Solutions of Calabi-Yau Differential Operators as Truncated p-adic Series and Efficient Computation of Zeta Functions

Recently, a version of the deformation method developed in arXiv:2104.07816 has been used to great effect to compute the local zeta functions of Calabi-Yau threefolds by computing their periods as series with rational coefficients and using this to find a matrix representing the Frobenius action on a $p$-adic cohomology. However, this method rapidly becomes inefficient as the prime $p$ grows, due to the rational period coefficients growing quickly. In this paper, we point out that this problem can be circumvented by a simple process that we call $p$-adically truncated recurrence. This is a recurrence relation whose solutions are $p$-adic numbers modulo $p^A$ for a given $A \in \mathbb{N}$ and thus grow only slowly as $p$ grows. We show that the $p$-adic accuracy $A$ can be chosen such that all $p$-adic digits which contribute to the final result are kept, and therefore we are able to obtain the correct result by using these solutions. The improvements to speed and memory usage allow for computing the local zeta functions for tens of thousands of primes on a desktop computer, and make computing local zeta functions possible even for primes of size $10^6$ to $10^7$. Previously such computations were practically possible for around 1000 first primes. We have implemented this method in a Sage-compatible Python package PFLFunction.

Gromov-Witten Invariants and Mirror Symmetry For Non-Fano Varieties Via Tropical Disks

Under mirror symmetry a non-Fano variety $X$ corresponds to an instanton corrected Hori-Vafa potential $W$. The classical period of $W$ equals the regularized quantum period of $X$, which is a generating function for descendant Gromov-Witten invariants. These periods define closed mirror maps relating complex with symplectic parameters and open mirror maps relating coordinates on the mirror curves. We interpret the corrections to $W$ by broken lines in a scattering diagram, so that $W$ is the primitive theta function $\vartheta_1$. We show that, after wall crossing to infinity and application of the closed mirror map, $W=\vartheta_1$ is equal to the open mirror map. By tropical correspondence, $\vartheta_1$ is a generating function for $2$-marked logarithmic Gromov-Witten invariants, which are algebraic analogues of counts of Maslov index $2$ disks. This generalizes the predictions of mirror symmetry to the non-Fano case.

Tropical Periods for Calabi-Yau Hypersurfaces in non--Fano Toric Varieties

We consider multi-polytopes to describe non-Fano toric varieties and their associated anticanonical Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces. From the periods of the mirror manifold the $\widehatΓ$-conjecture is shown to hold for examples of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in non-Fano ambient spaces, extending earlier work by Abouzaid et al by employing a generalized Duistermaat-Heckman measure.
