Pietsch-Maurey-Rosenthal factorization of summing multilinear operators

The main purpose of this paper is the study of a~new class of summing multilinear operators acting from the product of Banach lattices with some nontrivial lattice convexity. A~mixed Pietsch-Maurey-Rosenthal type factorization theorem for these operators is proved under weaker convexity requirements than the ones that are needed in the Maurey-Rosenthal factorization through products of $L^q$-spaces. A~by-product of our factorization is an extension of multilinear operators defined by a~$q$-concavity type property to a~product of special Banach function lattices which inherit some lattice-geometric properties of the domain spaces, as order continuity and $p$-convexity. Factorization through Fremlin's tensor products is also analyzed. Applications are presented to study a~special class of linear operators between Banach function lattices that can be characterized by a strong version of $q$-concavity. This class contains $q$-dominated operators, and so the obtained results provide a~new factorization theorem for operators from this class.

On the Fourier spectrum of functions on Boolean cubes

Let $f$ be a real-valued, degree-$d$ Boolean function defined on the $n$-dimensional Boolean cube $\{\pm 1\}^{n}$, and $f(x) = \sum_{S \subset \{1,\ldots,d\}} \widehat{f}(S) \prod_{k \in S} x_k$ its Fourier-Walsh expansion. The main result states that there is an absolute constant $C >0$ such that the $\ell_{2d/(d+1)}$-sum of the Fourier coefficients of $f:\{\pm 1\}^{n} \rightarrow [-1,1]$ is bounded by $\leq C^{\sqrt{d \log d}}$. It was recently proved that a similar result holds for complex-valued polynomials on the $n$-dimensional poly torus $\mathbb{T}^n$, but that in contrast to this a replacement of the $n$-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^n$ by $n$-dimensional cube $[-1, 1]^n$ leads to a substantially weaker estimate. This in the Boolean case forces us to invent novel techniques which differ from the ones used in the complex or real case. We indicate how our result is linked with several questions in quantum information theory.

Calderón-Mityagin couples of Banach spaces related to decreasing functions

A number of Calderón-Mityagin couples and relative Calderón-Mityagin pairs are identified among Banach function spaces defined in terms of the least decreasing majorant construction on the half line. The interpolation structure of such spaces is shown to closely parallel that of the rearrangement invariant spaces, and it is proved that a couple of these spaces is a Calderón-Mityagin couple if and only if the corresponding couple of rearrangement invariant spaces is a Calderón-Mityagin couple. Consequently, the class of all interpolation spaces for any couple of spaces of this type admits a complete description by the K-method if and only if the class of all interpolation spaces for the corresponding couple of rearrangement invariant spaces does. Analogous results are proved for spaces defined in terms of the level function construction. In the main, the conclusions for both types of spaces remain valid when Lebesgue measure on the half line is replaced by a general Borel measure on R. However, for certain measures the class of interpolation spaces of these new spaces may be degenerate, reducing the "if and only if" of the main results to a single implication.

Bohnenblust-Hille inequalities for Lorentz spaces via interpolation

We prove that the Lorentz sequence space $\ell_{\frac{2m}{m+1},1}$ is, in a~precise sense, optimal among all symmetric Banach sequence spaces satisfying a Bohnenblust-Hille type inequality for $m$-linear forms or $m$-homogeneous polynomials on $\mathbb{C}^n$. Motivated by this result we develop methods for dealing with subtle Bohnenblust-Hille type inequalities in the setting of Lorentz spaces. Based on an interpolation approach and the Blei-Fournier inequalities involving mixed type spaces, we prove multilinear and polynomial Bohnenblust-Hille type inequalities in Lorentz spaces with subpolynomial and subexponential constants. Improving a remarkable result of Balasubramanian-Calado-Queffélec, we show an application to the theory of Dirichlet series.

$L^p$-norms and Mahler's measure of polynomials on the $n$-dimensional torus

We prove Nikol'skii type inequalities which for polynomials on the $n$-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^n$ relate the $L^p$-with the $L^q$-norm (with respect to the normalized Lebesgue measure and $0 <p <q < \infty$). Among other things we show that $C=\sqrt{q/p}$ is the best constant such that $\|P\|_{L^q}\leq C^{\text{deg}(P)} \|P\|_{L^p}$ for all homogeneous polynomials $P$ on $\mathbb{T}^n$. We also prove an exact inequality between the $L^p$-norm of a polynomial $P$ on $\mathbb{T}^n$ and its Mahler measure $M(P)$, which is the geometric mean of $|P|$ with respect to the normalized Lebesgue measure on $\mathbb{T}^n$. Using extrapolation we transfer this estimate into a Khintchine-Kahane type inequality, which, for polynomials on $\mathbb{T}^n$, relates a certain exponential Orlicz norm and Mahler's measure. Applications are given, including some interpolation estimates.

Summing inclusion maps between symmetric sequence spaces

We prove a substantial extension of a well-known result due to Bennett and Carl: The inclusion of a 2-concave symmetric Banach sequence space E into l_2 is (E,1)-summing, i.e. for every unconditionally summable sequence (x_n) in E the scalar sequence (||x_n||_2) is contained in E. Various applications are given, e.g. to the theory of eigenvalue distribution of compact operators and approximation theory.
