Integrable discrete systems on R and related dispersionless systems

The general framework for integrable discrete systems on R in particular containing lattice soliton systems and their q-deformed analogues is presented. The concept of regular grain structures on R, generated by discrete one-parameter groups of diffeomorphisms, through which one can define algebras of shift operators is introduced. Two integrable hierarchies of discrete chains together with bi-Hamiltonian structures are constructed. Their continuous limit and the inverse problem based on the deformation quantization scheme are considered.

Integrable nonlinear equations on a circle

The concept of integrable boundary value problems for soliton equations on $\mathbb{R}$ and $\mathbb{R}_+$ is extended to bounded regions enclosed by smooth curves. Classes of integrable boundary conditions on a circle for the Toda lattice and its reductions are found.

Closed timelike curves and geodesics of Godel-type metrics

It is shown explicitly that when the characteristic vector field that defines a Godel-type metric is also a Killing vector, there always exist closed timelike or null curves in spacetimes described by such a metric. For these geometries, the geodesic curves are also shown to be characterized by a lower dimensional Lorentz force equation for a charged point particle in the relevant Riemannian background. Moreover, two explicit examples are given for which timelike and null geodesics can never be closed.

KdV Surfaces

We consider 2-surfaces arising from the Korteweg de Vries (KdV) equation. The surfaces corresponding to KdV are in a three dimensional Minkowski space. They contain a family of quadratic Weingarten and Willmore-like surfaces. We show that a subset of KdV surfaces can be obtained from a variational principle where the Lagrange function is a polynomial function of the Gaussian and mean curvatures. We finally give a method for constructing the surfaces explicitly, i.e., finding their parametrizations or finding their position vectors.

Integrable Equations on Time Scales

Integrable systems are usually given in terms of functions of continuous variables (on ${\mathbb R}$), functions of discrete variables (on ${\mathbb Z}$) and recently in terms of functions of $q$-variables (on ${\mathbb K}_{q}$). We formulate the Gel'fand-Dikii (GD) formalism on time scales by using the delta differentiation operator and find more general integrable nonlinear evolutionary equations. In particular they yield integrable equations over integers (difference equations) and over $q$-numbers ($q$-difference equations). We formulate the GD formalism also in terms of shift operators for all regular-discrete time scales. We give a method to construct the recursion operators for integrable systems on time scales. Finally, we give a trace formula on time scales and then construct infinitely many conserved quantities (Casimirs) of the integrable systems on time scales.

Godel-type Metrics in Various Dimensions II: Inclusion of a Dilaton Field

This is the continuation of an earlier work where Godel-type metrics were defined and used for producing new solutions in various dimensions. Here a simplifying technical assumption is relaxed which, among other things, basically amounts to introducing a dilaton field to the models considered. It is explicitly shown that the conformally transformed Godel-type metrics can be used in solving a rather general class of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton-3-form field theories in D >= 6 dimensions. All field equations can be reduced to a simple "Maxwell equation" in the relevant (D-1)-dimensional Riemannian background due to a neat construction that relates the matter fields. These tools are then used in obtaining exact solutions to the bosonic parts of various supergravity theories. It is shown that there is a wide range of suitable backgrounds that can be used in producing solutions. For the specific case of (D-1)-dimensional trivially flat Riemannian backgrounds, the D-dimensional generalizations of the well known Majumdar-Papapetrou metrics of general relativity arise naturally.

Multi Shell Model for Majumdar-Papapetrau Spacetimes

Exact solutions to static and non-static Einstein-Maxwell equations in the presence of extremely charged dust embedded on thin shells are constructed. Singularities of multi-black hole Majumdar-Papapetrou and Kastor-Trashen solutions are removed by placing the matter on thin shells. Double spherical thin shell solution is given as an illustration and the matter densitiies on the shells are derived.

On a transformation between hierarchies of integrable equations

A transforation between a hierarchy of integrable equations arising from the standard $R$-matrix construction on the algebra of differential operators and a hierarchy of integrable equations arising from a deformation of the standard $R$-matrix is given.

Accelerated Levi-Civita-Bertotti-Robinson Metric in D-Dimensions

A conformally flat accelerated charge metric is found in an arbitrary dimension $D$. It is a solution of the Einstein-Maxwell-null fluid with a cosmological constant in $D \ge 4$ dimensions. When the acceleration is zero our solution reduces to the Levi-Civita-Bertotti-Robinson metric. We show that the charge loses its energy, for all dimensions, due to the acceleration.

Some Bi-Hamiltonian Equations in $R^3$

Hamiltonian formulation of N=3 systems is considered in general. The Jacobi equation is solved in three classes. Compatible Poisson structures in these classes are determined and explicitly given. The corresponding bi-Hamiltonian systems are constructed and some explicit examples are given.

Some Further Properties of the Accelerated Kerr-Schild Metrics

We extend the previously found accelerated Kerr-Schild metrics for Einstein-Maxwell-null dust and Einstein-Born-Infeld-null dust equations to the cases including the cosmological constant. This way we obtain the generalization of the charged de Sitter metrics in static space-times. We also give a generalization of the zero acceleration limit of our previous Einstein-Maxwell and Einstein-Born-Infeld solutions.

Lienard-Wiechert Potentials in Even Dimensions

The motion of point charged particles is considered in an even dimensional Minkowski space-time. The potential functions corresponding to the massless scalar and the Maxwell fields are derived algorithmically. It is shown that in all even dimensions particles lose energy due to acceleration.

All Poisson Structures in $R^3$

Hamiltonian formulation of N=3 systems is considered in general. The most general solution of the Jacobi equation in ${\mathbb R}^3$ is proposed. Compatible Poisson structures and the corresponding bi-Hamiltonian N=3 systems are also discussed.

Time Dependent Recursion Operators and Symmetries

The recursion operators and symmetries of non-autonomous, (1+1)-dimensional integrable evolution equations are considered. It has been previously observed that the symmetries of the integrable evolution equations obtained through their recursion operators do not satisfy the symmetry equations. There have been several attempts to resolve this problem. It is shown that in the case of time dependent evolution equations or time dependent recursion operators, associativity is lost. Due to this fact such recursion operators need modifications. A general formula is given for the missing term of the recursion operators. Apart from the recursion operators a method is introduced to calculate the correct symmetries. For illustrations several examples of scalar and coupled system of equations are considered.

Higher Dimensional Metrics of Colliding Gravitational Plane Waves

We give a higher even dimensional extension of vacuum colliding gravitational plane waves with the combinations of collinear and non-collinear polarized four-dimensional metric. The singularity structure of space-time depends on the parameters of the solution.

Accelerated Born-Infeld Metrics in Kerr-Schild Geometry

We consider Einstein Born-Infeld theory with a null fluid in Kerr-Schild Geometry. We find accelerated charge solutions of this theory. Our solutions reduce to the Plebanski solution when the acceleration vanishes and to the Bonnor-Vaidya solution as the Born-Infeld parameter b goes to infinity. We also give the explicit form of the energy flux formula due to the acceleration of the charged sources.
