Dark Classification Matters: Searching for Primordial Black Holes with LSST

We present projected constraints on the abundance of primordial black holes (PBHs) as a constituent of dark matter, based on microlensing observations from the upcoming Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. We use a catalogue of microlensing light curves simulated with Rubin Observatory's OpSims to demonstrate that competitive constraints crucially rely on minimising the false positive rate (FPR) of the classification algorithm. We propose the Bayesian information criterion and a Boosted Decision Tree as effective discriminators and compare their derived efficiency and FPR to a more standard $χ^2$-test.

Symbolic Regression for Beyond the Standard Model Physics

We propose symbolic regression as a powerful tool for studying Beyond the Standard Model physics. As a benchmark model, we consider the so-called Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, which has a four-dimensional parameter space defined at the GUT scale. We provide a set of analytical expressions that reproduce three low-energy observables of interest in terms of the parameters of the theory: the Higgs mass, the contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, and the cold dark matter relic density. To demonstrate the power of the approach, we employ the symbolic expressions in a global fits analysis to derive the posterior probability densities of the parameters, which are obtained extremely rapidly in comparison with conventional methods.

Anomaly Detection to identify Transients in LSST Time Series Data

We introduce a novel approach to detecting microlensing events and other transients in light curves, utilising the isolation forest (iForest) algorithm for anomaly detection. Focusing on the Legacy Survey of Space and Time by the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, we show that an iForest trained on signal-less light curves can efficiently identify microlensing events by different types of dark objects and binaries, as well as variable stars. We further show that the iForest has real-time applicability through a drip-feed analysis, demonstrating its potential as a valuable tool for LSST alert brokers to efficiently prioritise and classify transient candidates for follow-up observations.

Non-universal $Z'$ from Fluxed GUTs

We make a first systematic study of non-universal TeV scale neutral gauge bosons $Z'$ arising naturally from a class of F-theory inspired models broken via $SU(5)$ by flux. The phenomenological models we consider may originate from semi-local F-theory GUTs arising from a single $E_8$ point of local enhancement, assuming the minimal ${\cal Z}_2$ monodromy in order to allow for a renormalisable top quark Yukawa coupling. We classify such non-universal anomaly-free $U(1)'$ models requiring a minimal low energy spectrum and also allowing for a vector-like family. We discuss to what extent such models can account for the anomalous $B$-decay ratios $R_{K}$ and $R_{K^*}$.

Starobinsky-like inflation in no-scale supergravity Wess-Zumino model with Polonyi term

We propose a simple modification of the no-scale supergravity Wess-Zumino model of Starobinsky-like inflation to include a Polonyi term in the superpotential. The purpose of this term is to provide an explicit mechanism for supersymmetry breaking at the end of inflation. We show how successful inflation can be achieved for a gravitino mass satisfying the strict upper bound $m_{3/2}< 10^3$ TeV, with favoured values $m_{3/2}\lesssim\mathcal{O}(1)$ TeV. The model suggests that SUSY may be discovered in collider physics experiments such as the LHC or the FCC.
