Holographic line defects in F(4) gauged supergravity

In this note we construct a solution of six-dimensional $F(4)$ gauged supergravity using $AdS_2\times S^3$ warped over an interval as an ansatz. The solution is completely regular, preserves eight of the sixteen supersymmetries of the $AdS_6$ vacuum and is a holographic realization of a line defect in a dual five-dimensional theory. We calculate the expectation value of the defect and the one-point function of the stress tensor in the presence of the defect using holographic renormalization.

Relating AdS$_6$ solutions in type IIB supergravity

In this note we show that the IIB supergravity solutions of the form AdS$_6\times M_4$ found by Apruzzi et al. are related to the local solutions found by D'Hoker et al. We also discuss how the global regular solutions found by D'Hoker et al. are mapped to the parameterization of Apruzzi et al.

Spin 2 operators in holographic 4d $\mathcal N=2$ SCFTs

A broad class of holographic duals for 4d $\mathcal N=2$ SCFTs is based on the general half-BPS $AdS_5$ solutions to M-theory constructed by Lin, Lunin and Maldacena, and their Kaluza-Klein reductions to Type IIA. We derive the equations governing spin 2 fluctuations around these solutions. The resulting partial differential equations admit families of universal solutions which are constructed entirely out of the generic data characterizing the background. This implies the existence of families of spin 2 operators in the dual SCFTs, in short superconformal multiplets which we identify.

Topological interfaces in Chern-Simons theory and $AdS_3/CFT_2$

Recently, topological interfaces between three-dimensional abelian Chern-Simons theories were constructed. In this note we investigate such topological interfaces in the context of the $AdS_3/CFT_2$ correspondence. We show that it is possible to connect the topological interfaces in the bulk Chern-Simons theory to topological interfaces in the dual CFT on the boundary. In addition for $[U(1)]^{2N}$ Chern-Simons theory on $AdS_3$, we show that it is possible to find boundary counter terms which lead to the $N$ conserved currents in the dual two-dimensional CFT.

Conformal Defect Solutions in $N=2,D=4$ Gauged Supergravity

We consider conformal defect solutions in four dimensional $N=2$ gauged supergravity. These solutions are constructed as a warped product of $AdS_2\times S^1$ over an interval with non-trivial electric and magnetic fields. We show for minimal gauged supergravity and for gauged supergravity with vector multiplets and abelian gauging that supersymmetric defect solutions are only possible when the geometry has a conical defect in either the bulk or the boundary metric.

Massive spin 2 excitations in $AdS_6\times S^2$ warped spacetimes

We study (massive) spin-2 fluctuations around warped $AdS_6$ solutions with $16$ supersymmetries in type IIB supergravity. We identify two classes of fluctuations which are universally present for all solutions of this form. The holographically dual operators have scaling dimensions $Δ=5+3\ell$ and $Δ=6+3\ell$, where the integer $\ell$ encodes the $R$-symmetry charge. They are identified as descendant states in respective BPS multiplets (the current multiplet for $Δ=5$). We also compute the normalization of the energy-momentum tensor two-point function and show that it is related to the $S^5$ partition function of the dual $5d$ SCFTs.

Type IIB 7-branes in warped $AdS_6$: partition functions, brane webs and probe limit

We study Type IIB supergravity solutions with spacetime of the form $AdS_6\times S^2$ warped over a Riemann surface $Σ$, where $Σ$ includes punctures around which the supergravity fields have non-trivial $SL(2,R)$ monodromy. Solutions without monodromy have a compelling interpretation as near-horizon limits of $(p,q)$ 5-brane webs, and the punctures have been interpreted as additional 7-branes in the web. In this work we provide further support for this interpretation and clarify several aspects of the identification of the supergravity solutions with brane webs. To further support the identification of the punctures with 7-branes, we show that punctures with infinitesimal monodromy match a probe 7-brane analysis using $κ$-symmetry. We then construct families of solutions with fixed 5-brane charges and punctures with finite monodromy, corresponding to fully backreacted 7-branes. We compute the sphere partition functions of the dual 5d SCFTs and use the results to discuss concrete brane web interpretations of the supergravity solutions.

Warped $AdS_6\times S^2$ in Type IIB supergravity II: Global solutions and five-brane webs

Motivated by the construction of holographic duals to five-dimensional superconformal quantum field theories, we obtain global solutions to Type IIB supergravity invariant under the superalgebra $F(4)$ on a space-time of the form $AdS_6 \times S^2$ warped over a two-dimensional Riemann surface $Σ$. In earlier work, the general local solutions were expressed in terms of two locally holomorphic functions $\mathcal A_\pm$ on $Σ$ and global solutions were sketched when $Σ$ is a disk. In the present paper, the physical regularity conditions on the supergravity fields required for global solutions are implemented on $\mathcal A_\pm$ for arbitrary $Σ$. Global solutions exist only when $Σ$ has a non-empty boundary $\partial Σ$. The differentials $\partial \mathcal A_\pm$ are allowed to have poles only on $\partial Σ$ and each pole corresponds to a semi-infinite $(p,q)$ five-brane. The construction for the disk is carried out in detail and the conditions for the existence of global solutions are articulated for surfaces with more than one boundary and higher genus.

Holographic duals for five-dimensional superconformal quantum field theories

We construct global solutions to Type IIB supergravity with 16 residual supersymmetries whose space-time is $AdS_6 \times S^2$ warped over a Riemann surface. Families of solutions are labeled by an arbitrary number $L\geq 3$ of asymptotic regions, in each of which the supergravity fields match those of a $(p,q)$ five-brane, and may therefore be viewed as near-horizon limits of fully localized intersections of five-branes in Type IIB string theory. These solutions provide compelling candidates for holographic duals to a large class of five-dimensional superconformal quantum field theories which arise as non-trivial UV fixed points of perturbatively non-renormalizable Yang-Mills theories, thereby making them more directly accessible to quantitative analysis.

Mass deformations of 5d SCFTs via holography

Using six-dimensional Euclidean $F(4)$ gauged supergravity we construct a holographic renormalization group flow for a CFT on $S^5$. Numerical solutions to the BPS equations are obtained and the free energy of the theory on $S^5$ is determined holographically by calculation of the renormalized on-shell supergravity action. In the process, we deal with subtle issues such as holographic renormalization and addition of finite counterterms. We then propose a candidate field theory dual to these solutions. This tentative dual is a supersymmetry-preserving deformation of the strongly-coupled non-Lagrangian SCFT derived from the D4-D8 system in string theory. In the IR, this theory is a mass deformation of a $USp(2N)$ gauge theory. A localization calculation of the free energy is performed for this IR theory, which for reasonably small values of the deformation parameter is found to match with the free energy calculated holographically.

Warped $AdS_6\times S^2$ in Type IIB supergravity I: Local solutions

We investigate the existence of solutions with 16 residual supersymmetries to Type IIB supergravity on a space-time of the form $AdS_6 \times S^2$ warped over a two-dimensional Riemann surface $Σ$. The $SO(2,5) \times SO(3)$ isometry extends to invariance under the exceptional Lie superalgebra $F(4)$. In the present paper, we construct the general Ansatz compatible with these symmetries, derive the corresponding reduced BPS equations, and obtain their complete local solution in terms of two locally holomorphic functions ${\cal A}_\pm$ on $Σ$, subject to certain positivity and regularity conditions. Globally, $({\cal A}_+, {\cal A}_-)$ are allowed to be multiple-valued on $Σ$ and be holomorphic sections of a holomorphic bundle over $Σ$ with structure group contained in $SU(1,1) \times { C}$. Globally regular solutions are expected to provide the near-horizon geometry of $(p,q)$ 5-brane and 7-brane webs which are holographic duals to five-dimensional conformal field theories. A preliminary analysis of the positivity and regularity conditions will be presented here, leaving the construction of globally regular solutions to a subsequent paper.

Janus solutions in six-dimensional gauged supergravity

Motivated by an analysis of the sub-superalgebras of the five-dimensional superconformal algebra $F(4)$, we search for the holographic duals to co-dimension one superconformal defects in 5d CFTs which have $SO(4,2) \oplus U(1)$ bosonic symmetry. In particular, we look for domain wall solutions to six-dimensional $F(4)$ gauged supergravity coupled to a single vector multiplet. It is found that supersymmetric domain wall solutions do not exist unless there is a non-trivial profile for one of the vector multiplet scalars which is charged under the gauged $SU(2)$ R-symmetry. This non-trivial profile breaks the $SU(2)$ to $U(1)$, thus matching expectations from the superalgebra analysis. A consistent set of BPS equations is then obtained and solved numerically. While the numerical solutions are generically singular and thought to be dual to boundary CFTs, it is found that for certain fine-tuned choices of parameters regular Janus solutions may be obtained.

Higher Spin Chern-Simons Theory and the Super Boussinesq hierarchy

In this paper we construct a map between a solution of supersymmetric Chern-Simons higher spin gravity based on the superalgebra $sl(3|2)$ with Lifshitz scaling and the $N=2$ super Boussinesq hierarchy. We show that under this map the time evolution equations of both theories coincide. In addition, we identify the Poisson structure of the Chern-Simons theory induced by gauge transformation with the second Hamiltonian structure of the super Boussinesq hierarchy.

Warped $AdS_6\times S^2$ in Type IIB supergravity III: Global solutions with seven-branes

We extend our previous construction of global solutions to Type IIB supergravity that are invariant under the superalgebra $F(4)$ and are realized on a spacetime of the form $AdS_6 \times S^2$ warped over a Riemann surface $Σ$ by allowing the supergravity fields to have non-trivial $SL(2,{\mathbb R})$ monodromy at isolated punctures on $Σ$. We obtain explicit solutions for the case where $Σ$ is a disc, and the monodromy generators are parabolic elements of $SL(2,{\mathbb R})$ physically corresponding to the monodromy allowed in Type IIB string theory. On the boundary of $Σ$ the solutions exhibit singularities at isolated points which correspond to semi-infinite five-branes, as is familiar from the global solutions without monodromy. In the interior of $Σ$, the solutions are everywhere regular, except at the punctures where $SL(2,{\mathbb R})$ monodromy resides and which physically correspond to the locations of $[p,q]$ seven-branes. The solutions have a compelling physical interpretation corresponding to fully localized five-brane intersections with additional seven-branes, and provide candidate holographic duals to the five-dimensional superconformal field theories realized on such intersections.

Entanglement entropy vs. free energy in IIB supergravity duals for 5d SCFTs

We study entanglement entropy and the free energy in recently constructed holographic duals for 5d SCFTs in type IIB supergravity. The solutions exhibit mild singularities, which could potentially complicate holographic applications. We use the relation of the entanglement entropy for a spherical entangling surface to the free energy of the field theory on the five sphere as a well-motivated benchmark to assess how problematic the singularities are. The holographic supergravity computations give well-defined results for both quantities and they satisfy the expected relations. This supports the interpretation of the solutions as holographic duals for 5d SCFTs and gives first quantitative indications for the nature of the dual SCFTs.

Entanglement entropy at CFT junctions

We consider entanglement through permeable junctions of $N$ $(1+1)$-dimensional free boson and free fermion conformal field theories. In the folded picture we constrain the form of the general boundary state. We calculate replicated partition functions with interface operators inserted in the partially-folded picture, from which the entanglement entropy is calculated. The functional form of the universal and constant terms are the same as the $N=2$ case, depending only of the total transmission of the junction and the unit volume of the zero mode lattice. For $N>2$ we see a sub-leading divergent term which does not depend on the parameters of the junction. For $N=3$ we consider some specific geometries and discuss various limits.

A note on entanglement entropy and regularization in holographic interface theories

We discuss the computation of holographic entanglement entropy for interface conformal field theories. The fact that globally well defined Fefferman-Graham coordinates are difficult to construct makes the regularization of the holographic theory challenging. We introduce a simple new cut-off procedure, which we call "double cut-off" regularization. We test the new cut-off procedure by comparing the results for holographic entanglement entropies using other cut-off procedures and find agreement. We also study three dimensional conformal field theories with a two dimensional interface. In that case the dual bulk geometry is constructed using warped geometry with an $AdS_3$ factor. We define an effective central charge to the interface through the Brown-Henneaux formula for the $AdS_3$ factor. We investigate two concrete examples, showing that the same effective central charge appears in the computation of entanglement entropy and governs the conformal anomaly.

A note on entanglement entropy for topological interfaces in RCFTs

In this paper we calculate the entanglement entropy for topological interfaces in rational conformal field theories for the case where the interface lies at the boundary of the entangling interval and for the case where it is located in the center of the entangling interval. We compare the results to each other and also to the recently calculated left/right entropy of a related BCFT. We also comment of the entanglement entropies for topological interfaces for a free compactified boson and Liouville theory.
