GNN-based track reconstruction for MUonE experiment

A study of a Graph Neural Network-based model for track reconstruction in the context of MUonE experiment is presented, using simulated data corresponding to the test-run MUonE detector setup. The fully three dimensional model successfully addresses both the reconstruction and particle identification challenges essential for achieving the experiment's primary physics goal. It provides significantly faster pattern recognition than classical reconstruction algorithms, while maintaining comparable efficiency and resolution.

Machine learning based event reconstruction for the MUonE experiment

A proof-of-concept solution based on the machine learning techniques has been implemented and tested within the MUonE experiment designed to search for New Physics in the sector of anomalous magnetic moment of a muon. The results of the DNN based algorithm are comparable to the classical reconstruction, reducing enormously the execution time for the pattern recognition phase. The present implementation meets the conditions of classical reconstruction, providing an advantageous basis for further studies.

A study of muon-electron elastic scattering in a test beam

In 2018, a test run with muons in the North Area at CERN was performed, running parasitically downstream of the COMPASS spectrometer. The aim of the test was to investigate the elastic interactions of muons on atomic electrons, in an experimental configuration similar to the one proposed by the project MUonE, which plans to perform a very precise measurement of the differential cross-section of the elastic interactions. COMPASS was taking data with a 190 GeV pion beam, stopped in a tungsten beam dump: the muons from these pions decays passed through a setup including a graphite target followed by 10 planes of Si tracker and a BGO crystal electromagnetic calorimeter placed at the end of the tracker. The elastic scattering events were analysed, and compared to expectations from MonteCarlo simulation.

Addressing Scalability with Message Queues: Architecture and Use Cases for DIRAC Interware

The Message Queue (MQ) architecture is an asynchronous communication scheme that provides an attractive solution for certain scenarios in a distributed computing model. The introduction of MQ as an intermediate component in-between the interacting processes allows to decouple the end-points making the system more flexible and providing high scalability and redundancy. DIRAC is a general-purpose interware software for distributed computing systems, which offers a common interface to a number of heterogeneous providers and guarantees transparent and reliable usage of the resources. The DIRAC platform has been adapted by several scientific projects, including High Energy Physics communities like LHCb, the Linear Collider and Belle2. A Message Queue generic interface has been incorporated into the DIRAC framework to help solving the scalability challenges that must be addressed during LHC Run3, starting in 2021. It allows to use the MQ scheme for a message exchange among the DIRAC components or to communicate with third-party services. Within this contribution we describe the integration of MQ systems with DIRAC and several use cases are shown. Message Queues are foreseen to be used in the pilot logging system, and as a backbone of the DIRAC component logging system and monitoring.
