Discriminating superconducting fluctuations from the pseudogap in Bi$_2$Sr$_2$Ca$_{n-1}$Cu$_n$O$_{2n+4+δ} (n = 2,3)$: A magnetotransport study

Understanding the normal state is essential for uncovering the mechanism of high-$T_c$ superconductivity. We investigate magnetotransport in Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ and Bi$_2$Sr$_2$Ca$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{10+δ}$ single crystals over a wide doping range. While the in-plane resistivity and Hall coefficient show strong pseudogap-induced temperature dependence, the $T^2$ Hall-angle behavior and the modified Kohler's rule remain robust across all dopings. The onset temperatures of the pseudogap are clearly distinct from superconducting fluctuations, although they scale with the pseudogap magnitudes with a factor consistent with a $d$-wave superconductor. These results demonstrate that the pseudogap does not arise from superconducting fluctuations and instead suggest that it may originate from preformed Cooper pairing in the BCS-BEC crossover regime.

Crystal structures and superconducting properties of metallic double-chain based cuprate Pr2Ba4Cu7O15-delta

We demonstrated the lattice structures and the superconducting phases of metallic double-chain based cuprate Pr2Ba4Cu7O15-delta exhibiting higher Tc. After the oxygen heat treatment on citrate pyrolysis precursors, their reduction treatment followed by a quench procedure caused higher Tc samples with 26.5-30 K. The crystal structural parameters for the superconducting sample (delta = 0.81) were analyzed from the powder synchrotron X-ray diffraction data using RIETAN-FP program. The effect of magnetic field on the superconducting phase of these samples with different oxygen defects (delta =0.73, 0.81 and 0.87) was examined, for our understanding of the superconducting magnetic field-temperature phase diagram. For delta = 0.87 sample with Tc = 30 K, the resistive critical field Hc* was estimated to be 13 T at 4.2 K. The oxygen deficiency dependence on Tc,on for our samples was compared with the data of several other groups.

Onset Temperatures for Superconducting Fluctuations in Te-annealed FeTe$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ Single Crystals: Evidence for the BCS-BEC Crossover

Recently, the superconductors' community has witnessed an unsettled debate regarding whether iron-based superconductors, in particular FeSe and FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$, are in the Bardeen-Cooper-Shrieffer (BCS) - Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) crossover regime. Nonetheless, one particular system, FeTe$_{1-x}$Se$_x$, has been less investigated in this regard owing to the screening of its intrinsic superconducting properties by the inevitable iron excess. Herein, the onset temperatures for superconducting fluctuations ($T_{scf}$) are investigated by measuring the magnetoresistance (MR) of Te-annealed, high-quality FeTe$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ ($x$ = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4) single crystals. The results reveal very high $T_{scf}$ values for these crystals. Particularly for $x$ = 0.4, $T_{scf}$ reaches approximately 40 K, which is 2.7 times larger than $T_c$. This indicates that the superconductivity of the FeTe$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ system is well within the BCS-BEC crossover regime.

Revised phase diagram of the high-$T_c$ cuprate superconductor Pb-doped Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ revealed by anisotropic transport measurements

Although phase diagrams can be leveraged to investigate high transition temperature (high-$T_c$) superconductivity, the issue has not been discussed thoroughly. In this study, we elucidate the phase diagram of the overdoped side of high-$T_c$ cuprates via systematic anisotropic transport measurements for Pb-doped Bi-2212 single crystals. We demonstrate that the characteristic temperatures of the "weak" pseudogap opening and electronic coherence cross each other at a critical doping level, while those of the "strong" pseudogap merges into that of superconducting fluctuations above the critical doping level. Our results indicate the importance of Mottness in high-$T_c$ superconductivity.

Enhanced superconducting properties of double-chain based superconductor Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$ synthesized by citrate pyrolysis technique

We report the enhanced superconducting properties of double-chain based superconductor Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$ synthesized by the citrate pyrolysis technique. %In spite of the polycrystalline bulk samples, we obtained the higher residual resistivity ratios (10-12). The reduction heat treatment in vacuum results in the appearance of superconducting state with $T_\mathrm{c}$=22-24 K, accompanied by the higher residual resistivity ratios. The superconducting volume fractions are estimated from the ZFC data to be 50$\sim55\%$, indicating the bulk superconductivity. We evaluate from the magneto-transport data the temperature dependence of the superconducting critical field, to establish the superconducting phase diagram. The upper critical magnetic field is estimated to be about 35 T at low temperatures from the resistive transition data using the Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg formula. The Hall coefficient $R_{H}$ of the 48-h-reduced superconducting sample is determined to be -0.5$\times10^{-3}$ cm$^{3}$/C at 30 K, suggesting higher electron concentration. These findings have a close relationship with homogeneous distributions of the superconducting grains and improved weak links between their superconducting grains in the present synthesis process.

Nonmonotonic Pressure Dependence of the Lattice Parameter $a$ in the Quasi-one-dimensional Superconductor Pr$_2$Ba$_4$Cu$_7$O$_{15-δ}$

In the quasi-one-dimensional superconductor, Pr$_2$Ba$_4$Cu$_7$O$_{15-δ}$, we found that the lattice parameter, $a$ increased against pressure, starting at 2.0 GPa at approximately 300 K. This result suggests that the two-dimensional inter-conducting-chain interaction along the $a$ axis is most enhanced at approximately 2.0 GPa. To discuss the dimensionality, we also measured the resistance under magnetic fields up to 14 T, because magneto-resistance is induced when a system changes from one-dimensional to two-dimensional.

Glassy dielectric anomaly and negative magneto-capacitance effect in electron-doped Ca$_{1-x}$Sr$_x$Mn$_{0.85}$Sb$_{0.15}$O$_3$

Manganites exhibit various types of electronic phenomena, and these electronic characteristics can be controlled by carrier doping. Herein, we report the dielectric and magnetic properties of electron-doped manganite Ca$_{1-x}$Sr$_x$Mn$_{0.85}$Sb$_{0.15}$O$_3$ ($x$ = 0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3). The temperature dependence of the real part of the dielectric constant exhibits a broad and large peak just below the kink temperature of magnetization and a sharp decrease at lower temperatures, accompanied by an anomaly of the imaginary part. Furthermore, isovalent Sr substitution enhances the temperature of the dielectric peak by more than 50 K. Interestingly, the dielectric peak exhibits a negative magnetic-field effect. For all measured samples, the low-temperature variation of the dielectric constant can be qualitatively explained based on the Maxwell-Wagner (MW) model that describes a system composed of grain boundaries and semiconducting grains. However, the observed peak and its negative magneto-capacitance effect at high temperatures cannot be reproduced by a combination of the MW model and magnetoresistance effect. The dielectric peak strongly indicates polaronic relaxation in the present system. These results suggest that polarons form clusters with a dipole ordering and magneto-electric coupling, which might be consistently understood by the charge-ordering scenario.

Dynamics of the lattice and spins in the phase-separated manganite (Eu$_{1-x}$Gd$_{x}$)$_{0.6}$Sr$_{0.4}$MnO$_3$

We investigated slow relaxations of the magnetostriction and residual magnetostriction of the phase-separated system (Eu$_{1-x}$Gd$_{x}$)$_{0.6}$Sr$_{0.4}$MnO$_3$, in which the metamagnetic transition from a paramagnetic insulating state to a ferromagnetic metallic state is accompanied by a lattice shrinkage. The relaxations are well fitted by a stretched exponential function, suggesting the strong frustraction between the double exchange interaction and Jahn-Teller effect. We have revealed that the Gd substitution suppresses the frozen phase-separated phase at low temperatures and stabilizes the paramagnetic insulating state in the dynamic phase-separated phase at intermediate temperatures. The former origin would be the randomness effect and the latter would be the suppression of the double exchange interaction.

Effect of pressure on magneto-transport properties in the superconducting and normal phases of the metallic double chain compound Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$

To examine the electronic phase diagram of superconducting CuO double chains, we report the effect of external pressure on the magneto-transport properties in superconducting and non-superconducting polycrystalline samples of Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$ at low temperatures (1.8-40 K) under various magnetic fields (up to 14 T). In the as-sintered non-superconducting sample, the magneto-resistance (MR) follows a power law of $H^{3/2}$ at low temperatures, which is in no agreement with the $H^{2}$ dependence of MR in the PrBa$_{2}$Cu$_{4}$O$_{8}$ system. The negative pressure dependence of the superconducting phase is qualitatively consistent with a theoretical prediction on the basis of the Tomonaga-Luttinger Liquid theory. The 48-h-reduced superconducting sample at ambient pressure exhibits no clear increase in MR for $T > T_{c,on}=26.5$ K. In contrast, with the application of pressure to the superconducting sample, the MR effects reappear and are also well fitted by $H^{3/2}$. The model of slightly warped Fermi surfaces explains not only the MR effect of the non-superconducting sample, but is also related to the reasons for the pressure-induced MR phenomena of the superconducting sample.

Thermodynamic Properties of Superconducting and Non-Superconducting Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$ Compounds with Metallic Double Chains

To examine the thermodynamic properties of Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$ compounds with metallic CuO double chains, we measured the specific heats of superconducting and non-superconducting polycrystalline samples at low temperatures (1.8-40 K) under various magnetic fields (up to 9 T). In the as-sintered non-superconducting sample, a $λ-$like enhancement in the specific heat measurement appeared near the antiferromagnetic transition temperature $T_{N}=17$ K. In contrast, the reduced superconducting sample with $T_{c,on}=26.5$ K exhibited no obvious superconducting anomaly in its specific data, but a Schottky-like broad maximum appeared at low temperatures. The Schottky-like anomaly was attributed to low-lying quasi-triplet splitting of Pr$^{3+}$ ions under the crystal field effect.

Restoration of magnetization reversal under hydrostatic pressure in the lightly electron-doped manganite compound (Ca,Sr)Mn0.95Sb0.05O3

We report on the anomalous magnetization reversal under hydrostatic pressure in the lightly electron-doped manganite compound (Ca$_{1-x}$Sr$_{x}$)Mn$_{0.95}$Sb$_{0.05}$O$_{3}$ with its fixed carrier content. In a weakly magnetic field cooled measurement, diamagnetic magnetization is observed for $x\leq 15\%$, which changes to positive values for $x>15\%$. However, on an application of pressure on the samples with $x=16\%$ and 17$\%$, magnetization reverses sign and diamagnetism is restored. We present a magnetic phase diagram as a function of Sr concentration, under both ambient and hydrostatic pressures. To understand better the thermodynamical properties of this system, we have measured the specific heat as a function of temperature under a field cooling of 100 Oe. Our data show no anomalies associated with the temperature dependent magnetization reversal, indicating the absence of a long-rang magnetic ordering. The $ac$ magnetic susceptibility measurement points to the existence of magnetic frustration for the Sr substituted samples exhibiting diamagnetic behavior.

Effect of magnetic field on the superconducting phase in the electron-doped metallic double-chain compound Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$

We report the magnetotransport and $dc$ magnetic susceptibility of the polycrystalline samples of Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$, to examine the effect of magnetic field on the superconducting phase of the metallic CuO double chain. The resistive critical magnetic field is estimated to be about 21 T at low temperatures from the resistive transition data. On the other hand, the corresponding critical field determined from the magnetization measurements gives rise to a very low value of $\sim 0.3$T at 2 K. These discrepancies in the magnetic response between the resistivity and magnetization data are caused by disappearance of the magnetically shielding effect even in relatively lower fields. In spite of the observation of the resistive drop associated with the superconducting transport currents, the suppression of the diamagnetic signal is probably related to the superconductivity of quasi one-dimensional CuO double-chain. The behavior of Seebeck coefficient in the superconducting Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$ is discussed on the basis of the double chain model from the density functional band calculation.

Suppression of the low-temperature phase-separated state under pressure in (Eu$_{1-x}$Gd$_{x}$)$_{0.6}$Sr$_{0.4}$MnO$_{3}$ ($x=0,0.1$)

We have demonstrated the effect of pressure on the steplike metamagnetic transition and its associated magnetostriction in (Eu$_{1-x}$Gd$_{x}$)$_{0.6}$Sr$_{0.4}$MnO$_{3}$ ($x=0$ and 0.1). The critical field initiating the field induced ferromagnetic transition in both samples is lowered by the applied pressure. The further application of external pressure up to 1.2 GPa on the $x=0$ parent sample causes a spontaneous ferromagnetic transition with a second-oder like character, leading to collapses of the steplike transition and its concomitant lattice striction. These findings indicate a crucial role of the low-temperature phase separated state characterized by a suppressed magnetization upon decreasing temperature.

Magnetization and transport properties in the superconducting Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$ with metallic double-chain

We have reported the effect of pressure on the magnetization, and transport properties in the nominal composition Pr$_{2}$Ba$_{4}$Cu$_{7}$O$_{15-δ}$ synthesized by a sol-gel technique. A reduction treatment of the as-sintered sample in vacuum causes higher superconductivity achieving $T_{c,on}=\sim 30$ K for $δ=0.94$. Application of hydrostatic pressure on the oxygen depleted sample enhances its onset temperature up to 36 K at 1.2 GPa, indicating the nearly optimum doping level of the charge carrier in comparison to the pressure dependence of lower $T_{c}$ samples with $δ=0.45$. Seebeck coefficient of the superconducting sample shows a metallic conduction, followed by a clear drop below $T_{c,on}$ and is in its temperature dependence below 100 K quite different from that of the non-superconducting one. This finding strongly suggests a dramatic change of the electronic state along the CuO double chain due to the reduction treatment for the appearance of superconductivity .

Effect of pressure on magnetization and magnetostriction jumps in the manganite Eu$_{0.58}$Sr$_{0.42}$MnO$_{3}$

We have demonstrated the effect of pressure on magnetization jump and its associated magnetostriction in Eu$_{0.58}$Sr$_{0.42}$MnO$_{3}$. The critical field lowered by the applied pressure is explained by a suppression of the metastable blocked state, which is inherent to the phase separated manganite system exhibiting the magnetic avalanche. To reduce a factor of the bad thermal coupling in the bulk sample, and to further examine the nature of the magnetization jump, we have performed the influence of pressure on the isothermal magnetization of the powder sample. There is no discrepancy in the critical field between the bulk and powder samples although the $MH$ curve of the latter is not saturated at high fields. These findings indicate a crucial role of the frozen phase separated state in the abrupt transition.
