Prolonged Phase Segregation of Mixed-Halide Perovskite Nanocrystals in the Dark

A critical issue hindering the potential applications of semiconductor mixed-halide perovskites is the phase segregation effect, wherein localized regions enriched with one type of halide anions would be formed upon continuous photogeneration of the excited-state charge carriers. These unexpected phases are capable of remixing again in the dark under the entropic driving force, the process of which are now being exclusively studied after mixed-halide perovskites have arrived at the final stage of complete phase segregation. Here we show that after the removal of laser excitation from a solid film of mixed-halide perovskite nanocrystals with partial phase segregation, the iodide- and bromide-rich regions can continuously grow in the dark for a prolonged time period of several minutes. We propose that this dark phase segregation is sustained by the local electric fields associated with the surface-trapped charge carriers, whose slow dissipation out of mixed-halide perovskite nanocrystals causes a delayed occurrence of the reversal phase remixing process.

Direct generation of time-energy-entangled W triphotons in atomic vapor

Sources of entangled multiphotons are not only essential for fundamental tests of quantum foundations, but are also the cornerstone of a variety of optical quantum technologies today. Over past three decades, tremendous efforts have been devoted to creating multiphoton entanglement by multiplexing existing biphoton sources with linear optics and postselections. Different from all previous protocols, here we report, for the first time, the observation of continuous-mode time-energy-entangled W-class triphotons with an unprecedented generation rate directly through the process of spontaneous six-wave mixing (SSWM) in a four-level triple-Lambda atomic vapor cell. Facilitated by electromagnetically induced transparency and coherence control, our SSWM scheme enables versatile narrowband triphoton generation with many intriguing properties including long temporal coherence and controllable waveforms, ideal for implementing long-distance quantum communications, networking, and information processing by interfacing photons and atoms. Most importantly, our work paves a way for the development of a reliable and efficient genuine triphoton source, thus making the research on multiphoton entanglement within easy reach.

In this work, we present HuixiangDou, a technical assistant powered by Large Language Models (LLM). This system is designed to assist algorithm developers by providing insightful responses to questions related to open-source algorithm projects, such as computer vision and deep learning projects from OpenMMLab. We further explore the integration of this assistant into the group chats of instant messaging (IM) tools such as WeChat and Lark. Through several iterative improvements and trials, we have developed a sophisticated technical chat assistant capable of effectively answering users' technical questions without causing message flooding. This paper's contributions include: 1) Designing an algorithm pipeline specifically for group chat scenarios; 2) Verifying the reliable performance of text2vec in task rejection; 3) Identifying three critical requirements for LLMs in technical-assistant-like products, namely scoring ability, In-Context Learning (ICL), and Long Context. We have made the source code, android app and web service available at Github (https://github.com/internlm/huixiangdou), OpenXLab (https://openxlab.org.cn/apps/detail/tpoisonooo/huixiangdou-web) and YouTube (https://youtu.be/ylXrT-Tei-Y) to aid in future research and application. Nonreciprocal spontaneous parametric process

Mediated by the interaction with quantum vacuum fields, a laser field propagating in a nonlinear optical medium can generate new light fields via spontaneous parametric process. Such process is inherent independent of the propagation direction of light and reciprocal thus far, due to the direction-independent field-vacuum interaction. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate a nonreciprocal spontaneous parametric four-wave mixing process in sodium atomic vapors with dispersive nonlinearity and further broadband optical isolation by unidirectionally coupling the probe field to an auxiliary quantum vacuum field in another four-wave mixing process. Thanks to the broad bandwidth of the spontaneous parametric process, in combination with the Doppler and power-induced broadening of atomic energy levels, we achieve optical isolation with a bandwidth larger than 100 GHz for isolation ratio >25 dB. Considering that both spontaneous parametric processes and wave mixing in nonlinear medium have been realized in diverse on-chip photonic platforms, our work paves the way for integrated broadband optical isolations and thus can boost scalability and function of photonic chips.

Non-Hermitian delocalization in a 2D photonic quasicrystal

Quasicrystals show long-range order, but lack translational symmetry. So far, theoretical and experimental studies suggest that both Hermitian and non-Hermitian quasicrystals show localized eigenstates. This localization is due to the fractal structure of the spectrum in the Hermitian case and to the transition to diffusive bands via exceptional points in the non-Hermitian case. Here, we present an experimental study of a dodecagonal (12-fold) photonic quasicrystal based on electromagnetically-induced transparency in a Rb vapor cell. The transition to a quasicrystal is obtained by superposing two honeycomb lattices at 30$^\circ$ with a continuous tuning of their amplitudes. Non-Hermiticity is controlled independently. We study the spatial expansion of a probe wavepacket. In the Hermitian case, the wavepacket expansion is suppressed when the amplitude of the second lattice is increased (quasicrystal localization). We find a new regime, where increasing the non-Hermitian potential in the quasicrystal enhances spatial expansion, with the $C_{12}$ symmetry becoming visible in the wavepacket structure. This real-space expansion is due to a k-space localization on specific quasicrystal modes. Our results show that the non-Hermitian quasicrystal behavior is richer than previously thought. The localization properties of the quasicrystals can be used for beam tailoring in photonics, but are also important in other fields.

XCloud-VIP: Virtual Peak Enables Highly Accelerated NMR Spectroscopy and Faithful Quantitative Measures

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is an important bio-engineering tool to determine the metabolic concentrations, molecule structures and so on. The data acquisition time, however, is very long in multi-dimensional NMR. To accelerate data acquisition, non-uniformly sampling is an effective way but may encounter severe spectral distortions and unfaithful quantitative measures when the acceleration factor is high. By modelling the acquired signal as the superimposed exponentials, we proposed a virtual peak (VIP) approach to selfadapt the prior spectral information, such as the resonance frequency and peak lineshape, and then feed these information into the reconstruction. The proposed method is further implemented with cloud computing to facilitate online, open, and easy access. Results on simulated and experimental data demonstrate that, compared with the low-rank Hankel matrix method, the new approach reconstructs high-fidelity NMR spectra from highly undersampled data and achieves more accurate quantification. The maximum quantitative errors of distances between nuclear pairs and concentrations of metabolites in mixtures have been reduced by 61.1% and 57.7%, respectively.

A plug-and-play synthetic data deep learning for undersampled magnetic resonance image reconstruction

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays an important role in modern medical diagnostic but suffers from prolonged scan time. Current deep learning methods for undersampled MRI reconstruction exhibit good performance in image de-aliasing which can be tailored to the specific k-space undersampling scenario. But it is very troublesome to configure different deep networks when the sampling setting changes. In this work, we propose a deep plug-and-play method for undersampled MRI reconstruction, which effectively adapts to different sampling settings. Specifically, the image de-aliasing prior is first learned by a deep denoiser trained to remove general white Gaussian noise from synthetic data. Then the learned deep denoiser is plugged into an iterative algorithm for image reconstruction. Results on in vivo data demonstrate that the proposed method provides nice and robust accelerated image reconstruction performance under different undersampling patterns and sampling rates, both visually and quantitatively.

Enhancement of Entanglement via Incoherent Collisions

In contrast to the general thought that the collisions are intrinsically dephasing in nature and detrimental to quantum entanglement at room or higher temperatures, here, we show that in the conventional ladder-type three-level electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) configuration, when the probe field intensity is not very weak as compared to the pump field, the entanglement between the bright pump and probe fields can be remarkably enhanced with the increase of the collisional decay rates in a moderate range in an inhomogeneously-broadened atomic system. The strengthened entanglement results from the enhancement of constructive interference and suppression of destructive interference between one-photon and multi-photon transition pathways. Our results clearly indicate that the collisions offer a promising alternative to enhance entanglement at room or higher temperatures despite of the dephasing nature, which provides great convenience for experimental implementation, and opens new prospects and applications in realistic quantum computation and quantum information processing.

CFSum: A Coarse-to-Fine Contribution Network for Multimodal Summarization

Multimodal summarization usually suffers from the problem that the contribution of the visual modality is unclear. Existing multimodal summarization approaches focus on designing the fusion methods of different modalities, while ignoring the adaptive conditions under which visual modalities are useful. Therefore, we propose a novel Coarse-to-Fine contribution network for multimodal Summarization (CFSum) to consider different contributions of images for summarization. First, to eliminate the interference of useless images, we propose a pre-filter module to abandon useless images. Second, to make accurate use of useful images, we propose two levels of visual complement modules, word level and phrase level. Specifically, image contributions are calculated and are adopted to guide the attention of both textual and visual modalities. Experimental results have shown that CFSum significantly outperforms multiple strong baselines on the standard benchmark. Furthermore, the analysis verifies that useful images can even help generate non-visual words which are implicitly represented in the image.

Complete Suppression of Phase Segregation in Mixed-Halide Perovskite Nanocrystals under Periodic Heating

Under continuous light illumination, it is known that localized domains with segregated halide compositions form in semiconducting mixed-halide perovskites, thus severely limiting their optoelectronic applications due to the negative changes in bandgap energies and charge-carrier characteristics. Here we deposit mixed-halide perovskite CsPbBr1.2I1.8 nanocrystals onto an indium tin oxide substrate, whose temperature can be rapidly changed by ~10 degree in a few seconds by applying or removing an external voltage. Such a sudden temperature change induces a temporary transition of CsPbBr1.2I1.8 nanocrystals from the segregated phase to the mixed phase, the latter of which can be permanently maintained when the light illumination is coupled with periodic heating cycles. These findings mark the emergence of a practical solution to the detrimental phase-segregation problem, given that a small temperature modulation is readily available in various fundamental studies and practical devices using mixed-halide perovskites.

Loss-difference-induced localization in a non-Hermitian honeycomb photonic lattice

Non-Hermitian systems with complex-valued energy spectra provide an extraordinary platform for manipulating unconventional dynamics of light. Here, we demonstrate the localization of light in an instantaneously reconfigurable non-Hermitian honeycomb photonic lattice that is established in a coherently-prepared atomic system. One set of the sublattices is optically modulated to introduce the absorptive difference between neighboring lattice sites, where the Dirac points in reciprocal space are extended into dispersionless local flat bands. When these local flat bands are broad enough due to larger loss difference, the incident beam is effectively localized at one set of the lattices with weaker absorption, namely, the commonly seen power exchange between adjacent channels in photonic lattices is effectively prohibited. The current work unlocks a new capability from non-Hermitian two-dimensional photonic lattices and provides an alternative route for engineering tunable local flat bands in photonic structures.

Simultaneous creation of multiple vortex-antivortex pairs in momentum space in photonic lattices

Engineering of the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of light due to interaction with photonic lattices reveals rich physics and motivates potential applications. We report the experimental creation of regularly-distributed quantized vortex arrays in momentum space by probing the honeycomb and hexagonal photonic lattices with a single focused Gaussian beam. For the honeycomb lattice, the vortices are associated with Dirac points and mimic the Berry curvature sources. However, we show that the resulting spatial patterns of vortices are strongly defined by the symmetry of the wave packet evolving in the optical lattice but not by lattice topological properties. Our findings reveal the underlying physics by connecting the symmetry and OAM conversion, and provide a simple and efficient method to create regularly-distributed multiple vortices by unstructured light.

A passive bias-free ultrabroadband optical isolator based on unidirectional self-induced transparency

Achieving a broadband nonreciprocal device without gain and any external bias is very challenging and highly desirable for modern photonic technologies and quantum networks. Here, we theoretically propose a passive and bias-free all-optical isolator for a femtosecond laser pulse by exploiting a new mechanism of unidirectional self-induced transparency, obtained with a nonlinear medium followed by a normal absorbing medium at one side. The transmission contrast between the forward and backward directions can reach ~14.3 dB for a 2π5 fs laser pulse, implying isolation of a signal with an ultrabroad bandwidth of 200 THz. The 20 dB bandwidth is about 57 nm, already comparable with a magneto-optical isolator. This cavity-free optical isolator may pave the way to integrated nonmagnetic isolation of ultrashort laser pulses.

Hierarchy of Genuine Tripartite Non-Gaussian Entanglement

Triple-photon states generated by three-mode spontaneous parametric down-conversion are the paradigm of unconditional non-Gaussian states, essential assets for quantum advantage. How to fully characterize their non-Gaussian entanglement remains however elusive. We propose here a hierarchy of sufficient and necessary conditions for separability of the broad family of spontaneously-generated three-mode non-Gaussian states. We further derive state-of-the-art conditions for genuine tripartite non-Gaussian entanglement, the strongest class of entanglement. We apply our criteria to triple-photon states revealing that they are fully inseparable and genuinely entangled in moments of order 3n. Our results establish a systematic framework for characterizing the entanglement of triple-photon states and thus fostering their application in quantum information protocols.

Angular-dependent Klein tunneling in photonic graphene

The Klein paradox consists in the perfect tunneling of relativistic particles through high potential barriers. As a curious feature of particle physics, it is responsible for the exceptional conductive properties of graphene. It was recently studied in the context of atomic condensates and topological photonics and phononics. While in theory the perfect tunneling holds only for normal incidence, so far the angular dependence of the Klein tunneling and its strong variation with the barrier height were not measured experimentally. In this work, we capitalize on the versatility of atomic vapor cells with paraxial beam propagation and index patterning by electromagnetically-induced transparency. We report the first experimental observation of perfect Klein transmission in a 2D photonic system (photonic graphene) at normal incidence and measure the angular dependence. Counter-intuitively, but in agreement with the Dirac equation, we observe that the decay of the Klein transmission versus angle is suppressed by increasing the barrier height, a key result for the conductivity of graphene and its analogues.

Hierarchy of Nonlinear Entanglement Dynamics for Continuous Variables

The entanglement produced by a bilinear Hamiltonian in continuous variables has been thoroughly studied and widely used. In contrast, the physics of entanglement resulting from nonlinear interaction described by partially degenerate high-order Hamiltonians remains unclear. Here, we derive a hierarchy of sufficient and necessary conditions for the positive-partial-transposition separability of bipartite nonlinear quantum states. The proposed criteria detect the nonpositive-partial-transposition inseparability of higher-order moments of states, which provides a systematic framework for the characterization of this kind of entanglement. Through numerical simulation of cubic and quartic Hamiltonians, we demonstrate the existence and competition of a hierarchy of entanglement witnesses, revealing the mechanism underlying such entanglement. Our results may provide a new direction in continuous variable quantum information processing.

Quantum Squeezing Induced Optical Nonreciprocity

We propose an all-optical approach to achieve optical nonreciprocity on a chip by quantum squeezing one of two coupled resonator modes. By parametric pumping a nonlinear resonator unidirectionally with a classical coherent field, we squeeze the resonator mode in a selective direction due to the phase-matching condition, and induce a chiral photon interaction between two resonators. Based on this chiral interresonator coupling, we achieve an all-optical diode and a three-port quasi-circulator. By applying a second squeezed-vacuum field to the squeezed resonator mode, our nonreciprocal device also works for single-photon pulses. We obtain an isolation ratio of >40 dB for the diode and fidelity of $>98\%$ for the quasi-circulator, and insertion loss of <1 dB for both. We also show that nonreciprocal transmission of strong light can be switched on and off by a relative weak pump light. This achievement implies a nonreciprocal optical transistor. Our protocol opens up a new route to achieve integrable all-optical nonreciprocal devices permitting chip-compatible optical isolation and nonreciporcal quantum information processing.

Towards On-Demand Heralded Single-Photon Sources via Photon Blockade

Spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) in a laser pumped optical nonlinear medium can produce heralded single photons with a high purity but a very low yield. Improving the yield by increasing the pump power in SPDC inevitably reduces the purity due to excitation of multi-photon events. We propose a scheme to overcome this purity-yield trade-off by suppressing multi-photon events in a cavity-enhanced SPDC via the photon blockade effect. By introducing a strong photon-photon interaction into the intracavity medium and increasing the pump power, we can improve the available single-photon yield to larger than $90\%$, while maintaining a high purity of $99\%$, towards on-demand generation of single photons through the SPDC process. Our quasi-on-demand SPDC sources may boost single-photon-based quantum information technology.
