Semi-stable vector bundles on fibred varieties

Let $π:Y\to X$ be a surjective morphism between two irreducible, smooth complex projective varieties with ${\rm dim}Y>{\rm dim}X >0$. We consider polarizations of the form $L_c=L+c\cdotπ^*A$ on $Y$, with $c>0$, where $L,A$ are ample line bundles on $Y,X$ respectively. For $c$ sufficiently large, we show that the restriction of a torsion free sheaf $\mathcal{F}$ on $Y$ to the generic fibre $Φ$ of $π$ is semi-stable as soon as $\mathcal{F}$ is $L_c$-semi-stable; conversely, if $\mathcal{F}\otimes\mathcal{O}_Φ$ is $L$-stable on $Φ$, then $\mathcal{F}$ is $L_c$-stable. We obtain explicit lower bounds for $c$ satisfying these properties. Using this result, we discuss the construction of semi-stable vector bundles on Hirzebruch surfaces and on $\mathbb{P}^2$-bundles over $\mathbb{P}^1$, and establish the irreducibility and the rationality of the corresponding moduli spaces.

Modular properties of nodal curves on K3 surfaces

In this paper we partially address two issues: - The first is a rigidity property for pairs (S,C) consisting of a general projective K3 surface S, and a curve C obtained as the normalization of a nodal, hyperplane section of S. We prove that a non-trivial deformation of such a pair (S,C) induces a non-trivial deformation of C; - The second question concerns the Wahl map of curves C as above. We prove that the Wahl map of the normalization of a nodal curve contained in a general projective K3 surface is non-surjective. In both cases, we impose upper bounds on the number of nodes of the hyperplane section.

Strong exceptional sequences of vector bundles on certain Fano varieties

In an unpublished preprint, A. King conjectured that there are tilting bundles over projective varieties which are obtained as invariant quotients of affine spaces for linear actions of reductive groups. The goal of this paper is to give further examples of strong exceptional sequences of vector bundles on certain projective varieties. These are obtained as geometric invariant quotients of affine spaces by linear actions of reductive groups, as in King's conjecture.

Quotients of affine spaces for actions of reductive groups

In this paper we study actions of reductive groups on affine spaces. We prove that there is a fan structure on the space of characters of the group, which parameterizes the possible invariant quotients. In the second half of the paper we study various geometrical properties of the quotients: we compute their Chow ring and the cohomology ring (in case we work over the complex numbers), both with rational coefficients. Actually, the cycle map turns out to be an isomorphism. Further, we construct families of such quotients over reduced base schemes, and compute again the Chow and the cohomology rings. Finally, we prove the vanishing of the higher cohomology groups of nef line bundles on the geometric quotients that we obtain.

Families of toric varieties

The goal of this paper is to define families of toric varieties and to study their properties. These families are locally trivial fibrations over some base, whose fibres are isomorphic to a fixed complete toric variety. The study is motivated by the occurence of such families in the context of gauged sigma models for toric varieties.

GW Invariants and Invariant Quotients

The article investigates the following question: given a projective variety X acted on by a connected and reductive group G, which is the relationship between the Gromov-Witten invariants of X and those of X//G? In this study we shall also try to give an algebraic approach to the so called Hamiltonian Gromov-Witten invariants which have appeared rather recenly in the literature.

Higher genus curves on toric varieties

Given a smooth and projective curve C and a smooth and projective toric variety X, we first describe a compactification of the space of morphisms from C to X representing a fixed homology class, and after we study the intersection theory on this variety.
