SDEs with singular drifts and multiplicative noise on general space-time domains

In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of maximally defined strong solutions to SDEs driven by multiplicative noise on general space-time domains $Q\subset\mathbb{R}_+\times\mathbb{R}^d$, which have continuous paths on the one-point compactification $Q\cup\partial$ of $Q$ where $\partial \notin Q$ and $Q\cup\partial$ is equipped with the Alexandrov topology. If the SDE is of gradient type (see (2.5) below) we prove that under suitable Lyapunov type conditions the life time of the solution is infinite and its distribution has sub-Gaussian tails. This generalizes earlier work \cite{KR} by Krylov and one of the authors to the case where the noise is multiplicative.

Strong convergence order for slow-fast McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations

In this paper, we consider the averaging principle for a class of McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations with slow and fast time-scales. Under some proper assumptions on the coefficients, we first prove that the slow component strongly converges to the solution of the corresponding averaged equation with convergence order $1/3$ using the approach of time discretization. Furthermore, under stronger regularity conditions on the coefficients, we use the technique of Poisson equation to improve the order to $1/2$, which is the optimal order of strong convergence in general.

Strong averaging principle for slow-fast stochastic partial differential equations with locally monotone coefficients

This paper is devoted to proving the strong averaging principle for slow-fast stochastic partial differential equations with locally monotone coefficients, where the slow component is a stochastic partial differential equations with locally monotone coefficients and the fast component is a stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with strongly monotone coefficients. The result is applicable to a large class of examples, such as the stochastic porous medium equation, the stochastic $p$-Laplace equation, the stochastic Burgers type equation and the stochastic 2D Navier-Stokes equation, which are the nonlinear stochastic partial differential equations. The main techniques are based on time discretization and the variational approach to SPDEs.

A natural extension of Markov processes and applications to singular SDEs

We develop a general method for extending Markov processes to a larger state space such that the added points form a polar set. The so obtained extension is an improvement on the standard trivial extension in which case the process is made stuck in the added points, and it renders a new technique of constructing extended solutions to S(P)DEs from all starting points, in such a way that they are solutions at least after any strictly positive time. Concretely, we adopt this strategy to study SDEs with singular coefficients on an infinite dimensional state space (e.g. SPDEs of evolutionary type), for which one often encounters the situation where not every point in the space is allowed as an initial condition. The same can happen when constructing solutions of martingale problems or Markov processes from (generalized) Dirichlet forms, to which our new technique also applies.

Collective stochastic dynamics of the Cucker-Smale ensemble under uncertain communications

We present collective dynamics of the Cucker-Smale (C-S) ensemble under random communications. As an effective modeling of the C-S ensemble, we introduce a stochastic kinetic C-S equation with a multiplicative white noise. For the proposed stochastic kinetic model with a multiplicative noise, we present a global well-posedness of strong solutions and their asymptotic flocking dynamics, when initial datum is sufficiently regular, and communication weight function has a positive lower bound.

From nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations to solutions of distribution dependent SDE

We construct weak solutions to a class of distribution dependent SDE, of type $dX(t)=b\left( X(t), \displaystyle\frac{d\mathcal{L}_{X(t)}}{dx}(X(t))\right) dt+σ\left( X(t),\displaystyle\frac{d\mathcal{L}_{X(t)}}{dt}(X(t))\right) dW(t)$ for possibly degenerate diffusion matrices $σ$ with $X(0)$ having a given law, which has a density with respect to Lebesgue measure, $dx$. Here ${\mathcal{L}}_{X(t)}$ denotes the law of $X(t)$. Our approach is to first solve the corresponding nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations and then use the well known superposition principle to obtain weak solutions of the above SDE.

Strong and weak convergence in the averaging principle for SDEs with Hölder coefficients

Using Zvonkin's transform and the Poisson equation in $R^d$ with a parameter, we prove the averaging principle for stochastic differential equations with time-dependent Hölder continuous coefficients. Sharp convergence rates with order $(α\wedge1)/2$ in the strong sense and $(α/2)\wedge1$ in the weak sense are obtained, considerably extending the existing results in the literature. Moreover, we prove that the convergence of the multi-scale system to the effective equation depends only on the regularity of the coefficients of the equation for the slow variable, and does not depend on the regularity of the coefficients of the equation for the fast component.

On a Class of Infinite-Dimensional Singular Stochastic Control Problems

We study a class of infinite-dimensional singular stochastic control problems with applications in economic theory and finance. The control process linearly affects an abstract evolution equation on a suitable partially-ordered infinite-dimensional space X, it takes values in the positive cone of X, and it has right-continuous and nondecreasing paths. We first provide a rigorous formulation of the problem by properly defining the controlled dynamics and integrals with respect to the control process. We then exploit the concave structure of our problem and derive necessary and sufficient first-order conditions for optimality. The latter are finally exploited in a specification of the model where we find an explicit expression of the optimal control. The techniques used are those of semigroup theory, vector-valued integration, convex analysis, and general theory of stochastic processes.

On the Ambrosio-Figalli-Trevisan superposition principle for probability solutions to Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equations

We prove a generalization of the known result of Trevisan on the Ambrosio-Figalli-Trevisan superposition principle for probability solutions to the Cauchy problem for the Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equation, according to which such a solution is generated by a solution to the corresponding martingale problem. The novelty is that in place of the integrability of the diffusion and drift coefficients $A$ and $b$ with respect to the solution we require the integrability of $(\|A(t,x)\|+|\langle b(t,x),x\rangle |)/(1+|x|^2)$. Therefore, in the case where there are no a priori global integrability conditions the function $\|A(t,x)\|+|\langle b(t,x),x\rangle |$ can be of quadratic growth. Moreover, as a corollary we obtain that under mild conditions on the initial distribution it is sufficient to have the one-sided bound $\langle b(t,x),x\rangle \le C+C|x|^2 \log |x|$ along with $\|A(t,x)\|\le C+C|x|^2 \log |x|$.

Scattering for stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equations

We study the scattering behavior of global solutions to stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equations with linear multiplicative noise. In the case where the quadratic variation of the noise is globally finite and the nonlinearity is defocusing,we prove that the solutions scatter at infinity in the pseudo-conformal space and in the energy space respectively, including the energy-critical case. Moreover, in the case where the noise is large, non-conservative and has infinite quadratic variation, we show that the solutions scatter at infinity with high probability for all energy-subcritical exponents.

Stochastic Heat Equations with Values in a Manifold via Dirichlet Forms

In this paper, we prove the existence of martingale solutions to the stochastic heat equation taking values in a Riemannian manifold, which admits Wiener (Brownian bridge) measure on the Riemannian path (loop) space as an invariant measure using a suitable Dirichlet form. Using the Andersson-Driver approximation, we heuristically derive a form of the equation solved by the process given by the Dirichlet form. Moreover, we establish the log-Sobolev inequality for the Dirichlet form in the path space. In addition, some characterizations for the lower bounds of the Ricci curvature are presented related to the stochastic heat equation.

Quasi-Linear (Stochastic) Partial Differential Equations with Time-Fractional Derivatives

In this paper we develop a method to solve evolution equations on Gelfand triples with time-fractional derivative based on monotonicity techniques. Applications include deterministic and stochastic quasi-linear partial differential equations with time-fractional derivatives, including time-fractional (stochastic) porous media equations (including the case where the Laplace operator is also fractional) and $p$-Laplace equations as special cases.

A remark on global solutions to random 3D vorticity equations for small initial data

In this paper, we prove that the solution constructed in \cite{BR16} satisfies the stochastic vorticity equations with the stochastic integration being understood in the sense of the integration of controlled rough path introduced in \cite{G04}. As a result, we obtain the existence and uniqueness of the global solutions to the stochastic vorticity equations in 3D case for the small initial data independent of time, which can be viewed as a stochastic version of the Kato-Fujita result (see \cite{KF62}).

Variational solutions to nonlinear stochastic differential equations in Hilbert spaces

One introduces a new variational concept of solution for the stochastic differential equation $dX+A(t)X\,dt+λX\,dt=X\,dW,$ $t\in(0,T)$; $X(0)=x$ in a real Hilbert space where $A(t)=\partialφ(t)$, $t\in(0,T)$, is a maximal monotone subpotential operator in $H$ while $W$ is a Wiener process in $H$ on a probability space $\{Ω,\mathcal{F},\mathbb{P}\}$. In this new context, the solution $X=X(t,x)$ exists for each $x\in H$, is unique, and depends continuously on $x$. This functional scheme applies to a general class of stochastic PDE not covered by the classical variational existence theory ([15], [16], [17]) and, in particular, to stochastic variational inequalities and parabolic stochastic equations with general monotone nonlinearities with low or superfast growth to $+\infty$.

Probabilistic representation for solutions to nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations

One obtains a probabilistic representation for the entropic generalized solutions to a nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation in $\mathbb R^d$ with multivalued nonlinear diffusion term as density probabilities of solutions to a nonlinear stochastic differential equation. The case of a nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation with linear space dependent drift is also studied.

Nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations driven by Gaussian linear multiplicative noise

Existence and uniqueness of a strong solution in $H^{-1}(\mathbb R^d)$ is proved for the stochastic nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation $$dX-{\rm div}(DX)dt-Δβ(X)dt=X\,dW \mbox{ in }(0,T)\times\mathbb R^d,\ X(0)=x,$$ via a corresponding random differential equation. Here $d\geq 1$, $W$ is a Wiener process in $H^{-1}(\mathbb R^d)$, $D\in C^1(\mathbb R^d,\mathbb R^d)$ and $β$ is a continuous monotonically increasing function. The solution exists for $x\in L^1\cap L^\infty$ and preserves positivity. If $β\in L^1_{\rm loc}(\mathbb R)$, the solution is pathwise Lipschitz continuous with respect to initial data in $H^{-1}(\mathbb R^d)$. Stochastic Fokker-Planck equations with nonlinear drift of the form $dX-{\rm div}(a(X))dt-Δβ(X)dt=X\,dW$ are also considered for Lipschitzian continuous functions $a:\mathbb R\to\mathbb R^d$.

A splitting algorithm for stochastic partial differential equations driven by linear multiplicative noise

We study the convergence of a Douglas-Rachford type splitting algorithm for the infinite dimensional stochastic differential equation $$dX+A(t)(X)dt=X\,dW\mbox{ in }(0,T);\ X(0)=x,$$ where $A(t):V\to V'$ is a nonlinear, monotone, coercive and demicontinuous operator with sublinear growth and $V$ is a real Hilbert space with the dual $V'$. $V$ is densely and continuously embedded in the Hilbert space $H$ and $W$ is an $H$-valued Wiener process. The general case of a maximal monotone operators $A(t):H\to H$ is also investigated.
