We find necessary and sufficient conditions for a dynamical system to be topologically conjugate to any given substitution minimal system, thus extending the results in [CKL] for the Morse and Toeplitz substitutions.
We establish necessary and sufficient conditions for a dynamical system to be topologically conjugate to the Morse minimal set, the shift orbit closure of the Morse sequence, and conditions for topological conjugacy to the closely related Teoplitz minimal set.
This paper is concerned with the lengths of constant length substitutions that generate topologically conjugate systems. We show that if the systems are infinite, then these lengths must be powers of the same integer. This result is a dynamical formulation of a special case of a 1969 theoretical computer science result of Alan Cobham. Our proof is rather simple.
