Enumerative combinatorics package for CoCoA

We introduce the package combinatorics for the software CoCoA. This package provides a data structure and the necessary methods for computing several known enumerative combinatorial invariants.

A new iterative algorithm for comprehensive Grobner systems

A Comprehensive Grobner system for a parametric ideal I in K(A)[X] represents the collection of all Grobner bases of the ideals I' in K[X] obtained as the values of the parameters A vary in K. The recent algorithms for computing them comprehensive Grobner systems consider the corresponding ideal J in K[A,X], and are based on stability of Grobner bases of ideals under specializations of the parameters. Starting from a Grobner basis of J, the computation splits recursively depending on the vanishing of the evaluation of some ``coefficients'' in K[A]. In this paper, taking inspiration from the algorithm described by Nabeshima, we create a new iterative algorithm to compute comprehensive Grobner systems. We show how we keep track of the sub-cases to be considered, and how we avoid some redundant computation branches using ``comparatively-cheap'' ideal-membership tests, instead of radical-membership tests.

Freeness of hyperplane arrangements associated with gain graphs

Athanasiadis studied arrangements obtained by adding shifted hyperplanes to the braid arrangement. Similarly, Bailey studied arrangements obtained by adding tilted hyperplanes to the braid arrangement. These two kinds of arrangements are associated with directed graphs and their freeness was characterized in terms of the associated graphs. In addition, there is coincidence of freeness. Namely, if Athanasiadis' arrangement is free, then the corresponding Bailey's arrangement is free, and vice versa. In this paper, we generalize this phenomenon by using gain graphs.

Total outer-connected domination number of middle graphs

In this paper, we study the total outer-connected domination number of the middle graph of a simple graph and we obtain tight bounds for this number in terms of the order of the middle graph. We also compute the total outer-connected domination number of some families of graphs, explicitly. Moreover, some Nordhaus-Gaddum-like relations are presented for the total outer-connected domination number of middle graphs.

Connected and outer-connected domination number of middle graphs

In this paper, we study the notions of connected domination number and of outer-connected domination number for middle graphs. Indeed, we obtain tight bounds for this number in terms of the order of the graph M(G). We also compute the outer-connected domination number of some families of graphs such as star graphs, cycle graphs, wheel graphs, complete graphs, complete bipartite graphs and some operation on graphs, explicitly. Moreover, some Nordhaus-Gaddum-like relations are presented for the outer-connected domination number of middle graphs.

Total domination number of middle graphs

A total dominating set of a graph G with no isolated vertices is a subset S of the vertex set such that every vertex of G is adjacent to a vertex in S. The total domination number of G is the minimum cardinality of a total dominating set of G. In this paper, we study the total domination number of middle graphs. Indeed, we obtain tight bounds for this number in terms of the order of the graph G. We also compute the total domination number of the middle graph of some known families of graphs explicitly. Moreover, some Nordhaus-Gaddum-like relations are presented for the total domination number of middle graphs.

Total dominator coloring number of middle graphs

A total dominator coloring of a graph G is a proper coloring of G in which each vertex of the graph is adjacent to every vertex of some color class. The total dominator chromatic number of a graph is the minimum number of color classes in a total dominator coloring. In this article, we study the total dominator coloring on middle graphs by giving several bounds for the case of general graphs and trees. Moreover, we calculate explicitely the total dominator chromatic number of the middle graph of several known families of graphs.

Combinatorially equivalent hyperplane arrangements

We study the combinatorics of hyperplane arrangements over arbitrary fields. Specifically, we determine in which situation an arrangement and its reduction modulo a prime number have isomorphic lattices via the use of minimal strong $σ$-Gröbner bases. Moreover, we prove that the Terao's conjecture over finite fields implies the conjecture over the rationals.

Domination for latin square graphs

In combinatorics, a latin square is a $n\times n$ matrix filled with n different symbols, each occurring exactly once in each row and exactly once in each column. Associated to each latin square, we can define a simple graph called a latin square graph. In this article, we compute lower and upper bounds for the domination number and the k-tuple total domination numbers of such graphs. Moreover, we describe a formula for the 2-tuple total domination number.

On the Falk invariant of Shi and Linial arrangements

It is an open question to give a combinatorial interpretation of the Falk invariant of a hyperplane arrangement, i.e. the third rank of successive quotients in the lower central series of the fundamental group of the arrangement. In this article, we give a combinatorial formula for this invariant in the case of hyperplane arrangements that are complete lift representation of certain gain graphs. As a corollary, we compute the Falk invariant for the cone of the braid, Shi, Linial and semiorder arrangements.

Domination number of middle graphs

In this paper, we study the domination number of middle graphs. Indeed, we obtain tight bounds for this number in terms of the order of the graph. We also compute the domination number of some families of graphs such as star graphs, double start graphs, path graphs, cycle graphs, wheel graphs, complete graphs, complete bipartite graphs and friendship graphs, explicitly. Moreover, some Nordhaus-Gaddum-like relations are presented for the domination number of middle graphs.

Localization of plus-one generated arrangements

We study the classes of free and plus-one generated hyperplane arrangements. Specifically, we describe how to compute the associated prime ideals of the Jacobian ideal of such an arrangement from its lattice of intersection. Moreover, we prove that the localization of a plus-one generated arrangement is free or plus-one generated.

On the Falk invariant of hyperplane arrangements attached to gain graphs

The fundamental group of the complement of a hyperplane arrangement in a complex vector space is an important topological invariant. The third rank of successive quotients in the lower central series of the fundamental group was called Falk invariant of the arrangement since Falk gave the first formula and asked to give a combinatorial interpretation. In this article, we give a combinatorial formula for the Falk invariant of hyperplane arrangements attached to certain gain graphs.

Lefschetz Properties and Hyperplane Arrangements

In this article, we study the weak and strong Lefschetz properties, and the related notion of almost revlex ideal, in the non-Artinian case, proving that several results known in the Artinian case hold also in this more general setting. We then apply the obtained results to the study of the Jacobian algebra of hyperplane arrangements.

$k$-Lefschetz properties, sectional matrices and hyperplane arrangements

In this article, we study the $k$-Lefschetz properties for non-Artinian algebras, proving that several known results in the Artinian case can be generalized in this setting. Moreover, we describe how to characterize the graded algebras having the $k$-Lefschetz properties using sectional matrices. We then apply the obtained results to the study of the Jacobian algebra of hyperplane arrangements, with particular attention to the class of free arrangements.

Freeness of Hyperplane Arrangements between Boolean Arrangements and Weyl Arrangements of Type $ B_{\ell} $

Every subarrangement of Weyl arrangements of type $ B_{\ell} $ is represented by a signed graph. Edelman and Reiner characterized freeness of subarrangements between type $ A_{\ell-1} $ and type $ B_{\ell} $ in terms of graphs. Recently, Suyama and the authors characterized freeness for subarrangements containing Boolean arrangements satisfying a certain condition. This article is a sequel to the previous work. Namely, we give a complete characterization for freeness of arrangements between Boolean arrangements and Weyl arrangements of type $ B_{\ell} $ in terms of graphs.
