Cluster structures on simple complex Lie groups and the Belavin-Drinfeld classification

We study natural cluster structures in the rings of regular functions on simple complex Lie groups and Poisson-Lie structures compatible with these cluster structures. According to our main conjecture, each class in the Belavin-Drinfeld classification of Poisson-Lie structures on $\G$ corresponds to a cluster structure in $Ø(\G)$. We prove a reduction theorem explaining how different parts of the conjecture are related to each other. The conjecture is established for $SL_n$, $n<5$, and for any $\G$ in the case of the standard Poisson-Lie structure.

Poisson Geometry of Directed Networks in an Annulus

As a generalization of Postnikov's construction (see arXiv: math/0609764), we define a map from the space of edge weights of a directed network in an annulus into a space of loops in the Grassmannian. We then show that universal Poisson brackets introduced for the space of edge weights in arXiv: 0805.3541 induce a family of Poisson structures on rational-valued matrix functions and on the space of loops in the Grassmannian. In the former case, this family includes, for a particular kind of networks, the Poisson bracket associated with the trigonometric R-matrix.

Generalized Bäcklund-Darboux transformations for Coxeter-Toda flows from a cluster algebra perspective

We present the third in the series of papers describing Poisson properties of planar directed networks in the disk or in the annulus. In this paper we concentrate on special networks N_{u,v} in the disk that correspond to the choice of a pair (u,v) of Coxeter elements in the symmetric group and the corresponding networks N_{u,v}^\circ in the annulus. Boundary measurements for N_{u,v} represent elements of the Coxeter double Bruhat cell G^{u,v} in GL_n. The Cartan subgroup acts on G^{u,v} by conjugation. The standard Poisson structure on the space of weights of N_{u,v} induces a Poisson structure on G^{u,v}, and hence on its quotient by the Cartan subgroup, which makes the latter into the phase space for an appropriate Coxeter--Toda lattice. The boundary measurement for N_{u,v}^\circ is a rational function that coincides up to a nonzero factor with the Weyl function for the boundary measurement for N_{u,v}. The corresponding Poisson bracket on the space of weights of N_{u,v}^\circ induces a Poisson bracket on the certain space of rational functions, which appeared previously in the context of Toda flows. Following the ideas developed in our previous papers, we introduce a cluster algebra A on this space, compatible with the obtained Poisson bracket. Generalized Bäcklund--Darboux transformations map solutions of one Coxeter--Toda lattice to solutions of another preserving the corresponding Weyl function. Using network representation, we construct generalized Bäcklund-Darboux transformations as appropriate sequences of cluster transformations in A.

Poisson structures compatible with the cluster algebra structure in Grassmannians

We describe all Poisson brackets compatible with the natural cluster algebra structure in the open Schubert cell of the Grassmannian $G_k(n)$ and show that any such bracket endows $G_k(n)$ with a structure of a Poisson homogeneous space with respect to the natural action of $SL_n$ equipped with an R-matrix Poisson-Lie structure. The corresponding R-matrices belong to the simplest class in the Belavin-Drinfeld classification. Moreover, every compatible Poisson structure can be obtained this way.

Poisson Geometry of Directed Networks in a Disk

We investigate Poisson properties of Postnikov's map from the space of edge weights of a planar directed network into the Grassmannian. We show that this map is Poisson if the space of edge weights is equipped with a representative of a 6-parameter family of universal quadratic Poisson brackets and the Grasmannian is viewed as a Poisson homogeneous space of the general linear group equipped with an appropriately chosen R-matrix Poisson-Lie structure. We also prove that Poisson brackets on the Grassmannian arising in this way are compatible with the natural cluster algebra structure.

Completeness of determinantal Hamiltonian flows on the matrix affine Poisson space

The matrix affine Poisson space (M_{m,n}, pi_{m,n}) is the space of complex rectangular matrices equipped with a canonical quadratic Poisson structure which in the square case m=n reduces to the standard Poisson structure on GL_n(C). We prove that the Hamiltonian flows of all minors are complete. As a corollary we obtain that all Kogan-Zelevinsky integrable systems on M_{n,n} are complete and thus induce (analytic) Hamiltonian actions of C^{n(n-1)/2} on (M_{n,n}, pi_{n,n}) (as well as on GL_n(C) and on SL_n(C)). We define Gelfand-Zeitlin integrable systems on (M_{n,n}, pi_{n,n}) from chains of Poisson projections and prove that their flows are also complete. This is an analog for the quadratic Poisson structure pi_{n,n} of the recent result of Kostant and Wallach [KW] that the flows of the complexified classical Gelfand-Zeitlin integrable systems are complete.

Spin Calogero Particles and Bispectral Solutions of the Matrix KP Hierarchy

Pairs of $n\times n$ matrices whose commutator differ from the identity by a matrix of rank $r$ are used to construct bispectral differential operators with $r\times r$ matrix coefficients satisfying the Lax equations of the Matrix KP hierarchy. Moreover, the bispectral involution on these operators has dynamical significance for the spin Calogero particles system whose phase space such pairs represent. In the case $r=1$, this reproduces well-known results of Wilson and others from the 1990's relating (spinless) Calogero-Moser systems to the bispectrality of (scalar) differential operators. This new class of pairs $(L, Λ)$ of bispectral matrix differential operators is different than those previously studied in that $L$ acts from the left, but $Λ$ from the right on a common $r\times r$ eigenmatrix.

Multi-Hamiltonian structure for the finite defocusing Ablowitz-Ladik equation

We study the Poisson structure associated to the defocusing Ablowitz-Ladik equation from a functional-analytical point of view, by reexpressing the Poisson bracket in terms of the associated Caratheodory function. Using this expression, we are able to introduce a family of compatible Poisson brackets which form a multi-Hamiltonian structure for the Ablowitz-Ladik equation. Furthermore, we show using some of these new Poisson brackets that the Geronimus relations between orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle and those on the interval define an algebraic and symplectic mapping between the Ablowitz-Ladik and Toda hierarchies.

On KP Generators and the Geometry of the HBDE

Sato theory provides a correspondence between solutions to the KP hierarchy and points in an infinite dimensional Grassmannian. In this correspondence, flows generated infinitesimally by powers of the ``shift'' operator give time dependence to the first coordinate of an arbitrarily selected point, making it a tau-function. These tau-functions satisfy a number of integrable equations, including the Hirota Bilinear Difference Equation (HBDE). Here, we rederive the HBDE as a statement about linear maps between Grassmannians. In addition to illustrating the fundamental nature of this equation in the standard theory, we make use of this geometric interpretation of the HBDE to answer the question of what other infinitesimal generators could be used for similarly creating tau-functions. The answer to this question involves a ``rank one condition'', tying this investigation to the existing results on integrable systems involving such conditions and providing an interpretation for their significance in terms of the relationship between the HBDE and the geometry of Grassmannians.

Integrable Systems and Rank One Conditions for Rectangular Matrices

We provide a determinantal formula for tau-functions of the KP hierarchy in terms of rectangular, constant matrices $A$, $B$ and $C$ satisfying a rank one condition. This result is shown to generalize and unify many previous results of different authors on constructions of tau-functions for differential and difference integrable systems from square matrices satisfying rank one conditions. In particular, it contains as explicit special cases the formula of Wilson for tau-functions of rational KP solutions in terms of Calogero-Moser Lax matrices as well as our previous formula for KP tau functions in terms of almost-intertwining matrices.

Cluster algebras and Weil-Petersson forms

In our previous paper we have discussed Poisson properties of cluster algebras of geometric type for the case of a nondegenerate matrix of transition exponents. In this paper we consider the case of a general matrix of transition exponents. Our leading idea that a relevant geometric object in this case is a certain closed 2-form compatible with the cluster algebra structure. The main example is provided by Penner coordinates on the decorated Teichmueller space, in which case the above form coincides with the classic Weil-Petersson symplectic form.

Solitons and Almost-Intertwining Matrices

We define the set of almost-intertwining matrices to be all triples(X,Y,Z) of n x n matrices for which XZ=YX+T for some rank one matrix T. A surprisingly simple formula is given for tau-functions of the KP hierarchy in terms of such triples. The tau-functions produced in this way include the soliton and vanishing rational solutions. The induced dynamics of the eigenvalues of the matrix X are considered, leading in special cases to the Ruijsenaars-Schneider particle system.

On billiard weak solutions of nonlinear PDE's and Toda flows

A certain class of partial differential equations possesses singular solutions having discontinuous first derivatives ("peakons"). The time evolution of peaks of such solutions is governed by a finite dimensional completely integrable system. Explicit solutions of this system are constructed by using algebraic-geometric method which casts it as a flow on an appropriate Riemann surface and reduces it to a classical Jacobi inversion problem. The algebraic structure of the finite dimensional flow is also examined in the context of the Toda flow hierarchy. Generalized peakon systems are obtained for any simple Lie algebra and their complete integrability is demonstrated.
