Spectrum of periodic chain graphs with time-reversal non-invariant vertex coupling

We investigate spectral properties of quantum graphs in the form of a periodic chain of rings with a connecting link between each adjacent pair, assuming that wave functions at the vertices are matched through conditions manifestly non-invariant with respect to time reversal. We discuss, in particular, the high-energy behavior of such systems and the limiting situations when one of the edges in the elementary cell of such a graph shrinks to zero. The spectrum depends on the topology and geometry of the graph. The probability that an energy belongs to the spectrum takes three different values reflecting the vertex parities and mirror symmetry, and the band patterns are influenced by commensurability of graph edge lengths.

On spectral asymptotic of quasi-exactly solvable quartic

Motivated by the earlier results, we study theoretically and numerically the asymptotics and the monodromy of the quasi-exactly solvable part of the spectrum of the quasi-exactly solvable quartic introduced by C.~M.~Bender and S.~Boettcher. In particular, we formulate a conjecture on the coincidence of the asymptotic shape of the configuration of the branching points of the latter quartic with the asymptotic shape of zeros of the Yablonskii-Vorob'ev polynomials recently described and present its (conjectural) alternative description. Further we present a numerical study of the spectral monodromy for the os- cillator in question.

Quantum graphs: self-adjoint, and yet exhibiting a nontrivial $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry

We demonstrate that a quantum graph exhibits a $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry provided the coefficients in the condition describing the wave function matching at the vertices are circulant matrices; this symmetry is nontrivial if they are not invariant with respect to transposition. We also illustrate how the transport properties of such graphs are significantly influenced by the presence or absence of the non-Robin component of the coupling.

Spectral properties of spiral-shaped quantum waveguides

We investigate properties of a particle confined to a hard-wall spiral-shaped region. As a case study we analyze in detail the Archimedean spiral for which the spectrum above the continuum threshold is absolutely continuous away from the thresholds. The subtle difference between the radial and perpendicular width implies, however, that in contrast to `less curved' waveguides, the discrete spectrum is empty in this case. We also discuss modifications such a multi-arm Archimedean spirals and spiral waveguides with a central cavity; in the latter case bound state already exist if the cavity exceeds a critical size. For more general spiral regions the spectral nature depends on whether they are `expanding' or `shrinking'. The most interesting situation occurs in the asymptotically Archimedean case where the existence of bound states depends on the direction from which the asymptotics is reached.

In search of higher Bochner theorem

We initiate the study of a natural generalisation of the classical Bochner-Krall problem asking which linear ordinary differential operators possess sequences of eigenpolynomials satisfying linear recurrence relations of finite length; the classical case corresponds to the 3-term recurrence relations with real coefficients subject to some extra restrictions. We formulate a general conjecture and prove it in the first non-trivial case of operators of order 3.

Quantum graphs with vertices of a preferred orientation

Motivated by a recent application of quantum graphs to model the anomalous Hall effect we discuss quantum graphs the vertices of which exhibit a preferred orientation. We describe an example of such a vertex coupling and analyze the corresponding band spectra of lattices with square and hexagonal elementary cells showing that they depend heavily on the network topology, in particular, on the degrees of the vertices involved.

Spectral analysis of a class of Schroedinger operators exhibiting a parameter-dependent spectral transition

We analyze two-dimensional Schrödinger operators with the potential $|xy|^p - λ(x^2+y^2)^{p/(p+2)}$ where $p\ge 1$ and $λ\ge 0$, which exhibit an abrupt change of its spectral properties at a critical value of the coupling constant $λ$. We show that in the supercritical case the spectrum covers the whole real axis. In contrast, for $λ$ below the critical value the spectrum is purely discrete and we establish a Lieb-Thirring-type bound on its moments. In the critical case the essential spectrum covers the positive halfline while the negative spectrum can be only discrete, we demonstrate numerically the existence of a ground state eigenvalue.

Non-equilibrium current via geometric scatterers

We investigate non-equilibrium particle transport in the system consisting of a geometric scatterer and two leads coupled to heat baths with different chemical potentials. We derive expression for the corresponding current the carriers of which are fermions and analyze numerically its dependence of the model parameters in examples, where the scatterer has a rectangular or triangular shape.

On spectral polynomials of the Heun equation. II

The well-known Heun equation has the form: Q(z)S''(z)+P(z)S'(z)+V(z)S(z)=0 where Q(z) is a cubic complex polynomial, P(z) and V(z) are polynomials of degrees at most 2 and 1 resp. One of the classical problems about the Heun equation is for a given positive integer N to find all possible linear polynomials V(z) such that the latter equation has a polynomial solution S(z) of degree N. Below we prove a conjecture of the 2nd author claiming that the union of roots of such V(z)'s for a given N tends when N->oo to a certain compact connecting the three roots of Q(z) and given by the condition that a certain natural abelian integral is real-valued.

Non-Hermitian spectral effects in a PT-symmetric waveguide

We present a numerical study of the spectrum of the Laplacian in an unbounded strip with PT-symmetric boundary conditions. We focus on non-Hermitian features of the model reflected in an unusual dependence of the eigenvalues below the continuous spectrum on various boundary-coupling parameters.

A single-mode quantum transport in serial-structure geometric scatterers

We study transport in quantum systems consisting of a finite array of N identical single-channel scatterers. A general expression of the S matrix in terms of the individual-element data obtained recently for potential scattering is rederived in this wider context. It shows in particular how the band spectrum of the infinite periodic system arises in the limit $N\to\infty$. We illustrate the result on two kinds of examples. The first are serial graphs obtained by chaining loops or T-junctions. A detailed discussion is presented for a finite-periodic "comb"; we show how the resonance poles can be computed within the Krein formula approach. Another example concerns geometric scatterers where the individual element consists of a surface with a pair of leads; we show that apart of the resonances coming from the decoupled-surface eigenvalues such scatterers exhibit the high-energy behavior typical for the delta' interaction for the physically interesting couplings.

Exactly solvable three-body Calogero-type model with translucent two-body barriers

A new exactly solvable alternative to the Calogero three-particle model is proposed. Sharing its confining long-range part, it contains the mere zero-range two-particle barriers. Their penetrability gives rise to a tunneling, tunable via their three independent strengths. Their variability can control the removal of the degeneracy of the energy levels in an innovative, non-perturbative manner.

Evanescent modes in a multiple scattering factorization

We discuss differences between the exact S-matrix for scattering on serial structures and a known factorized expression constructed of single-element S-matrices. As an illustration, we use an exactly solvable model of a quantum wire with two point impurities.
