Piecewise quantile autoregressive modeling for nonstationary time series

We develop a new methodology for the fitting of nonstationary time series that exhibit nonlinearity, asymmetry, local persistence and changes in location scale and shape of the underlying distribution. In order to achieve this goal, we perform model selection in the class of piecewise stationary quantile autoregressive processes. The best model is defined in terms of minimizing a minimum description length criterion derived from an asymmetric Laplace likelihood. Its practical minimization is done with the use of genetic algorithms. If the data generating process follows indeed a piecewise quantile autoregression structure, we show that our method is consistent for estimating the break points and the autoregressive parameters. Empirical work suggests that the proposed method performs well in finite samples.

Two-loop renormalization of multiflavor $ϕ^3$ theory in six dimensions and the trace anomaly

We use the background-field method and the heat kernel to obtain all counterterms to two-loop order of conformally-coupled multiflavor $ϕ^3$ theory in six spacetime dimensions, defined in curved spacetime and with spacetime-dependent couplings. We also include spacetime-dependent mass terms for completeness. We use these results to write a general expression for the trace anomaly. With the use of Weyl consistency conditions we are able to show that the strong $a$-theorem for a certain natural candidate quantity $\tilde{a}$ is violated in this theory, and obtain a three-loop expression for the coefficient $a$ of the Euler term in the anomaly.

A challenge to the $a$-theorem in six dimensions

The possibility of a strong $a$-theorem in six dimensions is examined in multi-flavor $ϕ^3$ theory. Contrary to the case in two and four dimensions, we find that in perturbation theory the relevant quantity $\tilde{a}$ increases monotonically along flows away from the trivial fixed point. $\tilde{a}$ is a natural extension of the coefficient $a$ of the Euler term in the trace anomaly, and it arises in any even spacetime dimension from an analysis based on Weyl consistency conditions. We also obtain the anomalous dimensions and beta functions of multi-flavor $ϕ^3$ theory to two loops. Our results suggest that some new intuition about the $a$-theorem is in order.

Feature Selection with Redundancy-complementariness Dispersion

Feature selection has attracted significant attention in data mining and machine learning in the past decades. Many existing feature selection methods eliminate redundancy by measuring pairwise inter-correlation of features, whereas the complementariness of features and higher inter-correlation among more than two features are ignored. In this study, a modification item concerning the complementariness of features is introduced in the evaluation criterion of features. Additionally, in order to identify the interference effect of already-selected False Positives (FPs), the redundancy-complementariness dispersion is also taken into account to adjust the measurement of pairwise inter-correlation of features. To illustrate the effectiveness of proposed method, classification experiments are applied with four frequently used classifiers on ten datasets. Classification results verify the superiority of proposed method compared with five representative feature selection methods.

Could $Z_{b}(10610)$ be a $B^{*}\bar{B}$ molecular state?

Assuming the newly observed structure $Z_{b}(10610)$ as a bottomonium-like molecular state $B^{*}\bar{B}$, we calculate its mass in the framework of QCD sum rules. The numerical result is $10.54\pm0.22 GeV$ for $B^{*}\bar{B}$, which coincide with the mass of $Z_{b}(10610)$. This consolidates the statement made by Belle Collaboration that the $Z_{b}(10610)$ resonance could be a $B^{*}\bar{B}$ molecular state.

Higher Derivative Operators in the Noncommutative Schwinger Model

A study of the noncommutative Schwinger model is presented. It is shown that the Schwinger mass is not modified by the noncommutativity of spacetime till the first nontrivial order in the noncommutative parameter. Instead, a higher derivative kinetic term is dynamically generated by the lowest-order vacuum polarization diagrams. We argue that in the framework of the Seiberg-Witten map the feature of non-unitarity for a field theory with space-time noncommutativity is characterized by the presence of higher derivative kinetic terms. The $θ$-expanded version of a unitary theory will not generate the lowest-order higher derivative quadratic terms.

TeV Scale Lee-Wick Fields out of Large Extra Dimensional Gravity

We study the gravitational corrections to the Maxwell, Dirac and Klein-Gorden theories in the large extra dimension model in which the gravitons propagate in the (4+n)-dimensional bulk, while the gauge and matter fields are confined to the four-dimensional world. The corrections to the two-point Green's functions of the gauge and matter fields from the exchanges of virtual Kaluza-Klein gravitons are calculated in the gauge independent background field method. In the framework of effective field theory, we show that the modified one-loop renormalizable Lagrangian due to quantum gravitational effects contains a TeV scale Lee-Wick partner of every gauge and matter field as extra degrees of freedom in the theory. Thus the large extra dimension model of gravity provides a natural mechanism to the emergence of these exotic particles which were recently used to construct an extension of the Standard Model.

Correction to the Running of Gauge Couplings out of Extra Dimensional Gravity

We study the gravitational correction to the gauge couplings in the extra dimension model where the gravity propagates in the (4+n)-dimensional bulk. We show by explicit calculation in the background field method that the one-loop correction coming from graviton Kaluza-Klein states is nontrivial and tends to make the theory anti-asymptotically free. For the theory characterized with asymptotic freedom, the correction will induce a nontrivial UV-stable fixed point. This may lead to an interesting possibility that the non-abelian gauge coupling constants $g_2$ and $g_3$ in the SM and that of the gravity $g_κ$ unify at the fixed point in the limit of high energy scale.

The Lee-Wick Fields out of Gravity

We study the Maxwell-Einstein theory in the framework of effective field theories. We show that the modified one-loop renormalizable Lagrangian due to quantum gravitational effects contains a Lee-Wick vector field as an extra degree of freedom in the theory. Thus gravity provides a natural mechanism for the emergence of this exotic particle.

$B_{(s)},D_{(s)} \to π, K, η, ρ, K^*, ω, ϕ$ Transition Form Factors and Decay Rates with Extraction of the CKM parameters $|V_{ub}|$, $|V_{cs}|$, $|V_{cd}|$

A systematic calculation for the transition form factors of heavy to light mesons ($B,B_s,D,D_s \to π, K, η, ρ, K^*, ω, ϕ$) is carried out by using light-cone sum rules in the framework of heavy quark effective field theory. The heavy quark symmetry at the leading order of $1/m_Q$ expansion enables us to reduce the independent wave functions and establish interesting relations among form factors. Some relations hold for the whole region of momentum transfer. The meson distribution amplitudes up to twist-4 including the contributions from higher conformal spin partial waves and light meson mass corrections are considered. The CKM matrix elements $|V_{ub}|$, $|V_{cs}|$ and $|V_{cd}|$ are extracted from some relatively well-measured decay channels. A detailed prediction for the branching ratios of heavy to light meson decays is then presented. The resulting predictions for the semileptonic and radiative decay rates of heavy to light mesons ($B,B_s,D,D_s \to π, K, η, ρ, K^*, ω, ϕ$) are found to be compatible with the current experimental data and can be tested by more precise experiments at B-factory, LHCb, BEPCII and CLEOc.

Exploring Final State Hadron Structure and SU(3) Flavor Symmetry Breaking Effects in D->PP and D->PV Decays

The nonleptonic two body decays $D\to PP$ and $D\to PV$ are investigated based on the diagrammatic decomposition in a generalized factorization formalism. It is shown that to fit the experimental data, the SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking effects of the coefficients $a_i$s should be considered in $D\to PP$ decay modes. In $D\to PV$ decays, the final state hadron structure due to the pseudoscalar and vector mesons has more important effects on the coefficients $a_i$s than the SU(3) symmetry breaking effects. It is found that the nonfactorizable contributions as well as that of the exchange and annihilation diagrams are significant in these decays.

Proton incorporations and superconductivity in a cobalt oxyhydrate

We report the evidence of proton incorporations in a newly-discovered cobalt oxyhydrate superconductor. During the hydration process for Na$_{0.32}$CoO$_{2}$ by the direct reaction with water liquid, it was shown that substantial NaOH was gradually liberated, indicating that H$^{+}$ is incorporated into the hydrated compound. Combined with the thermogravimetric analysis, the chemical composition of the typical sample is Na$_{0.22}$H$_{0.1}$CoO$_{2}\cdot 0.85$H$_{2}$O, which shows bulk superconductivity at 4.4 K.
