Groups generated by spherical twists on K3 surfaces and full exceptional collections on Fano threefolds

Let Y be a smooth K3 surface of Picard rank 1. We prove that the subgroup G of Aut D^b(Y) generated by spherical twists with respect to all spherical objects is free. Moreover, we provide a precise recipe to find free generators of G and determine the cases when G is finitely generated, depending on the degree of Y. This description in particular yields a precise classification of spherical objects in Aut D^b(Y). We apply these results to verify the first three-dimensional case of a conjecture due to Bondal and Polishchuck, namely, we establish the transitivity of the braid group action on full exceptional collections for Fano threefolds of Picard rank 1.

NCCRs of cones over del Pezzo surfaces

Non-commutative crepant resolutions (NCCRs) are non-commutative versions of classical crepant resolutions in algebraic geometry. For 3-dimensional terminal Gorenstein singularities Iyama and Wemyss proved that all NCCRs are connected by mutations, which may be viewed as a non-commutative analogue of Kawamata's result that all crepant resolutions are connected by flops. In this paper we prove the corresponding result for a class of canonical Gorenstein singularities which are not terminal, namely anticanonical cones over del Pezzo surfaces. More precisely, we first obtain a classification of NCCRs of anticanonical del Pezzo cones, showing that every NCCR arises from a geometric helix on the corresponding del Pezzo surface. We then prove that all such geometric helices are connected to each other by mutations, up to simple operations which include tensoring by line bundles and shifts. A crucial ingredient in our proofs is the polygons that can be associated to exceptional collections on del Pezzo surfaces following the works of Hille and Perling. We obtain some interesting observations about these polygons which may be of independent interest.

New examples of non-unique enhancements for triangulated categories

We present a general procedure for constructing triangulated categories, linear over a field, with distinct enhancements. Some of our examples can be equipped with a (non-degenerate) t-structure, thereby showing that the existence of a t-structure does not imply uniqueness of enhancements, whether in the strong or weak sense (depending on the example).

Perverse schobers and GKZ systems

Perverse schobers are categorifications of perverse sheaves. In prior work we constructed a perverse schober on a partial compactification of the stringy Kähler moduli space (SKMS) associated by Halpern-Leistner and Sam to a quasi-symmetric representation of a reductive group. When the group is a torus the SKMS corresponds to the complement of the GKZ discriminant locus (which is a hyperplane arrangement in the quasi-symmetric case shown by Kite). We show here that a suitable variation of the perverse schober we constructed provides a categorification of the associated GKZ hypergeometric system in the case of non-resonant parameters. As an intermediate result we give a description of the monodromy of such "quasi-symmetric" GKZ hypergeometric systems.

Comparing the Kirwan and noncommutative resolutions of quotient varieties

Let a reductive group $G$ act on a smooth variety $X$ such that a good quotient $X{/\!\!/}G$ exists. We show that the derived category of a noncommutative crepant resolution (NCCR) of $X{/\!\!/} G$, obtained from a $G$-equivariant vector bundle on $X$, can be embedded in the derived category of the (canonical, stacky) Kirwan resolution of $X{/\!\!/} G$. In fact the embedding can be completed to a semi-orthogonal decomposition in which the other parts are all derived categories of Azumaya algebras over smooth Deligne-Mumford stacks.

Catalan numbers, parking functions, permutahedra and noncommutative Hilbert schemes

We find an explicit $S_n$-equivariant bijection between the integral points in a certain zonotope in $\mathbb{R}^n$, combinatorially equivalent to the permutahedron, and the set of $m$-parking functions of length $n$. This bijection restricts to a bijection between the regular $S_n$-orbits and $(m,n)$-Dyck paths, the number of which is given by the Fuss-Catalan number $A_{n}(m,1)$. Our motivation came from studying tilting bundles on noncommutative Hilbert schemes. As a side result we use these tilting bundles to construct a semi-orthogonal decomposition of the derived category of noncommutative Hilbert schemes.

On the GKZ discriminant locus

Let $A$ be an integral matrix and let $P$ be the convex hull of its columns. By a result of Gelfand, Kapranov and Zelevinski, the so-called principal $A$-determinant locus is equal to the union of the closures of the discriminant loci of the Laurent polynomials associated to the faces of $P$ that are hypersurfaces. In this short note we show that it is also the straightforward union of all the discriminant loci, i.e. we may include those of higher codimension, and there is no need to take closures. This answers a question by Kite and Segal.

Non-commutative crepant resolutions, an overview

Non-commutative crepant resolutions (NCCRs) are non-commutative analogues of the usual crepant resolutions that appear in algebraic geometry. In this paper we survey some results around NCCRs.

Subgroups of braid groups generated by Birman-Ko-Lee generators

We define a Young subgroup of the braid group as a subgroup generated by an arbitrary subset of the Birman-Ko-Lee generators. We give an intrinsic description of such subgroups which yields, in particular, an easy criterion to decide membership. We also give an algorithm to write an element of a Young subgroup as a product of the generators. Our methods are based on analyzing the Hurwitz action on tuples over free groups via a diagrammatic approach.

Deformations of triangulated categories with t-structures via derived injectives

This paper provides the final ingredient in the development of the deformation theory of pretriangulated dg-categories endowed with a nice t-structure, which was initiated by the authors and is modeled after the previously developed deformation theory of abelian categories. We show how to extend a t-structure on a pretriangulated dg-category to its dg-derived category so that the Yoneda embedding becomes t-exact. We construct several equivalences between deformation problems; in particular, we prove a deformation equivalence between the bounded t-deformations of a bounded t-dg-category on the one hand, and dg-deformations of the dg-category of derived injective ind-dg-objects on the other hand. Since this latter dg-category is cohomologically concentrated in nonpositive degrees, we do not encounter curvature.

HMS symmetries of toric boundary divisors

Let $X$ be a projective crepant resolution of a Gorenstein affine toric variety and let $((\mathbb{C}^*)^k,f)$ be the LG-model which is the Hori-Vafa mirror dual of $X$. Let ${D}$ be a generic fiber of $f$ equipped with the restriction of the standard Liouville form on $(\mathbb{C}^*)^k$. Let $\mathcal{K}_A$ be the so-called "stringy Kähler moduli space" of $X$. We show that $π_1(\mathcal{K}_A)$ acts on the wrapped Fukaya category of $D$. Using results by Gammage - Shende and Zhou, this result implies that $π_1(\mathcal{K}_A)$ acts on $D^b(\operatorname{coh}(\partial X))$ where $\partial X$ is the toric boundary divisor of $X$. We show that the induced action of $π_1(\mathcal{K}_A)$ on $K_0(\operatorname{coh}(\partial X))$ may be extended in a natural way to an action on $K_0(X)$ which corresponds to a GKZ system.

T-structures on dg-categories and derived deformations

This paper is a sequel to "t-structures and twisted complexes on derived injectives" by the same authors. We develop the foundations of the infinitesimal derived deformation theory of pretriangulated dg-categories endowed with t-structures. This generalizes the deformation theory of abelian categories developed by the last two authors. We show how deformations of dg-categories of derived injectives yield derived deformations of the associated t-structures.

Motivic Atiyah-Segal completion theorem

Let T be a torus, X a smooth quasi-compact separated scheme equipped with a T-action, and [X/T] the associated quotient stack. Given any localizing A1-homotopy invariant of dg categories E, we prove that the derived completion of E([X/T]) at the augmentation ideal I of the representation ring R(T) of T agrees with the Borel construction associated to the T-action on X. Moreover, for certain localizing A1-homotopy invariants, we extend this result to the case of a linearly reductive group scheme G. As a first application, we obtain an alternative proof of Krishna's completion theorem in algebraic K-theory, of Thomason's completion theorem in étale K-theory with coefficients, and also of Atiyah-Segal's completion theorem in topological K-theory. These alternative proofs lead to a spectral enrichment of the corresponding completion theorems and also to the following improvements: in the case of Thomason's completion theorem the base field no longer needs to be separably closed, and in the case of Atiyah-Segal's completion theorem the topological spaces no longer needs to be compact and the equivariant topological K-theory groups no longer need to be finitely generated over the representation ring. As a second application, we obtain new completion theorems in l-adic étale K-theory, in (real) semi-topological K-theory and also in periodic cyclic homology. As a third application, we obtain a purely algebraic description of the different equivariant cohomology groups in the literature (motivic, l-adic, (real) morphic, Betti, de Rham, etc). Finally, in two appendixes of independent interest, we extend a result of Weibel on homotopy K-theory from the realm of schemes to the broad setting of quotient stacks and establish some useful properties of (real) semi-topological K-theory.

On cohomological and K-theoretical Hall algebras of symmetric quivers

We give a brief review of the cohomological Hall algebra CoHA $\mathcal{H}$ and the K-theoretical Hall algebra KHA $\mathcal{R}$ associated to quivers. In the case of symmetric quivers, we show that there exists a homomorphism of algebras (obtained from a Chern character map) $\mathcal{R}\to \hat{\mathcal{H}}^σ$ where $\hat{\mathcal{H}}^σ$ is a Zhang twist of the completion of $\mathcal{H}$. Moreover, we establish the equivalence of categories of ``locally finite'' graded modules $\hat{\mathcal{H}}^σ-{\rm Mod}_{lf}\simeq \mathcal{R}_{\mathbb Q}-{\rm Mod}_{lf}$. Examples of locally finite $\hat{\mathcal{H}}^σ$-, resp. $\mathcal{R}_{\mathbb Q}$- modules appear naturally as the cohomology, resp. K-theory, of framed moduli spaces of quivers.

T-structures and twisted complexes on derived injectives

In the paper "Deformation theory of abelian categories", the last two authors proved that an abelian category with enough injectives can be reconstructed as the category of finitely presented modules over the category of its injective objects. We show a generalization of this to pretriangulated dg-categories with a left bounded non-degenerate t-structure with enough derived injectives, the latter being derived enhancements of the injective objects in the heart of the t-structure. Such dg-categories (with an additional hypothesis of closure under suitable products) can be completely described in terms of left bounded twisted complexes of their derived injectives.
