On certain perturbations of the Erdos-Renyi random graph

We study perturbations of the Erdos-Renyi model for which the statistical weight of a graph depends on the abundance of certain geometrical patterns. Using the formal correspondance with an exactly solvable effective model, we show the existence of a percolation transition in the thermodynamical limit and derive perturbatively the expression of the threshold. The free energy and the moments of the degree distribution are also computed perturbatively in that limit and the percolation criterion is compared with the Molloy-Reed criterion.

Conformal transformations and the SLE partition function martingale

We present an implementation in conformal field theory (CFT) of local finite conformal transformations fixing a point. We give explicit constructions when the fixed point is either the origin or the point at infinity. Both cases involve the exponentiation of a Borel subalgebra of the Virasoro algebra. We use this to build coherent state representations and to derive a close analog of Wick's theorem for the Virasoro algebra. This allows to compute the conformal partition function in non trivial geometries obtained by removal of hulls from the upper half plane. This is then applied to stochastic Loewner evolutions (SLE). We give a rigorous derivation of the equations, obtained previously by the authors, that connect the stochastic Loewner equation to the representation theory of the Virasoro algebra. We give a new proof that this construction enumerates all polynomial SLE martingales. When one of the hulls removed from the upper half plane is the SLE hull, we show that the partition function is a famous local martingale known to probabilists, thereby unravelling its CFT origin.

Conformal Field Theories of Stochastic Loewner Evolutions

Stochastic Loewner evolutions (SLE) are random growth processes of sets, called hulls, embedded in the two dimensional upper half plane. We elaborate and develop a relation between SLE evolutions and conformal field theories (CFT) which is based on a group theoretical formulation of SLE processes and on the identification of the proper hull boundary states. This allows us to define an infinite set of SLE zero modes, or martingales, whose existence is a consequence of the existence of a null vector in the appropriate Virasoro modules. This identification leads, for instance, to linear systems for generalized crossing probabilities whose coefficients are multipoint CFT correlation functions. It provides a direct link between conformal correlation functions and probabilities of stopping time events in SLE evolutions. We point out a relation between SLE processes and two dimensional gravity and conjecture a reconstruction procedure of conformal field theories from SLE data.

SLE martingales and the Virasoro algebra

We present an explicit relation between representations of the Virasoro algebra and polynomial martingales in stochastic Loewner evolutions (SLE). We show that the Virasoro algebra is the spectrum generating algebra of SLE martingales. This is based on a new representation of the Virasoro algebra, inspired by the Borel-Weil construction, acting on functions depending on coordinates parametrizing conformal maps.

A simple asymmetric evolving random network

We introduce a new oriented evolving graph model inspired by biological networks. A node is added at each time step and is connected to the rest of the graph by random oriented edges emerging from older nodes. This leads to a statistical asymmetry between incoming and outgoing edges. We show that the model exhibits a percolation transition and discuss its universality. Below the threshold, the distribution of component sizes decreases algebraically with a continuously varying exponent depending on the average connectivity. We prove that the transition is of infinite order by deriving the exact asymptotic formula for the size of the giant component close to the threshold. We also present a thorough analysis of aging properties. We compute local-in-time profiles for the components of finite size and for the giant component, showing in particular that the giant component is always dense among the oldest nodes but invades only an exponentially small fraction of the young nodes close to the threshold.

Asymmetric evolving random networks

We generalize the poissonian evolving random graph model of Bauer and Bernard to deal with arbitrary degree distributions. The motivation comes from biological networks, which are well-known to exhibit non poissonian degree distribution. A node is added at each time step and is connected to the rest of the graph by oriented edges emerging from older nodes. This leads to a statistical asymmetry between incoming and outgoing edges. The law for the number of new edges at each time step is fixed but arbitrary. Thermodynamical behavior is expected when this law has a large time limit. Although (by construction) the incoming degree distributions depend on this law, this is not the case for most qualitative features concerning the size distribution of connected components, as long as the law has a finite variance. As the variance grows above 1/4, the average being <1/2, a giant component emerges, which connects a finite fraction of the vertices. Below this threshold, the distribution of component sizes decreases algebraically with a continuously varying exponent. The transition is of infinite order, in sharp contrast with the case of static graphs. The local-in-time profiles for the components of finite size allow to give a refined description of the system.

Sailing the Deep Blue Sea of Decaying Burgers Turbulence

We study Lagrangian trajectories and scalar transport statistics in decaying Burgers turbulence. We choose velocity fields, solutions of the inviscid Burgers equation, whose probability distributions are specified by Kida's statistics. They are time-correlated, not time-reversal invariant and not Gaussian. We discuss in some details the effect of shocks on trajectories and transport equations. We derive the inviscid limit of these equations using a formalism of operators localized on shocks. We compute the probability distribution functions of the trajectories although they do not define Markov processes. As physically expected, these trajectories are statistically well-defined but collapse with probability one at infinite time. We point out that the advected scalars enjoy inverse energy cascades. We also make a few comments on the connection between our computations and persistence problems.

Representatives of the Thom class of a vector bundle

After a review of several methods designed to produce equivariant cohomology classes, we apply one introduced by Berline, Getzler and Vergne, to get a family of representatives of the universal Thom class of a vector bundle. Surprisingly, this family does not contain the representative given by Matha\"ı and Quillen. However it contains a particularly simple and symmetric representative that we construct explicitly.

The Large N Random Phase sine-Gordon Model

At large distances and in the low temperature phase, the quenched correlation functions in the 2d random phase sine-Gordon model have been argued to be of the form~: $ \bar {\vev{~[φ(x)-φ(0)]^2~}}_* = A (\log|x|) + B \ep^2 (\log|x|)^2 $, with $\ep=(T-T_c)$. However, renormalization group computations predict $B\not=0$ while variational approaches (which are supposed to be exact for models with a large number of components) give $B=0$. We introduce a large $N$ version of the random phase sine-Gordon model. Using non-Abelian bosonization and renormalization group techniques, we show that the correlation functions of our models have the above form but with a coefficient $B$ suppressed by a factor $1/N^3$ compared to $A$.

Spatial Geometry of Non-Abelian Gauge Theory in \(2 + 1\) Dimensions

The Hamiltonian dynamics of \(2 + 1\) dimensional Yang-Mills theory with gauge group SU(2) is reformulated in gauge invariant, geometric variables, as in earlier work on the \(3 + 1\) dimensional case. Physical states in electric field representation have the product form \(Ψ_{\mathrm{phys}} [E^{a i}] = \exp ( i Ω[ E ] / g ) F [G_{ij}]\), where the phase factor is a simple local functional required to satisfy the Gauss law constraint, and \(G_{ij}\) is a dynamical metric tensor which is bilinear in \(E^{a k}\). The Hamiltonian acting on \(F [ G_{ij} ]\) is local, but the energy density is infinite for degenerate configurations where \(\det G (x)\) vanishes at points in space, so wave functionals must be specially constrained to avoid infinite total energy. Study of this situation leads to the further factorization \(F [G_{ij} ] = F_c [ G_{ij} ] \mathcal R [ G_{ij} ]\), and the product \(Ψ_c [E] \equiv \exp (i Ω[ E ] / g ) F_c [G_{ij}]\) is shown to be the wave functional of a topological field theory. Further information from topological field theory may illuminate the question of the behavior of physical gauge theory wave functionals for degenerate fields.

Polynomial Relations in the Centre of U_q(sl(N))

When the parameter of deformation q is a m-th root of unity, the centre of U_q(sl(N))$ contains, besides the usual q-deformed Casimirs, a set of new generators, which are basically the m-th powers of all the Cartan generators of U_q(sl(N)). All these central elements are however not independent. In this letter, generalising the well-known case of U_q(sl(2)), we explicitly write polynomial relations satisfied by the generators of the centre. Application to the parametrization of irreducible representations and to fusion rules are sketched.
