a quantum computer: success probability and correlation functions

A probabilistic algorithm for preparing Bethe eigenstates of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg spin chain on a quantum computer has recently been found. We derive an exact formula for the success probability of this algorithm in terms of the Gaudin determinant, and we study its large-length limit. We demonstrate the feasibility of computing antiferromagnetic ground-state spin-spin correlation functions for short chains. However, the success probability decreases exponentially with the chain length, which precludes the computation of these correlation functions for chains of moderate length. Some conjectures for estimates of the Gaudin determinant are noted in an appendix.

Nonlinear electrodynamics effects on the black hole shadow, deflection angle, quasinormal modes and greybody factors

In this paper, we discuss the effects of nonlinear electrodynamics (NED) on non-rotating black holes, parametrized by the field coupling parameter $\beta$ and magnetic charge parameter $P$ in detail. Particularly, we survey physical properties of the magnetically charged black hole, thermodynamic properties, observational appearance, quasinormal modes and absorption cross sections. We then show that the black hole gets colder with increasing charge. Investigating the heat capacity, we see that the black hole is thermally stable, which is amplified by introduction of a generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) with a quantum gravity parameter $\lambda$. Then we compute the deflection angle at the weak field limit, by the Gauss-Bonnet theorem and the geodesic equation, showing that the magnetic charge has a contribution at the first order. By ray-tracing we simulate the observational appearance of a NED black hole with thin disk and spherical accretion. We find that the parameter $P$ has a very strong effect on the shadow radius. We consider quasinormal modes under massless scalar perturbations of the black hole and the greybody factor. We find that the charge introduces a slight difference in the fundamental frequency and that the greybody factor of the NED black hole is strongly steepened by the introduction of increasing charge. To present observational constrains, we show that the magnetic charge of the M87* black hole is between $0\leq P\leq0.024$ in units of M, in agreement with the idea that real astrophysical black holes are mostly neutral. We also find that LIGO/VIRGO and LISA could detect NED black hole perturbations from BHs with masses between $5M_\odot$ and $8.0\cdot 10^8\,M_\odot$. We finally show that for black holes with masses detected with LIGO so far, charged NED black holes would deviate from Schwarzschild by $5\sim 10$ Hz in their fundamental frequencies.
