Collaborative Optimization Framework of Battery Charging / Swapping Stations for eVTOLs Based on Closed-Loop Supply Chain and Space-Time Network

Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, by virtue of their advantages such as high efficiency, environmental friendliness, and low noise, are regarded as an effective means of alleviating urban traffic congestion. Although eVTOLs have policy support, industrial foundations, and market prospects globally, their commercialization process still faces obstacles. Purely electric eVTOLs confront constraints including limited battery energy density, high operational power requirements, and challenges associated with rapid energy replenishment, which collectively restrict their flight endurance and application scenarios. To tackle these issues, following an investigation into battery energy replenishment strategies, a closed-loop supply chain-based optimization framework for eVTOL battery charging and swapping is proposed. First, a time-space network technique is employed to solve the modeling challenge of an efficient and flexible battery transportation system between charging stations and swapping stations. Subsequently, aiming to maximize the operational revenue of the model, optimized management of battery swapping, transportation, and charging processes is implemented, facilitating coordinated operation among eVTOLs, swapping stations, and charging stations. On this basis, the model is solved by Gurobi, verifying its feasibility. Finally, the results of sensitivity analysis show that the model performs excellently in several aspects, including battery swap service quality, system sustainability, and operational resilience.

Stagnant Neuron: Towards Understanding the Plasticity Loss in Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning Value Factorization Methods

Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL) value factorization methods can suffer from a loss of plasticity, gradually failing to adapt when transferring to new task instances. We trace this issue to stagnant neurons, units whose gradient updates become negligibly small relative to their weights, thereby hindering learning. While existing plasticity injection methods exist, they prove ineffective for such neurons. To address this, we propose Knowledge-retentive Neuron-level PlastIcity Focusing InjEction (KNIFE), a novel method that directly targets stagnant neurons. KNIFE replaces each stagnant neuron with a composite unit comprising three specialized components: a frozen knowledge neuron to preserve acquired knowledge, a re-initialized active neuron to restore learning capacity, and a compensation neuron to ensure the combined output matches the original, thus maintaining previous learned cooperation knowledge. Extensive experiments on SMACv2, predator-prey, and matrix games demonstrate that KNIFE significantly outperforms state-of-the-art plasticity injection methods.

Artificial Intelligence for Power-Converter-Rich Electrical Systems: A Review

Power-converter-rich electrical systems, formed by renewable generation, electrified transportation, and inverter-based resources, exhibit strongly nonlinear dynamics, multi-physics design tradeoffs, fast control requirements, and growing reliability and cybersecurity constraints. These characteristics strain workflows that rely only on physics-based modeling, sequential optimization, and rule-based operation. This paper reviews artificial intelligence (AI) for power-converter-rich electrical systems through a life-cycle and deployment-readiness perspective. The literature is organized across converter design, real-time control, system-level operation, and compliance-oriented governance. For design, we examine surrogate modeling, topology and parameter synthesis, EMI/EMC-aware optimization, reliability-oriented design, and knowledge-assisted workflows. For control, we compare supervised learning, reinforcement learning, learning-augmented predictive control, and safety-constrained learning according to their role in closed-loop implementation. For operations, we focus on microgrid coordination, forecasting, distribution-system observability, privacy-preserving coordination, and cyber-resilient operation where converter-interfaced resources shape the operating problem. Across these stages, the review emphasizes deployment-critical gaps, including stability certification, constraint satisfaction, interpretability, extrapolation, data efficiency, sim-to-real transfer, embedded latency, cybersecurity, privacy, and standards alignment. The resulting taxonomy is intended to clarify where AI is already useful as an engineering support tool and where further validation is needed before autonomous or safety-critical deployment.

Coordinated Optimal Power Quality Management in Distribution Systems Using The Residual Capacity of Community IBRs

This letter proposes a network-wide coordinated optimization model to mitigate voltage unbalance (VU) by unleashing the remaining capacity of community inverter-based resources (IBRs). Existing single-sequence strategies ignore coupled capacity constraints and cause idle headroom. Meanwhile, they fail to harness the collective governance capabilities of community IBRs. To solve this discrepancy and exploit the unused potential, we developed a sequence-domain network model in dual commonly shared synchronous reference frames. Strict phase current and apparent power limits are formulated and convexified via polyhedral approximations. A quadratic objective function flexibly balances sequence capacity allocation. Simulation and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Full-Time-Scale Power Management Strategy for Hybrid AC/DC/DS Microgrid with Dynamic Concatenation and Autonomous Frequency / Voltage Restorations

Hybrid AC/DC microgrids with distributed energy storage (DS) improve power reliability in remote areas. Existing power management methods either focus on steady-state power sharing or transient inertia support, but rarely combine both. They also often ignore frequency and voltage deviations caused by droop control, which can harm sensitive loads. To overcome these issues, this paper proposes a full-time-scale (FTS) power management strategy that unifies transient inertia sharing and steady-state power allocation through a novel dynamic concatenator. It also introduces autonomous frequency/voltage restoration to eliminate steady-state deviations in each subgrid. Additionally, a global equivalent circuit model (GECM) is developed to simplify system analysis and design. Experiments confirm that the approach maintains nominal frequency and voltage in steady state while enabling seamless transition between transient inertia support and proportional power sharing across all time scales.

Transient Power Allocation Control Scheme for Hybrid Hydrogen Electrolyzer-Supercapacitor System with Autonomous Inertia Response

This paper proposes a hybrid hydrogen electrolyzer-supercapacitor system (HESS) with a novel control strategy for renewable-dominant power grids. The HESS consists of alkaline electrolyzers (AEL), proton exchange membrane electrolyzers (PEMEL), and supercapacitors (SC). The interfacing inverters between HESS and power grid are regulated by an inertia emulation control strategy. From HESS, AEL is with conventional DC power control, whereas PEMEL and SC are designed with the proposed dynamic inertia control and capacitive inertia control, respectively. Benefitting from the coordination of three controls, within the HESS, high-frequency transient power components are autonomously handled by SC, stable frequency power components are regulated by PEMEL, and low-frequency steady-state power is addressed by AEL, characterized by low operational gains and longer lifetimes. SC delivers transient power, significantly alleviating energy losses on electrolyzers and achieving adequate inertia recovery capabilities while requiring no additional communication. Implementing SOC recovery control enables the SC to withstand more than three times more stability discharge cycles compared to an SC without SOC recovery. Furthermore, a large-signal mathematical model based on mixed potential theory is established, providing clear stability boundaries for system parameters. Dynamic analyses theoretically verify system feasibility, and extensive hardware-in-the-loop experimental results fully validate the proposed HESS along with the corresponding transient power allocation controls.

ReXGroundingCT: A 3D Chest CT Dataset for Segmentation of Findings from Free-Text Reports

We introduce ReXGroundingCT, the first publicly available dataset linking free-text findings to pixel-level 3D segmentations in chest CT scans. The dataset includes 3,142 non-contrast chest CT scans paired with standardized radiology reports from CT-RATE. Construction followed a structured three-stage pipeline. First, GPT-4 was used to extract and standardize findings, descriptors, and metadata from reports originally written in Turkish and machine-translated into English. Second, GPT-4o-mini categorized each finding into a hierarchical ontology of lung and pleural abnormalities. Third, 3D annotations were produced for all CT volumes: the training set was quality-assured by board-certified radiologists, and the validation and test sets were fully annotated by board-certified radiologists. Additionally, a complementary chain-of-thought dataset was created to provide step-by-step hierarchical anatomical reasoning for localizing findings within the CT volume, using GPT-4o and localization coordinates derived from organ segmentation models. ReXGroundingCT contains 16,301 annotated entities across 8,028 text-to-3D-segmentation pairs, covering diverse radiological patterns from 3,142 non-contrast CT scans. About 79% of findings are focal abnormalities and 21% are non-focal. The dataset includes a public validation set of 50 cases and a private test set of 100 cases, both annotated by board-certified radiologists. The dataset establishes a foundation for enabling free-text finding segmentation and grounded radiology report generation in CT imaging. Model performance on the private test set is hosted on a public leaderboard at https://rexrank.ai/ReXGroundingCT. The dataset is available at https://huggingface.co/datasets/rajpurkarlab/ReXGroundingCT.

RT-SRTS: Angle-Agnostic Real-Time Simultaneous 3D Reconstruction and Tumor Segmentation from Single X-Ray Projection

Radiotherapy is one of the primary treatment methods for tumors, but the organ movement caused by respiration limits its accuracy. Recently, 3D imaging from a single X-ray projection has received extensive attention as a promising approach to address this issue. However, current methods can only reconstruct 3D images without directly locating the tumor and are only validated for fixed-angle imaging, which fails to fully meet the requirements of motion control in radiotherapy. In this study, a novel imaging method RT-SRTS is proposed which integrates 3D imaging and tumor segmentation into one network based on multi-task learning (MTL) and achieves real-time simultaneous 3D reconstruction and tumor segmentation from a single X-ray projection at any angle. Furthermore, the attention enhanced calibrator (AEC) and uncertain-region elaboration (URE) modules have been proposed to aid feature extraction and improve segmentation accuracy. The proposed method was evaluated on fifteen patient cases and compared with three state-of-the-art methods. It not only delivers superior 3D reconstruction but also demonstrates commendable tumor segmentation results. Simultaneous reconstruction and segmentation can be completed in approximately 70 ms, significantly faster than the required time threshold for real-time tumor tracking. The efficacies of both AEC and URE have also been validated in ablation studies. The code of work is available at https://github.com/ZywooSimple/RT-SRTS.

Epidemic Spreading in a Social Network with Facial Masks wearing Individuals

In this paper, we present a susceptible-infected-recovered (SIR) model with individuals wearing facial masks and individuals who do not. The disease transmission rates, the recovering rates and the fraction of individuals who wear masks are all time dependent in the model. We develop a progressive estimation of the disease transmission rates and the recovering rates based on the COVID-19 data published by John Hopkins University. We determine the fraction of individual who wear masks by a maximum likelihood estimation, which maximizes the transition probability of a stochastic susceptible-infected-recovered model. The transition probability is numerically difficult to compute if the number of infected individuals is large. We develop an approximation for the transition probability based on central limit theorem and mean field approximation. We show through numerical study that our approximation works well. We develop a bond percolation analysis to predict the eventual fraction of population who are infected, assuming that parameters of the SIR model do not change anymore. We predict the outcome of COVID-19 pandemic using our theory.

Self-Adaptive Amplified Spontaneous Emission Suppression with a Photorefractive Two-Beam Coupling Filter

Amplified spontaneous emission is a source of broadband noise that parasitically limits the achievable gain in laser amplifiers. While optical bandpass filtering elements can suppress these broadband noise contributions, such filters are typically designed around specific frequencies or require manual tuning, rendering them less compatible with tunable laser systems. Here, we introduce a nonlinear self-adaptive filter and demonstrate the suppression of amplified spontaneous emission surrounding the lasing mode of a tunable 780 nm external cavity diode laser, using the two-beam coupling interaction in photorefractive BaTiO$_3$. A peak suppression of $-$10 dB is observed $\pm$2.5 nm from the lasing mode, with an overall 50% filter power throughput. The dynamic photorefractive filter is automatically centered on the peak frequency due to the continuous writing and readout of the volume holographic grating and can thereby also automatically adapt to frequency tuning, drift, or mode hopping with an estimated auto-tuning rate of 100 GHz/s under typical conditions. Additionally, we present opportunities for enhancing filter suppression characteristics via the input intensity ratio and tuning the bandwidth via the coupling angle, toward versatile, self-adaptive optical filtering.

A Generalized Configuration Model with Degree Correlations and Its Percolation Analysis

In this paper we present a generalization of the classical configuration model. Like the classical configuration model, the generalized configuration model allows users to specify an arbitrary degree distribution. In our generalized configuration model, we partition the stubs in the configuration model into b blocks of equal sizes and choose a permutation function h for these blocks. In each block, we randomly designate a number proportional to q of stubs as type 1 stubs, where q is a parameter in the range [0; 1]. Other stubs are designated as type 2 stubs. To construct a network, randomly select an unconnected stub. Suppose that this stub is in block i. If it is a type 1 stub, connect this stub to a randomly selected unconnected type 1 stub in block h(i). If it is a type 2 stub, connect it to a randomly selected unconnected type 2 stub. We repeat this process until all stubs are connected. Under an assumption, we derive a closed form for the joint degree distribution of two random neighboring vertices in the constructed graph. Based on this joint degree distribution, we show that the Pearson degree correlation function is linear in q for any fixed b. By properly choosing h, we show that our construction algorithm can create assortative networks as well as disassortative networks. We present a percolation analysis of this model. We verify our results by extensive computer simulations.
