The Global Higgs Picture at 27 TeV

We estimate the reach of global Higgs analyses at a 27 TeV hadron collider in terms of Higgs couplings and in terms of a gauge-invariant effective Lagrangian, including invisible Higgs decays and the Higgs self-coupling. The new collider will indirectly probe new physics in the TeV range and allow for a meaningful test of the Higgs self-coupling also embedded in a global analysis.

Indirect Probe of Electroweak-Interacting Particles with Mono-Lepton Signatures at Hadron Colliders

Electroweak-interacting massive particles (EWIMPs) exist in a broad class of new physics models beyond the Standard Model. Searching for such particles is one of most primary goal at the LHC and future colliders. The EWIMP generally affects the LHC signatures through quantum corrections even without direct productions. By measuring the Standard Model processes precisely, we can indirectly probe the EWIMPs. In this paper, we study the current constraint and future prospect of the EWIMPs by using the precision measurements of mono-lepton production from the charged Drell-Yan processes at hadron colliders. We found the mono-lepton signature can be a better probe than dilepton signature from the neutral Drell-Yan processes.

Higgs Pair Production at Future Hadron Colliders: From Kinematics to Dynamics

The measurement of the triple Higgs coupling is a key benchmark for the LHC and future colliders. It directly probes the Higgs potential and its fundamental properties in connection to new physics beyond the Standard Model. There exist two phase space regions with an enhanced sensitivity to the Higgs self-coupling, the Higgs pair production threshold and an intermediate top pair threshold. We show how the invariant mass distribution of the Higgs pair offers a systematic way to extract the Higgs self-coupling, focusing on the leading channel $pp\to hh+X\to b\bar b\ γγ+X$. We utilize new features of the signal events at higher energies and estimate the potential of a high-energy upgrade of the LHC and a future hadron collider with realistic simulations. We find that the high-energy upgrade of the LHC to 27 TeV would reach a 5$σ$ observation with an integrated luminosity of 2.5 ab$^{-1}$. It would have the potential to reach 15% (30%) accuracy at the 68% (95%) confidence level to determine the SM Higgs boson self-coupling. A future 100 TeV collider could improve the self-coupling measurement to better than 5% (10%) at the 68% (95%) confidence level.

Muon g-2 and rare top decays in up-type specific variant axion models

The invisible variant axion models (VAM's) offer a very attractive solution for the strong CP problem without the domain wall problem. We consider the up-type specific variant axion models and examine their compatibility with the muon $g-2$ anomaly and the constraints from lepton flavor universality, several flavor observables, and top quark measurements. We find that the combined $χ^2$ fit favors the parameters $m_A\sim 15$ GeV and $\tanβ\sim 40$, the same as the type-X 2HDM. Moreover, we find that there are no conflict with any flavor observables as long as the mixing angle $ρ_u$ is sufficiently small. In particular, a small nonzero mixing angle $ρ_u \sim π/100$ is slightly favored by the observed $B_s \to μμ$ branching ratio. The up-specific VAM predicts the flavor-violating top rare decay $t\to uA$ followed by $A \to ττ$, which would provide a smoking gun signature at the LHC. We show that current searches of $A$ already impose some constraints on the parameter space but are not sensitive to the most interesting light $m_A$ region. We propose an efficient search strategy that employs di-tau tagging using jet substructure information, and demonstrate that it can enhance the sensitivity on $BR(t \to uA)$, especially in the light $m_A$ region. This model also predicts the flavor-violating decay of heavy Higgs bosons, such as $H \to t u$, that would suppress the $H \to ττ/μμ$ decays. We also examine the up-specific VAM with the muon-specific lepton sector and the down-type specific VAM's as interesting alternative scenarios.

Indirect Probe of Electroweakly Interacting Particles at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider

Many extensions of the standard model (SM) involve new massive particles charged under the electroweak gauge symmetry. The electroweakly interacting new particles affect various SM processes through radiative corrections. We discuss the possibility of detecting such new particles based on the precise measurement of the SM processes at high energy hadron colliders. It then turns out that Drell-Yan processes receive radiative corrections from the electroweakly interacting particles at the level of ${\cal O}$(0.1-10) %. It is hence possible to indirectly search for the Higgsino up to the mass of 400 GeV and the quintet (5-plet) Majorana fermion up to the mass of 1200 GeV at the high-luminosity running of the Large Hadron Collider, if the systematic uncertainty associated with the estimation of the SM background becomes lower than the statistical one.

Current Status of Top-Specific Variant Axion Model

The invisible variant axion model is very attractive as it is free from the domain wall problem. This model requires at least two Higgs doublets at the electroweak scale, with one Higgs doublet carrying a nonzero Peccei-Quinn (PQ) charge and the other being neutral under the PQ $\text U(1)$ symmetry. We consider a scenario where only the right-handed top quark is charged under the PQ symmetry and couples with the PQ-charged Higgs doublet. As a general prediction of this model, the top quark can decay to the observed standard model-like Higgs boson $h$ and the charm or up quark, $t\to h~ c/u$, which recently exhibit slight excesses at LHC Run-I and Run-II. It will soon be testable at the LHC Run-II. If the rare top decay excess stays at the observed central value, we show that $\tan β\sim 1$ or smaller is preferred by the Higgs data. The chiral nature of the Higgs flavor-changing interaction is a distinctive feature, and can be tested using the angular distribution of the $t \to ch$ decays at the LHC.

Mono-top Signature from Fermionic Top-partner

We investigate mono-top signatures arising from phenomenological models of fermionic top-partners, which are degenerate in mass and decay into a bosonic dark matter candidate, either spin-0 or spin-1. Such a model provides a mono-top signature as a smoking-gun, while conventional searches with $t\bar t$ + missing transverse momentum are limited. Two such scenarios: i) a phenomenological 3rd generation extra dimensional model with excited top and electroweak sectors, and ii) a model where only a top-partner and a dark matter particle are added to the SM, are studied in the degenerate mass regime. We find that in the case of extra dimension a number of different processes give rise to effectively the same mono-top final state, and a great gain can be obtained in the sensitivity for this channel. We show that the mono-top search can explore top-partner masses up to 630 GeV and 300 GeV for the 3rd generation extra dimensional model and the minimal fermionic top-partner model, respectively, at the high luminosity LHC.

Higgs mediated CLFV processes $μN(eN)\rightarrowτX$ via gluon operators

We revisit charged lepton flavor violating (CLFV) scattering processes $\ell_{i} N \to τX \, (\ell_{i} \ni e, μ)$ mediated by Higgs. We point out that a new subprocess $\ell_{i} g \to τg$ via the effective interactions of Higgs and gluon gives the dominant contribution to $\ell_{i} N \to τX$ for an incident beam energy of $E_{\ell} \lesssim 1\,\text{TeV}$ in fixed target experiments. Furthermore, in the light of quark number conservation, we consider quark pair-production processes $\ell_{i} g \to τq \bar{q}$ ($q$ denotes quarks) instead of $\ell_{i} q \to τq$. This corrects the threshold energy of each subprocess contributing to $σ(\ell_{i} N \to τX)$. Reevaluation of $σ(\ell_{i} N \to τX)$ including all of relevant subprocesses shows that the search for $\ell_{i} N \to τX$ could serve a complementary opportunity with other relevant processes to shed light on the Higgs CLFV.

Tagging a mono-top signature in Natural SUSY

We study the feasibility of probing a region of Natural Supersymmetry where the stop and higgsino masses are compressed. Although this region is most effectively searched for in the mono-jet channel, this signature is present in many other non-supersymmetric frameworks. Therefore, another channel that carries orthogonal information is required to confirm the existence of the light stop and higgsinos. We show that a supersymmetric version of the $t \bar t H$ process, $pp \to t \tilde t_1 \tilde χ^0_{1(2)}$, can have observably large rate when both the stop and higgsinos are significantly light, and it leads to a distinctive mono-top signature in the compressed mass region. We demonstrate that the hadronic channel of the mono-top signature can effectively discriminate the signal from backgrounds by tagging a hadronic top-jet. We show that the hadronic channel of mono-top signature offers a significant improvement over the leptonic channel and the sensitivity reaches $m_{\tilde t_1} \simeq 420$ GeV at the 13 TeV LHC with 3 ab$^{-1}$ luminosity.

Surviving scenario of stop decays for ATLAS $\ell+jets+E^{miss}_T$ search

Recently ATLAS reported a $3.3σ$ excess in the stop search with $\ell+jets+E_T^{miss}$ channel. We try to interpret the signal by a light stop pair production in the MSSM. We find: (1) simple models where stop decays into a higgsino or a bino are not favored. (2) an extension of them can explain the data at $2σ$ level without conflicting with the other search channels. A surviving possibility includes a light stop and a light higgsino, which is expected in a natural SUSY scenario.

Mono-top Signature from Supersymmetric $t \bar t H$ Channel

We point out that a distinctive mono-top signature is present in Natural SUSY scenarios when a scalar top-quark and higgsinos are almost mass degenerate. This signature originates from a supersymmetric counter part of the $t \bar t H$ process, i.e. $pp \to \tilde t t \tilde h$. Unlike mono-jet signatures exploiting initial state radiation, this channel can be regarded as a smoking gun signature of a light stop and higgsinos, allowing a direct probe of the stop and neutralino sectors. The production rate of this channel largely depends on the up-type higgsino components in the neutralinos while the stop sector is sensitive to angular distributions of top-quark's decay products. We develop an optimal search strategy to capture the supersymmetric $t \bar t H$ process and find that a high luminosity LHC can probe the stop and higgsino sectors with $m_{\tilde t_1} \lesssim 380$ GeV and $m_{\tilde t_1} - m_{\tilde χ_1^0} \lesssim m_W$. Additionally, we propose a kinematic variable with which one can measure the stop mixing in this channel.

Heavy Fermion Bound States for Diphoton Excess at 750GeV $\sim$ Collider and Cosmological Constraints $\sim$

A colored heavy particle with sufficiently small width may form non-relativistic bound states when they are produced at the large hadron collider\,(LHC), and they can annihilate into a diphoton final state. The invariant mass of the diphoton would be around twice of the colored particle mass. In this paper, we study if such bound state can be responsible for the 750 GeV diphoton excess reported by ATLAS and CMS. We found that the best-fit signal cross section is obtained for the SU(2)$_L$ singlet colored fermion $X$ with $Y_X=4/3$. Having such an exotic hypercharge, the particle is expected to decay through some higher dimensional operators, consistent with the small width assumption. The decay of $X$ may involve a stable particle $χ$, if both $X$ and $χ$ are odd under some conserved $Z_2$ symmetry. In that case, the particle $X$ suffers from the constraints of jets + missing $E_T$ searches by ATLAS and CMS at 8 TeV and 13 TeV. We found that such a scenario still survives if the mass difference between $X$ and $χ$ is above $\sim$ 30 GeV for $m_X \sim 375$ GeV. Even assuming pair annihilation of $χ$ is small, the relic density of $χ$ is small enough if the mass difference between $X$ and $χ$ is smaller than $\sim$ 40 GeV.

LHC $τ$-rich Tests of Lepton-specific 2HDM for $(g-2)_μ$

The lepton-sepcific (or type X) 2HDM (L2HDM) is an attractive new physics candidate explaining the muon $g-2$ anomaly requiring a light CP-odd boson $A$ and large $\tanβ$. This scenario leads to $τ$-rich signatures, such as $3τ$, $4τ$ and $4τ+W/Z$, which can be readily accessible at the LHC. We first study the whole L2HDM parameter space to identify allowed regions of extra Higgs boson masses as well as two couplings $λ_{hAA}$ and $ξ_h^l$ which determine the 125 GeV Higgs boson decays $h\to τ^+τ^-$ and $h\to AA/AA^*(τ^+τ^-)$, respectively. This motivates us to set up two regions of interest: (A) $m_A \ll m_{H} \sim m_{H^\pm}$, and (B) $m_A \sim m_{H^\pm} \sim {\cal O}(100) \mbox{GeV} \ll m_H$, for which derive the current constraints by adopting the chargino-neutralino search at the LHC8, and then analyze the LHC14 prospects by implementing $τ$-tagging algorithm. A correlated study of the upcoming precision determination of the 125 GeV Higgs boson decay properties as well as the observation of multi-tau events at the next runs of LHC will be able to shed light on the L2HDM option for the muon $g-2$.

Unitarity-controlled resonances after Higgs discovery

If the recently discovered Higgs boson's couplings deviate from the Standard Model expectation, we may anticipate new resonant physics in the weak boson fusion channels resulting from high scale unitarity sum rules of longitudinal gauge boson scattering. Motivated by excesses in analyses of multi-leptons+missing energy+jets final states during run 1, we perform a phenomenological investigation of these channels at the LHC bounded by current Higgs coupling constraints. Such an approach constrains the prospects to observe such new physics at the LHC as a function of very few and generic parameters and allows the investigation of the strong requirement of probability conservation in the electroweak sector to high energies. Our analysis is directly relevant for the 2 TeV excess reported recently by the CMS and ATLAS collaborations.

Flavor-Changing Neutral-Current Decays in Top-Specific Variant Axion Model

The invisible variant axion model is very attractive as it is free from the domain wall problem. This model requires two Higgs doublets at the electroweak scale where one Higgs doublet carries a nonzero Peccei-Quinn (PQ) charge and the other is neutral under the PQ $\text U(1)$ symmetry. We consider the most interesting and less constrained scenario of the variant axion model, where only the right-handed top quark is charged under the PQ symmetry and couples with the PQ-charged Higgs doublet. As a result, the top quark can decay to the observed standard-model-like Higgs boson $h$ and the charm or up quark, $t\to h~ c/u$, which is testable soon at the LHC Run-II. Moreover, we propose a method to probe the chiral nature of the Higgs flavor-changing interaction using the angular distribution of $t \to ch$ decays if a sufficient number of such events are observed. We also show that our model has the capacity to explain the $h\toτμ$ decay reported by the CMS Collaboration, if the right-handed tau lepton also carries a PQ charge and couples to the PQ-charged Higgs boson.

The Relic Neutralino Surface at a 100 TeV collider

We map the parameter space for MSSM neutralino dark matter which freezes out to the observed relic abundance, in the limit that all superpartners except the neutralinos and charginos are decoupled. In this space of relic neutralinos, we show the dominant dark matter annihilation modes, the mass splittings among the electroweakinos, direct detection rates, and collider cross-sections. The mass difference between the dark matter and the next-to-lightest neutral and charged states is typically much less than electroweak gauge boson masses. With these small mass differences, the relic neutralino surface is accessible to a future 100 TeV hadron collider, which can discover inter-neutralino mass splittings down to 1 GeV and thermal relic dark matter neutralino masses up to 1.5 TeV with a few inverse attobarns of luminosity. This coverage is a direct consequence of the increased collider energy: the Standard Model events with missing transverse momentum in the TeV range have mostly hard electroweak radiation, distinct from the soft radiation shed in compressed electroweakino decays. We exploit this kinematic feature in final states including photons and leptons, tailored to the 100 TeV collider environment.

Boosted Higgs Shapes

The inclusive Higgs production rate through gluon fusion has been measured to be in agreement with the Standard Model (SM). We show that even if the inclusive Higgs production rate is very SM-like, a precise determination of the boosted Higgs transverse momentum shape offers the opportunity to see effects of natural new physics. These measurements are generically motivated by effective field theory arguments and specifically in extensions of the SM with a natural weak scale, like composite Higgs models and natural supersymmetry. We show in detail how a measurement at high transverse momentum of $H\to 2\ell+\mathbf{p}\!\!/_T$ via $H\to ττ$ and $H\to WW^*$ could be performed and demonstrate that it offers a compelling alternative to the $t\bar t H$ channel. We discuss the sensitivity to new physics in the most challenging scenario of an exactly SM-like inclusive Higgs cross-section.

Higgs boson to di-tau channel in Chargino-Neutralino searches at the LHC

We consider chargino-neutralino production, $\tildeχ_2^0 \tildeχ_1^\pm \to (h \tildeχ_1^0)(W^\pm \tildeχ_1^0)$, which results in Higgs boson final states that subsequently decay (inclusively) to leptons (either $h\rightarrow τ^+τ^-$ or $h\rightarrow W^+W^- \to (e^+e^-, μ^+μ^-, τ^+τ^-)+E_T^\mathrm{miss}$). Such channels are dominant in large regions of the allowed supersymmetric parameter space for many concrete supersymmetric models. The existence of leptons allows for good control over the backgrounds, rendering this channel competitive to the conventional $h\rightarrow b\bar{b}$ channel that has been previously used to impose constraints. We include hadronic decays of the $τ$ leptons in our analysis through a $τ$-identification algorithm. We consider integrated luminosities of 100 fb$^{-1}$, 300 fb$^{-1}$ and 3000 fb$^{-1}$, for an LHC running at $pp$ centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV and provide the expected constraints on the $M_2$-$M_1$ plane.
