HeatK: A Mathematica Program for Computing Heat Kernel Coefficients

Heat kernel coefficients encode the short distance behavior of propagators in the presence of background fields, and are thus useful in quantum field theory. We present a Mathematica program for computing these coefficients and their derivatives, based on an algorithm by Avramidi\cite{Avramidi:npb91}. See http://fermi.pha.jhu.edu/~booth/HeatK/ for source and examples.

Quenched Chiral Corrections to Heavy-Light Decay Constants at Order 1/M

Quenched chiral perturbation is used to study the decay constants for heavy-light mesons beyond the leading order in 1/M. The results are used to estimate the error in quenched lattice calculations of the decay constants. For the double ratio $R_1 = ( f_{D_s}/f_D) / (f_{B_s}/f_B)$ we find that the error is small, conservatively 6%, but likely smaller. We also find that quenching decreases the ratio $f_{D_s}/f_D$ relative to the unquenched theory.

Quenched Chiral Perturbation Theory for Heavy-Light Mesons

Quenched chiral perturbation theory is extended to include heavy-light mesons. Non-analytic corrections to the decay constants, Isgur-Wise function and masses and mixing of heavy mesons are then computed. The results are used to estimate the error due to quenching in lattice computations of these quantities. For reasonable choices of parameters, it is found that quenching has a strong effect on $f_{B_s}/f_B$, reducing it by as much as $28\%$. The errors are essentially negligible for the Isgur-Wise function and the mixing parameter.

P and T Violation From Certain Dimension Eight Weinberg Operators

Dimension eight operators of the Weinberg type have been shown to give important contributions to CP violating phenomena, such as the electric dipole moment of the neutron. In this note we show how operators related to these (and expected to occur on equal footing) can give rise to time-reversal violating phenomena such as atomic electric dipole moments. We also estimate the induced parity violating phenomena such as small ``wrong'' parity admixtures in atomic states and find that they are negligible. Uses harvmac.tex and epsf.tex; one figure submitted as a uuencoded, compressed EPS file.
